Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa was identified by authorities Tuesday as the gunman who opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store in Colorado, killing 10 people, including a Boulder police officer. #CNN #News
So both this guy and the Nashville bombing guy were on the FBI watch list and yet they still did what they wanted. I'm thinking this "watch list" needs to be revamped.

if he had been in Germany or Australia he and the community would have been protected from himself. People _can_ be paranoid and not responsible for what they are doing. It is possible that he is another of the victims. 1) universal healthcare and access to mental healthcare for mentally ill persons (incl. medication if he really was paranoid. And that is free at the point of delivery, and if he had behaved erratically, they "system" would have taken notice, they would have gotten him to a doctor, talked to his family that he needs to take his meds etc. 2) it is much harder to get your hand on guns and even more so on semi automatics. And the ammunition for them. I am sure it is possible if you hold contacts to criminal elements, but hard. Needs planning, and it costs much more. That is why that kind of crime does not happen if people lose their shit there. So an attack would be with a a knife at the max. It is not even happening with hunting rifles. _Some_ people do have them (most of the time for huning, some collect, rarely for sports), but they are not fetishized. And if a burglar gets into a home, it is not very likely he could steal a firarm, chances are low there would be any. And you cannot "rapid fire" riffles - 6:30. No rapid fire necessary if you go after foxes or deer. Can you imagine the same scenario with a knife ? Or unarmed and he is screaming and behaving erratically ? People have a chance to run away and if they take heart they can disarm him, certainly if 2 or 3 band together. That is very hard if he has a firearm (but it does help if he does not have _rounds_ of ammo), at least ARMED police has a better chance if he would be "only" armed with a hunting riffle. And civilians disarming him would be if he has a semi automatic. They had attacks with car, one in Germany, Austria, Canada. ONE. or TWO (Germany has 83 million people the U.S. has 330 millions. U.K., Italy and France have over 60 millions. They do have hunters. But not the _proportional_ number of mass shootings with firearms (or any other mass attacks), it is not even close. That would be a one in 10 -20 year event. But if the crime is inspired by wounded ego it is much less likely to be an "attractive" mode of attack whether the attacker knows what he is doing or not. Firing a semi-automatic gives the illusion of strength. If an attacker, whether he/she is of clear mind or not crashes intentionally into a crowd, or try, to they are going to to be subject to an accident. That is not as attractive, it just isn't.

I get your point, but they can't put a man who did nothing yet in jail just like that :/ the problem is in America it's too easy to get a gun ... very sad
@@James-ku5rh True but they could have stopped him from getting access to Guns. You can't own a firearm if you are mentally ill, on a FBI watchlist, and previously convicted on Assault charges. all on which should not have passed the Background check, but it did, because laws and programs aren't properly enforced. It's not even clear yet if he purchased the Rifle legally.
Too easy to get a gun and too difficult to access mental health services. One discussion cannot be had without the other. This man was likely a paranoid schizophrenic. It's difficult to commit an adult for any length of time, and there are far too few beds reserved for patients in the psych wards in regular hospitals. Rather than reform state mental institutions and bring them up to standards, a majority were closed in the 70-80s. Now, too many seriously mentally ill are homeless and roaming the streets (approx. 140k) or incarcerated or on parole (500k+). The pendulum has swung too far the other way. There is a mental health care crisis in the US and we're seeing some of it in these mass shootings. I wish this was a priority in the US. If interested look up DJ Jaffe and his interviews - mental health advocate.
You can not take away people's rights for what you think they might do. Everyone has the right to defend themselves. I suggest people quit thinking that taking rights away is the answer. We should be adding rights back to our lives. Stop trying to control others by force and start uplifting people instead. It won't stop every senseless act , but nothing will except slavery or imprisonment, which hopefully none of you want.
@@James-ku5rh Yes you can in most states now if you declare a family member legally incapable then they can't get a gun without your permission. its one of the only laws that actually useful in background check. Spread the word man.

Thanks to Covid and isolation it feels as though every country in the world is suffering from mental health problems. After the 1st 3 months of lockdown it felt as though seeing people collect garbage was an exciting occasion. Proof there was still life out there. As the death count went up and up it made me bury my head in a pillow and scream. But, never had the urge to murder anyone. Too many people were dying already. It's sad but how does mental health problems get solved Internationally? My heartfelt sympathies to those in pain and sorrow.

To be honest as a Coloradoan. With how things have been over the last decade. You have to keep your head on a swivel at a store. Same here - high school was a never ending Hell. Constantly bullied, by everyone. I had a friend for 6 months until he realised he should be bullying me, after that I was alone. During recess and lunch, I hid in the school library so nobody would find me. When I finished school, I was shy, quiet, reserved, friendless and didn’t want to be around other people. Why do we pass out deadly weapons like it's candy? I would question the mental health of any person attempting to purchase automatic weapons, whose only purpose is to rapidly kill large numbers of people. Who needs this???????
@@amywalker7515 Nobody's just "passing out guns". There are relevant first-hand accounts from leftist journalists who were under the same impression and quickly discovered how rigorous the process actually is. As well, automatic weapons are not sold to the general public; you are mixing them up with semi-automatics like AR-15s aka single-shot, not spray-action, which btw are also not assault weapons (a made-up term with no consistent definition). I am not American but this much I do know so please educate yourself better on the issue. Your comment betrays a complete lack of knowledge on the subject.

The last terrorist attack on London Bridge was with a knife. I think he unfortunately killed 3 people. but then 3 civilians took him down. They had rushed to a nearby restaurant and gotten a fire extinguisher, the tusk of a narwhale, and one used his bare hands. Police was fast on the scene, but then they had him already on the ground, injured. That would have been impossible if he had had an AR 15. And those semi-automatics are hard to come by in the U.K. That was meant as terrorist attack, and as suicide attack, so there went some "sober" planning into it. Still that terrorist used a knife. a firearm was not an option, or he would have gotten one, and he would have killed many more. If that attacker in Boulder was paranoid - if that is not just a deflection of the family - then he would have had a hard time to be savvy and resourceful about getting a gun - if that would be hard, and you had to have contacts to hardened criminals. It would be also much more EXPENSIVE. (the AR is reliable and low cost, that is why it is popular). In a culture where civilians do not have semi automatic weapons, it is also hard to hide such a weapon. For those who want to sell it, or the owners.
If a former romantic partner loses it and attacks the wife, or if a person is genuinely mentally ill a knife attack is something that can happen (because they are much easier to get). But that does not mean the attackers are _effective._ Luckily. A person trained to use a knife is still dangerous (although they cannot pull of a _mass_ killing). On the other hand if they "just" lost it, the attack will not be carried out killer style and that increases the chances that the victims can survive and bystanders have a chance to hinder and overwhelm the attacker.
Be careful. You would be grilled for that comment by those liberals who thought keeping killers in jail or hospital is a good idea, just like defunding police would do good to policing.
