@@MiguelReyes-jg1de sloazz6 has an 800whp build on a stock trans with a couple gears out of a gen 2, they're really stout cars, if this kid doesn't have a second gear it's because he shifted way too fast and hard into 2nd too many times
I had an '06 MS6-GT for about 7 years and 45k miles. They are definitely finicky cars, and a bit Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde to drive, particularly the heavy, prankster clutch. BUT they are unique and uncommon, and also look great while not being super heavy. I never had to replace the turbo on mine, and it worked up until the day I traded it in. But it did have the oil overrun issue that Mazda officially recognized. I never fixed that on mine, and it seemed to "grow" out of it around 9Xk miles. Problems mine had: Window regulators ($300 per door, and still didn't work right) Window switches going out VVT 5th gear broke a bit, had to shift slowly into that gear to avoid grinding oil-into-turbo overflow and burn-off (the blue exhaust smoke after long idles) Majorly fading/yellowing/scarring headlight lenses Keyless entry went out (happens to ALL of these cars, not worth fixing) The MS6 is a car that is best garaged and temp controlled in all types of weather because summer will beat the ever-loving tar out of the interior plastics and fitments. All told, it's like a poor man's/family man's M5 of sorts. It corners very flat and tight, and once the turbo is online, it pulls hard. But you do have to keep ahead of this car's quirks. As a family sports sedan it's reliable enough that your SO won't rip your head off, though. The MS6 has AWD for inclement weather, room for 2 kids in back, enough trunk space, seat heaters for the wife, and a decent amount of tech goodies given its age, and the enthusiast-approved 6-speed manual trans-only drive train. It's also not bad on gas. My personal best was ~26 highway. Around town with a light foot 20-21 was my norm. And it remains the highest-HP factory car Mazda has ever produced before or since, if not the one with the most TQ.
I've been playing with the idea of a speed 6. The last high maintenance car I had was a 93 3000gt with 280 horse at the wheels.. just not sure if it's reliable enough to get but I also want something I can work on with my kiddo. But this video was as informative as any professional video I've watched. Well done.
The trans in the speeds are actually VERY stout.... the synchros go out for 2 reasons... ppl that cant drive and ppl who dont change the trans fluid or use the improper fluid... if you get one properly taken care of they hold any amount of power thrown at them without issue
The MS6 can be hard to drive, though, speaking from experience. In stop-n-go traffic it's an absolute hassle of a car: heavy clutch and a lot of peddle modulation. Once there's space to run, it's great, but in close quarters it gets angry. The other key to the drive train staying in good shape is the diff service. That's a solid $450 and several hours labor per 50-60k miles.
Well things I know are: Timing chains fail if you fail to hear them. You can generally hear it on cold start from the right hand side of the engine bay sitting inside. If you get your timing chain done, replace your VVT Actuator as those fail as well. Engine mounts are pretty standard Same goes for rear diff mounts, there are 2. Transfer leaks are for free, And front control arms are most likely split as most people neglect them. Note: there are 3 control arms per side (radius arm, lower control arm, and a upper control arm next to the front springs.
Fuck yeah just got mine yesterday, 170k KMs, one mature owner with full service history. My accessport is on the way, HPFP & intake+downpipe next. Love it to death already!
Dude seriously? I really want a speed6 but was pretty bummed cause I thought I couldn’t get one cause of its turbo, but apparently not? How’d you find out it’s P plate legal here? (From AUS and still on my Ps)
Having been in the Mazda scene a bit and seeing other Mazda enthusiasts' rides, this is kinda the norm. But it's still a step upward in upkeep from the 809s-90s Honda Civic crowd.
I just had a Mazda 6 2.0 141hk It was an amazing car REALLY! i drove it so slow so it could get up to temp the good when and then i drove it hard everyday... crazy driven and even gettin it sideways... (no i know i didnt ''Drift'')... but overall its really reliable and lots of space at backseats...
Great vid broo mine is an '06 with keyless entry and u forgot about the Rear-Diffs problems in the video.. that's the most annoying problem on this car after the HPFP because the cars isn't AWD no more and only spins from 1st to 3rd gear...
crazy how a SPEED6 is the same price as a regular mazda 3. Great bang for your buck if you ask me.. I got a 3 just because I like the look better but it's no where near as fast as a speed6
AREJAY136 That's a nice idea! Do you happen to know how much that would cost and which company your friend "hired" to do that? I'm currently owning a Volkswagen Polo built in 2001 which is very slow and looks kinda weird. Must be amazing to drive a speed6 as your first car 👌
This wasn't my first car its probably close to my 8th actually haha! let me see if i can get in contact with my friend to see how much it was and who he went through!
Ahah, fuck ya man. I love that Colorado Mazda sweatshirt 🤙🤘, good video too. I love my speed6, I got it about a year and a half ago, and keep upgrading it. When it's paid off, I plan on a full build, cause there aren't a lot of high hp speed 6 out there. I hope you still got yours too 🤘
Very good info. Can a bad axel damage your transmission? Im having problems with the automatic transmission on my mazda 6. The damn thing works perfect until the AT light goes on, but if I restart the car, the light goes off and the car works perfect again for a couple of days.
