Nice quick video. I would have personally emphasized how important the timing belt maintenance service is. That is easily a $1400 job here in Wisconsin.
@@davefuller9345 Man I would love to do it myself because I love learning a new skill and challenging myself but I have kids all five and under. Then I have to take two days off of work and then do it myself and learn it myself and it’s just more hassle than it’s worth reward at this point you know? It’s also an intimidating job for me because I don’t know much about engine timing I don’t want to mess anything up
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 Seriously? I mean, I do all my own oil and oil filter changes, I’ve done a couple water pumps (on a Impala 3800), do all my own brakes/rotors/pads, I’ve done Cv axles and wheels bearings on my 4Runner… if I can do those things, is this comparable? More or less difficult? Thanks!
u totally forgot about the test drive portion!! testing the transfer case and shifting that lever from high to neutral to low range along with running that transmission thru each gear manually since that transmission does feel a bit clumsy when shifting... might also want to get her up to highway speeds to make sure she drives straight and true and doesn't wobble or hop around... I also have a personal question for you... I'm looking at a 0-5 gx 470 and was wondering how to install and remove the driver's side fender flare type piece there.. there was a little bit of a bang-up and was really hoping that I can save the piece and just install it properly maybe it popped out or something like that!! please advise thanks soo much!! God bless, -peter
No doubt, I was at work that day so we couldn’t take off and drive it but yes definitely test them all. I have a vid on the center differential as well. Let me see if I can tell on some of mine if that piece can be clipped in easily. Most of the time yes it can. MIGHT need a body shop to do it right but let me check those flares
Save yourself some money by watching my video on the transfer case actuator if it’s bad. The video was mostly for replacing the O-ring seal (which leaks on most older GXs) but it basically showed how easy it is to yank out and put back in.
Definitely check rear air suspension, just converted my GX's rear bags to coils, after paying someone to replace the bags, and still having issues with the bags not receiving air. It rides better with springs than when the air suspension was working.
@@DJV94022 You're probably right about that! However, what I meant is that for the 03 to 09 models, I believe they stopped doing the complimentary replacement for cracked dashes. I had a private dealer trying to tell me otherwise to get me to buy one.
Good to know about that center dif. I was looking at a 05 GX470 and tested that center dif it didnt work I told the guy he needed to knock about 2k off his asking price
Thanks for this. I'm gong to look at a 2005 GX470 with 55000 miles. I'll be bringing my coveralls to crawl underneath and look for leaks, rust etc. Still have my 2000 Xterra I bought new and have 432000 miles on it and still going strong. V6 engine four wheel drive five speed manual transmission.
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 Saw it, and thanks for that one too. I'm still going to take it to my local guy to once over. I want to know why it's a 2005 with only 55k miles on it.
@@mickcary8351 hook that scanner in and make sure it’s the original display, could have been swapped. Or shoot me the VIN and I’ll run the miles on an autocheck. Some of these things just never got driven, that low of miles is enough to keep everything lubed but make sure it’s all good to go for sure
@@crutchfieldautomotive7936 VIN JTJBT20X850090477 And thanks for any help/advice. I'm driving my Xterra down to look at it. The guy wanted to see a 430k Xterra still running.
@@mickcary8351miles are right. One owner, no accidents. Checked at a Lexus dealer on 11/30/20. From what I can see, it’s worth all the money if you know what I mean. I would be all over it if it looks the way it sounds by the reports.
I hit the center differential button by mistake and drove it for a day. I noticed when I backed up, the steering felt stiff. It operated fine on normal roads. I drove for a day to realize I had to disengage the center differential. Did I damage my vehicle? It was neither in low or high. Normal drive mode with center differential engaged.
I’m looking at a gx and was told at cold start it make a noise for a few minutes then goes away , guessing that’s a header leak ? You think it’s worth the fix for purchasing around 10k ??
