When people say “what about balance, and weak spots” imagine how people who play tanks with only Solid AP feel lol… Always seem to forget those exist huh? Also ez solution to balance: Make fragments actually ricochet inside the tank. Metal doesn’t fly and disappear like it currently does inside tanks in WT, it bounces.
True, I don’t think this mechanic should be changed without first making fragments ricochet inside of the crew compartment an actual mechanic first. This would buff solid shot and APHE still still very effective.
Solid shots tend to have way more pen than APHEs. For example comet or challenger can easily pen the angled tiger 1, but imagine copula is no longer a weakspot. Short 75mm on Shermans will be nerfed to the ground, tiger 1s and a lot of Soviet tanks will laugh at jumbo.
@@alexmurphy6574 Look at all the AP shells that used to penetrate more and got nerfed and pen less than APHE. Aka M82 vs T33, and Sherman 76mm for example… So, might aswelll give APHE to all. AP doesn’t do realistic damage anyways. Too little in a lot of cases.
@@BARelement stock AP on usa tanks are Trash, only reason thay exist are to make u suffer the stock grind. But i think APs on decent guns have satisfactory damage. Sherman firefly or SA50 are examples of AP with good damage. Centurions or USA t34 all have very good AP. I know that warthunder isn't exacly consistent but these APs can kill with one or two shot.
I’ve heard that gaijin nerfed the angled pen and post pen damage because it was overperforming several years ago. That and hesh I find are the least accurately modelled in game 😢
Lots of ammo has been through the wringer over the years, it's mostly due to how tanks first launched. I do know we all want consistency in game though.
I’m worried about balance. You often have to rely on cupola shots in uptiers. Also how about modeling fragments ricocheting inside of the tank after penetration? Wouldn’t APHE end up being almost exactly the same as it is currently? Also wouldn’t this indirectly buff solid shot as well? I don’t think this mechanic should be changed without implementing fragment ricochet inside of the crew compartment.
@@snugglecity3500 With the current br compression if you come across some tanks frontally while being in a certain tank yourself you can't do anything else.
Interesting thing about how things used to be in War Thunder is that solid shot AP generally used to have more pain than APHE but this was lost when they introduced the universal penetrator calculator. Outside of a special few guns, solid shot generally tends to have less pen than the APHE it's noticeable with the American Guns like the 75 and 90 Also interesting thing I heard is that the APHE for a lot of the Swedish vehicles at least their indigenous vehicles have APHE modeled similar to what you're suggesting however even if that's the case it hasn't made much of a difference in my experience.
