We loved AAR but switched to the ordinary parents guide to teaching reading as it was taking too long and harder to travel with!!! We tried IEW with my oldest and it didn’t work!!! My 16 year old is doing a writing class alongside the teenage athlete we are homeschooling!!! I bought cursive Flashcards for my kids as none of them can read it well!!! My 16 year old is still working on spelling!!!

Do you need to do the teacher's course for iew? I know their website says it is mandatory, I'm just wondering if it's necessary. I would have to purchase the books and not the video course. So I am looking at if the teacher's resources absolutely necessary it seems like it is

So it depends on what program you do. If you use their structure and style then you don’t need anything other than those videos. If you use their themed writing books then you need their Teaching Writing: Structure and Style videos. I’d say get them. I know it’s a big investment but if you’re new to IEW you’ll want that to help you teach how he does the outlines and progresses from short writings to long ones. I know they have a separate course if you’re going to teach it officially somewhere, like at a co-op. You don’t need that for at home. Just mentioning incase those were the courses you’re referring to.
