we do love outsiders to come see us WE LOVE OUR LAND AND OUR FREEDOM !!! we'r big and fun and no matter what our government is doing that is not how the rest of us roll thanks for your love back
Hi, from Arkansas, USA, I thoroughly enjoyed your USA series and you guys are entitled to have your own opinions, so you don’t have to explain them!!! That’s why I love this channel and others like yours because I get a different perspective on things I sometimes take for granted!!! Keep up the amazing videos, much love!!!
I grew up in Los Angeles and drove there for 11 years before moving up to Northern California. I hated L.A. drivers then and I still break out into a cold sweat whenever I visit and have to drive there (although SF Bay Area drivers have gotten pretty bad too). As for changing lanes without signalling, if you signal a lane change what you're doing is telling the people around you to speed up and pass you because they don't want yet ANOTHER person in front of them because it might slow them down by a precious 30 seconds or so. But if you just sneak into a lane quickly, maybe even as you're turning on your signal, you've tricked them into letting you into THEIR lane before they know what has happened. Not that I would EVER do that, I'm just commenting for a friend....
I absolutely love your sarcasm!!! As an American, I will try to explain to my neighbors... He is over exagerating so much it is sarcastic! Just listen to everything he says a hint of sarcasm... you will laugh!! I promise... he is hilarious!!
Be happy!! Cheers to Emma re:editing. Not that we don’t think Alex is wonderful as well! No hard feelings. Safe, happy travels and continue to be who you are!
I always thought Americans don’t get irony more than sarcasm, until I saw Curb your Enthusiasm acted and written by Larry David who also wrote Seinfeld, great American comedy’s imo!
I wonder if those who seemed not to understand your sarcasm were being sarcastic themselves. I hope they didn’t think Walt Disney made the rocks in the 50s. Come back and visit the East. The Adirondack Park in NY is bigger than the three largest national parks combined. Finally. Give the UK some credit for diversity. The Lake Country is unlike London which is unlike the Scottish highlands which doesn’t have the Giants Causeway like N. Ireland. Keep traveling and taking us along. Thanks.
Great series . I’ve been in 47 of the 50 states and you have shown many things I’ve never seen. Come visit the Midwest on a future trip. And now hot dogs 101: sausages are made from grinding fine cuts of meat and adding spices. Hotdogs are made from lips and assholes. That is why you have to cook them to a cinder on an open fire
Sarcasm is an art form. When someone doesn’t catch it, I have more fun. I just keep poking that nerve in more and more ridiculous ways. They catch on eventually. Edit: “sarcasm is a body’s natural defense against stupid” is a valid world view.
YES, California has stupid crazy drivers. California has a lot of road rage. Watching you guys is so fun, you guys make me smile. I hope you guys Live Happily ever after and have lots of kids and youtube it.
Americans in general do not understand sarcasm because Americans are used to say what they mean. Brits are repressed, so they find an outlet in sarcasm.
@bobbybigboyyes "The rest of us are always getting in trouble for saying EXACTLY what we mean." -- Good to hear that. Saying what one means may not be good for one's career, but it is good for mental health.
The US is a big country, and I think things like sarcasm are regional. I live in the Midwest, near a rustbelt city (Detroit) and sarcasm is a common form of humor. My younger son went to college in South Carolina and noticed how they didn't get his sarcastic humor there.
These are vastly overblown stereotypes of Americans and culture. Unfortunately the more I watch you guys the more it seems that these videos and your presentations are rather one dimensional ( I’m disappointed to say )
Sarcasm isn’t universal in the USA, but there are lots of sarcastic people. Those of us who grew up with Monty Python probably appreciate it a little bit more. As far as LA traffic goes, most Americans are terrified to drive in LA. P.S. everyone who loves good food should hate all McDonald’s and probably most fast food.
