There was never any scene they shared together to give a hint of chemistry. And what's even stranger is that she kissed Arsenal BEFORE she kissed Tim.

Yeah Tim really doesn't have a great adaption yet. The DCAU version of him was basically just Jason Todd, and most other versions avoid him or just give him Dick/Jason/Damian traits like the Arkham games. Hoping that new batfamily game gets it, weird teleporting aside. Especially considering "Young Justice" in the comics is about Tim's generation not Dick's
This show feels like if Marvel shoved the entire MCU into a season of Daredevil or Agents of Shield. Its too ambitious for its own good. I prefer smaller teams like Season 1 of Young Justice, Doom Patrol or the OG Teen Titans show.
Ironbay Knight G Basically all three iron man movies focused on Iron Man. Same with Thor (less so Captain America) Thanos got three minutes of screen time before infinity war. Besides linking a few mcguffibs together, they didn't dedicate that much time to building up Thanos outside of Avengers 1 and the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Young Justice (outside of the first season that was great) is so plot focused there really isn't any consistent main characters.
Feels like exactly what they did in Ultimate Spiderman. I know people didn't like the show, but it was actually descent when it was just focused on Spiderman and a small team. Then in the later seasons when Marvel got it's hands on it, suddenly it every teenage superhero was shoved into the universe all at once and the original cast was forgotten about. These large ensemble shows hardly ever work. You need a set cast and you need to solely focus on them.

I would’ve preferred a spinoff of Dick, Roy, and the clones doing private security gigs for Will’s company instead of this. Sort of an action comedy type thing.
@Deadpool by that logic it wouldn't make sense to focus on Dick and Artemis' grief because it's been two years. OG Roy was definitely still very messed up mentally and was fully kicked off the team. There was definitely more story to explore there
@Deadpool I'm not saying that grief is something you should get over that quick, but neither is other serious trauma (like getting kidnapped and missing out on huge chunks of your life). Even after the Lex assassination attempt he was still seen to be very volatile by the end of season 2. By comparison he seemed to be really well functioning and calm in his one season 3 appearance. Again, I just think it was a missed opportunity totally fine if you don't agree.
I feel like they should have just made a separate series in the same universe for the rest of the extra characters and just focus on the Season One team.
I wish they had. No shade cast of the ones introduced in season two but I didn't keep watching for the new faces. Same goes for season 3. I want to see the older ones as they continue their journey not start from scratch with a new batch.
Agreed but I would have been OK if they kept it on the season 2 team, they were done dirty. Like cassie, Tim, virgil, Jaime and Bart got a small amount of lines and a fair amount of screen time. Lagoon boy got shafted, guardian and bumblebee got an episode mainly about them and Karen got a cameo in the family episode, arsenal got one appearance in the dick and harper clan episode, el dorado got a story with the meta human teens and batgirl got bat-gunned in the spine. Beast boy was probably the only one who got the good end of the stick.
Yeah, it's common in this series to have parents be voiced by the same actors as the children. If anything, they should've recast Silas Stone and Black Lightning with other actors.

I appreciated that you explicitly stated that the experience of a comic reader may be better than a casual fan like yourself. However, as a comic reader, I don't think the trade-off of world-building at the expense of a concise plot is a fair trade. If I have to sacrifice thematic consistency and cast stability for 10 minutes of Spoiler and Orphan kicking ass, I will pass. By attempting to squeeze in so many characters, we only get a simplified representation of them. Here is an example. Orphan was kid raised to be an assassin by his dad. Everytime she attempted to speak, she was beaten so that she learns to only communicate through fighting. As her father predicted, she also develops amazing body movement reading. One eye-twitch will reveal to her your next 4 moves. But she effectively became mute. After her first kill, she was horrified and fled to Batman's care. Now she swore off killing, work on her speech with Batgirl (Barbara), and is trying to recite Shakespeare. She's a sweetheart. What we got was a stone-cold swordswoman femme fatale who attempted a deathblow on the Mad Hatter. None of her complexity was properly conveyed. This is not an equal tradeoff. Off course I don't expect an adaptation to hit every single story beat accurately word for word. But it should approximate the intended feel for the character and their arcs e.g. Robin's arc to gain independence and a unique identity as Nightwing. Being a lethal silent and antisocial ninja is a far cry from an abused child trying to unlearn a violent upbringing.
You want to talk about broken character arcs? In this season we find out that Miss Martian has a biological younger brother who she always protected from racist green martians. She abandoned that brother the first chance she got to leave for Earth. I seem to remember somebody mentioning in season 1 that Megan snuck aboard Martian Manhunter's ship to get to Earth, so it's not like was invited... Oh, and she barely gives a damn when she meets her actual brother and learns that he essentially became a criminal, and I think SERIAL KILLER!!! (The Ambassador of Marcovia who drove Brion to killing his uncle was Miss Martian's brother in disguise - Savage called him by name in that final scene).
No, he wasn't. The ambassador said his mental powers aren't as good as a Martian's. Her brother was escorted back home to Mars a few episodes ago. That said, I do think his character was wasted.