Why does everyone forget about the 2005 speed 6's lol. Legit every aftermarket website completely ignores them. Just check the wiki, they started making em in 2005 lol.
My first one was a 2005. Called a MPS over here in Northern Ireland, it put a connecting rod through the block, then I bought a low miler that was registered 2007, that one blew the tubo and transmission. Great cars to drive when alls well and nice looking car to if you have a clean one, but those engines are just too soft. I couldn't trust one again.
I have always wanted one I have it's ancient ancestor as my daily for 19 years now. Check the rear diff mounts too they break easy but upgrade mounts are out there.
Trans are very strong in these cars, but like any car is how you treat them and also wear and tear. Compared to Subarus and other cars like ours they are pretty reliable.
Yeah I should have clarified and done a little more research on this topic I was going more off of my personal stuff and what I've heard so apologies on that one!
I was gonna go bnr but the website i went through didnt have any in stock. most turbos are shipped from the usa for so it takes weeks or months to get parts. btw im from Australia
I've had my ms6 for 6 months now with a cold air intake and straight pipe and it's been running perfectly fine, do you think I need to get a high pressure fuel pump and/or access port or should I be fine?
Id always suggest that. HPFP is definitely the first thing you should do. If your going cat-less DP then yes for sure and you'll need a tune if you have that too!
I have (had) a speed 6. threw a rod through the block of the stock engine 2000 miles after i got the car. Built it with a new block for 650whp and spun a bearing 8k miles in. Fuck the platform.
06 speed 6 pearl white headache! and fun! under slightly heavy boost it shakes bad and if I stay in it a sec or two longer I run the p301 code cylinder misfire. I have a (supposedly) light aftermarket flywheel, cobe tuning, cai, cpe hpfp, and other goodies, I’m stumped on this car with this latest issue. Any suggestions? O and great video ,just subbed
While there are some good suggestions. There are some things wrong with this video. The transmission is actually very strong. Also these cars require regular oil maintenance. They aren’t a corolla. Keep the oil changes regular and it will be solid as fuck. I’m at 200,000km and the engine still has perfect compression on 26psi.
I had a speed6 with just a few basic bolt-on items and the differential went out after 28k miles... I loved the car but I couldn’t afford the maintenance at the time 😢
I’m looking at buying a MS6 with 97k miles for $6,000 what do you think about that? It’s got some rocket rust near the rear tires, but comes with full turbo back exhaust and cobb accessport.
AREJAY136 I’m really worried about it financially. I can get a regular Mazda 6 GT for $4k or under and I’d have some cash to spare if anything breaks. You think the S6 would be a money pit for me? Since I’d have to worry about turbo/awd components/mounts.
to be honest i have spent a good amount of money on up keep and fixing parts. but if you treat her nice it could be worse! but every car is different. I did also get a brand new engine from the dealership as well
AREJAY136 hey bro I need some of your help. Im trying to find a stage 2 clutch thats includes flywheel. I got $500. I found some they are ACT amd it cost $850. Idk if you can give me a hand please.
AREJAY136 im looking for a clutch stage 2 thats includes flywheel like i said I got $500. Idk if you can find one and send me the link because I can’t find one. There are some but they cost $850 or more. Sorry if its too much to ask
I got a 2005 Mazda 6 stock making loud noise while driving Quiet at idle What could be the problem? No vibration no burning no black smoke and still decent gas mileage Is possibly the catalytic converter or motor mount Thanx in advance
Chris Gordon could be bad cats could be loose exhaust bolts would be my guess. can’t hurt to delete the cat or get a high flow. But I didn’t tell you that 🤫
First off thank you!!! Second YES this car is what made me go cray about cars! I beg anyone to make this their first car! 6 speed manual turbo under 10k AWD perfect for a first car!
these cars are reliable when adults +25 drive them! but you teenagers blow them up and give them a bad reputation! stick to WRX/STI! Speed6 is adult’s toy
Lol'd at all the broken features on your car. But hey, your a teen with most likely a first car. My far car(98 Integra) had so many broken features on that thing
I'm pretty confident it should work, an FM transmitter just plugs into a cigarette lighter and outputs an FM signal of your choosing, all you have to do is tune your radio to the channel you chose and connect to the transmitter via Bluetooth.
I know new engine swaps can be around 6k (thats what i paid for mine) and I've been quoted 1.5k-2k for a used tranny also depends if you do it yourself as well
Heres some do's and dont's 1 dont buy one they make to much power for their design 2 dont buy one their expensive cars to build 3 if you didnt listen to 1 and 2 and bought one watch out for the rear diff mount bolts snapped off it's a bitch of a job and your gonna throw tools across the shop 4 watch for broken motor mounts 5 make sure the garbage aod alternator pulley is good cause it's also a bitch to get out and will also result in throwing of tools and possibly punching the car and 6 even if all that is good it's still gonna break real soon sell it now while you can and buy something else
This video was a tad bit more negative towards the car! It's a great platform Ill make some more videos its was more of a look out video but i'll be more than happy to make a different one thats a little more about the positive!