there's a big difference between hot dog sausage and bratwurst just check it out look it up What's the difference between hot dogs and bratwurst? Most commonly, hot dogs are made with pork, beef, or chicken. Bratwurst is made with pork, beef, or veal and the meat is typically fresher and more pure. ... Hot dogs are emulsified into a paste, making them smoother. Brats are less finely grounded, giving them a coarser texture and heavier quality.and we have breakfast sausage that's made just from pork
In the USA sarcasm is typically accompanied by a small facial smirk, or a change in the way you speak. If you don't do those things people sometimes can think you are serious. You clearly look like you are serious which is why I think the people didn't detect your sarcasm. I can tell you that where I am from in the USA everyone is as sarcastic as they come. I mean sarcastic to the point of being annoying, irritating, and insulting. People are sometimes sarcastic to be humorous, but not as much anymore. Sarcasm has become the ultimate way to show your displeasure or anger with someone. Which brings me to another one of your points. The drivers in LA are not bad. They are unapologetically angry, and they will do things simply because they don't care what happens. There is so much traffic in Los Angeles and people have been forced to sit in long drives to and from work. They are pissed off and want to cause an accident.
English sarcasm/humor and American humor is quite different. English people also love to take the piss out of America and Americans. While sometimes it can be funny it also can come off as whingeing and crass. Theres culture differences where it's ok to be talked about but wording thing can sound very offensive if not careful. Example that bagel was bloody disgusting how do Americans eat this rank bread? *insert gag noise* Then a person could say bagels not fond or keen on them. I personally find them gross but that's my opinion. Theres a difference between how it comes across.
A little late but... I believe those that don't understand sarcasm are ALWAYS the ones that believe they are the funniest people they know. When they tell me so I politely smile, turn, roll my eyes and walk away.
McGriddles are horrible. And the people who don’t get British sarcasm don’t get America sarcasm either. A lot of these people also take everything literally. Having worked with Brits for a few years now I realized we use the language differently and there’s whole “I understand but I don’t understand” weirdness. I felt like I was learning a different language when I started working with my British team. You should do a road trip in the South. That’s another world of its own. Atlanta and South Florida drivers are the worst... not as bad as Los Angles.
@@afcgeo882 Sadly, the gain is a win for the "me first" mentality. I guess when someone spends an hour or more a day commuting, they see the lane changer only as someone who might shave a couple seconds off their fastest commute time. To quote Pink Floyd's "Money" - Share it fairly, but don't take a slice of my pie.
Here in my part of Canada, we're seeing more and more roundabouts. Nobody, or very few, realize that you're supposed to signal when using them. Talk about frustrating.
Americans always misunderstand me, they take everything SO literally! LOL Your sense of humor and Brit sarcasm is why I love watching your vlogs. LOL Feels far more relatable than most do. Keep up the great work beans :D
You HATE something about America?? Let me guess - the hotdogs? You can only get "good" hotdogs at Hockey games, or the State Fair. The rest of them are crap. Don't worry, Alex - the non pc-group among us, does understand you. And agreed - the drivers here are horrid. Would you ever consider coming to Alaska? I'd just like to tell you both, I love your channel. You seem so genuine, and funny/witty. So thank you, for posting your videos~!
Thanks so much! We would LOVE to come to Alaska! The only obstacle is the cost, as usual. So it may not be soon but I'm certain we will make it there in the future.
I married an American and I'm Canadian. We get the sarcasm and banter. We do it ourselves however it took my husband a longggggg time until he finally got it. 😐 Sooo we just started laughing at him not getting it. 🙄 You're Sarcasm is greatly appreciated.NOT looking at the man sitting beside me or I'll laugh.
South Africa has the most AMAZING sausages, Alex. Proper boerewors (literally famer's sausage). A combination of either beef, lamb, venison and pork... Different spices = different flavours.
I agree, Michelle. I'm from the west coast. I'm not sure why it bugs me a little when people from the US claim the name "American". We all are, from Canada down through Mexico to the tip of South America. Still, I guess it's better than saying you're a United Station.
I'm born and raised in the US. I'm from originally from the East Coast and was raised with sarcasm. I moved to San DIego, and constantly had to apologize for my humor. I bonded with my English co-worker, and now only try to watch English shows, LOVE the Brits humor. and love how you take a "piss" out of each other. I also love the Graham Norton Show. Please know that not everybody in the States have zero sense of humor.f
I hear it over and over from every different Brit who visits the US. "Americans don't get sarcasm." We do, it's just that Americans consider sarcasm - especially repeated constant sarcasm - as just a cowardly way of being passive-aggressive
Having been to England at least a dozen times (I am from the USA, wife is from the Midlands, we live in the USA) I find it absolutely hilarious when walking on the pavement (sidewalk) in England and as people walk towards us I say "Wazzup or How Goes It or How's it going". They generally look at me like I have 2 heads. lol But, you are correct, people in the USA will almost always say hello and of course when they hear your English accent be prepared for a million questions, lol. If I tried to strike up a conversation in England I would say most that live in large cities, might give a stare then walk away. Where as most people in a small village or in the countryside would gladly have a conversation.
I love these guys. They made me laugh so freaking hard.!! But I thought it was kind of funny to sit and listen to Alex, who is a born Brit , talk About what he loves and hates about the US, He is right the US are extremely sarcastic, but so is Emma that is an American trait , And that’s what makes her fun , But she calls herself a brit But really truly she’s an American US Citizen. she’s extremely sarcastic the very thing that Alex Hates about the US lol Keep it coming guys lol !!
Hello from Wyoming, USA! I lived in Ipswich and Woodbridge for 4 years. I would love to come back. I would really love some Fish and Chips!!! You’ve brought back some wonderful memories! Thank you! Keep up the great videos!
Emma and Alex, the people who don't understand your dislike for Mc-Ds (really crap), they were raised on it, and beanie-weenies, and canned Mc-n-cheese, and boxed cereals, Oh! Annnd, the notorious , infamous "Hot-Dog", (usually cheap); uuuh! Annnd, who could forget the "Grilled Cheese Sandwich"; they have no clue what good food is, when you say you don't like Mc-Ds or (God forbid) Hot-Dogs, they are aghast, like you don't like American food; trust me, that's junk, that's not American food, you didn't try Shrimp creole, or et tu fe in south Louisiana or Bar-be-Que in Texas or the Carolinas, or clam chowder in bloody New England, so don't listen to the cretonne and barbarians!!!
Do a camper van trip thru the Martitme provinces of Canada (east coast). Mostly Nova Scotia (Cabot Trail, Lighthouse Route along the coast, all the fortresses, etc) - but also the other provinces as well.
Never had the McGriddle thing. Next time, get a Sausage McMuffin. Sausage patty, fried egg, cheese between two English muffins (I think you call them crumpets). A Santa Barbara McDonald's owner wanted a way to simulate Eggs Benedict as fast food. Not the result, but still nice.
I found you guys by accident. You and your videos are great. But also I love hearing your British accents. I and my wife used to travel (and camp)all over on our sidecar rig. About 35 years ago we met Pam and Trev at a National Sidecar Rally. They were officers in your sidecar club, and they came over to attend a Rally over here. My wife and I loved their sense of humor and their accents. We've been friends ever since. We have visited back and forth since. You guy's remind me of the good old days, and our friends. AL
First, I agree that McDonald’s is gross, especially the McGriddles. Vile. However, and this is an issue I have with young Americans as well, you cannot use the word “literally” when you’re exaggerating or speaking figuratively and expect non millennials to understand. Huge pet peeve of mine.
My own driving experience across the states is similar. LA is crazed! Other states have a quite courteous driving habits. True in other countries as well, however. Ireland is great, Rome is frightening... interesting to think whether this says anything important (once you park) about the culture you are in?
Sorry to be harsh. Just to be fair, as an American…it is hard to tell sarcasm in your videos when we don’t know you, specifically when you come across as serious. Historically, when someone has made several mistakes in their past videos, how can one not think perhaps maybe, just maybe, you are mistaken? I have enjoyed your videos, except for the ones where you have indeed made mistakes. One, you stated Lake Baikal was the largest lake in the world. Not so, it is the deepest. I find myself correcting under my breath as I view your videos. Secondly, you mispronounce places. Not once…I mean, I have lost count. I may have watched a dozen or so of your videos. I think it would be easy to misinterpret sarcasm in your videos when there are indeed previous declarations, unwittingly made, that are incorrect. Just saying. I’m a stickler when it comes to pronoun pronunciations and people declaring world geographic and geological facts, that are indeed not factual. There are young impressionable minds watching your videos that don’t know the difference. Keep in mind if you care.
It’s nice to see travelers to the US not confine a trip to NYC or LA. There’s so much to do and see. I would recommend Montana (Flathead Lake camping and kayaking). A drive from end to end is a long haul, but it’s beautiful and there’s so much wildlife.
Hello this is Mary Ann from South Jersey USA I am so enjoying the two of you I don't like or eat McDonald's not saying bad things about McDonald's but no thank you I've never been out of the country and I'm such a fussy eater I probably have starve if I was in another country what are fish and chips happy trails stay safe
I'm from nw UK and quite a few years back did a USA coast to coast road trip using driveaways. Basically it's delivering cars or trucks but it's more like free car rental. I found the inland part of the states with a few exeptions quite odd. There were a lot of inside out (for want of a better term) towns. Where nothing goes on in the town itself. All the bars n shops n stuff are in a belt around the town. Winchester being a good example. We hit town 5pm on a Friday thinking great.. Beer time. Place was a ghost town. Drive to outskirts of town and its all chains, like taco Bell.. But at least there were people there.
It's not that some people don't understand sarcasm, it's that they (consciously or subconsciously) don't want to understand it. Take me for my word, I had my life destroyed by such people. Rather than blindness, this is ill will, my dude.
Didn't you know indicators are optional extras like cup holders, sun roofs and central locking features? There's some good old British sarcasm for you! I rather enjoy the sarcasm, maybe people who don't understand our humour should be made to watch Only Fools and Horses and Porridge on a loop?!
We visited England back in 1967, My dad had this left hand drive VW van, and had to get used to driving on the left side of the road. When he wanted to pass a truck in front of us, he had to ask my mom sitting on the other side if it was safe. We asked a guy directions on a place to camp, so he was going to ride with us. I thought he was going to drive , wooops !! There were no camp fires allowed in England or anywhere else in Europe. My worst experience in England was a tea time, when I spilled very hot tea all over my bare legs. I was wearing shorts. No fault of the British though.
It's interesting to hear other people speak about America and not negative these guys are having fun but it is so different depending on where you're from it's like going between all these different countries now I'm from the Boston area a lot of people are extremely sarcastic here and Alex sense of humor would be very much appreciated by most
Are you being sarcastic when you say you are sarcastic? Because that would mean you are not sarcastic. Sarcasm means saying the opposite of what you mean. So what do you mean. Love you guys or do i ?
Don’t worry about the comments. There are a lot dumb comments throughout RU-vid and the rest of the internet. As far as the lane signaling, I already know when someone’s trying to get in my lane. I don’t need them to use an indicator, but I still use mine.
Yum burger is a whole lot better than the McGriddle. It's an opinion, but for me, it's a fact! The thing is the Yum burger from Jollibee is chewable and the U.S.A. McGriddle from McDonald's is like hardened sandwiched pancakes with an egg and some plain, flimsy, salty sausage. I've lived in the U.S. for about 27 years so I know this. 😁 McDonald's is better in Southeast Asia because the menu is so varied.
I agree with you that LA drivers have no manners, they are so rude, but many other places like Arizona are very polite drivers. Most of the people that are proud in the USA have never been anywhere else in the world, but the people who travels outside the US are not. Alex don’t let the stupid comments get under your skin. And Emma I’ll say it again and again you are so beautiful spirit and I love your laughter.