It would have been better if it was mal instead of that other guy. If they peppered him in a bit more. I could only assume he was doing things to his brother's decisions but since we spent no time with him then I could only do it as an after thought.
It's very scatterbrained. I'll never understand why they didn't pick up just a few months after season 2. Or hell, why not right where that season ended? The last time we saw them in s2, Aqualad was giving out missions for everyone to take part in, so it would have been interesting to see how they would have handled them. Nope, instead we lose two years worth of stories that they keep insisting, "We hope to tell that in a comic book!"

Season 4 better be about the core team have an unexpected alliance with Savage to face against Darksade with the League, Justice Leage actually do something like interaction with new gods or something the coralates to Darksade. Slade fights against Savage because he beliefs that he's betrating the Light, Savange not sure if the Light is enough for him.

I remember there was this moment where superboy asks superman to be the best man at his wedding. That makes me angry because even though that's a logical conclusion to that arc, we never see any of that development there no major scenes of the 2 bonding it just goes from rocky relation ship in s1 to somewhat ok in s2 to fully together in s3 with none of the devopement that makes that moment matter and feel earned
Yeah, and when we see them first meet again suddenly their relationship dynamic has changed and they now consider each other brothers. It's like we missed an entire character arc between them.

A show like this needs to be able to stand on its own, so even if being a comic book fan would have meant you'd enjoy it more already knowing more about the characters, that would still be a fault with the show. A show like this needs to be able to stand on its own independent of the comics.
Tell that to Professor Geek and all the die hard comic fans in the world. They all think every adaptation needs to respect the source material and if it diverges in any way it is a betrayal. Honestly he has become too toxic for me to enjoy his videos

Static looks so lame in Outsiders. What's with his outfit and his hair. No cool goggles? I know it's a completely different interpretation but he doesn't look so good in this show. Also he kinda sucks as a character in general. Why is he in desperate need of a girlfriend? Static from Static Shock can probably kick his butt 40 times over before he can say "I need a girlfriend".
I know and Static was one I was really excited to see coming back for season 3. When announced I was also really excited to see Orphan, then when the season started & Batman Inc split I really wanted to follow that team and see their missions & team dynamics. All the best people were wasted or ignored by the show.

As someone who does read a lot of DC comics, I think your thoughts are pretty spot on here. My enjoyment of these characters in the comics doesn't override how badly they were handled in this season.
that one zatana episode annoyed me to no end, because literally the villain's entire point was to exposition dump. LITERALLY. everything he said was exposition. it was awful.
This season is terrible, from start to finish with a few good moments sprinkled in. It has many issues, but I'll raise the problem of the constant and pushed romance. Every romance. They push awkward moments down your throat like a baby trying to push the cube block into the circle hole. For example, that scene where three different couples are shown kissing one after the other. It was beyond awkward to watch. I know romance is a big part of superhero stories, but it's not the most important part. You can be single and save the world, I promise. I cringed so much during that episode where Static Shock kept saying he needs a girlfriend. No, you need a character. The reason season one worked so well is because it explored themes, instead of hammering in messages. Go back to that.
I miss the first season of young justice. It had a big cast but it took the time to make you care about all of them and understand what they were all about.
Outsiders had some good ideas in concept, but it really needed someone to look over the script and point out the flaws before it was made. Over all, i still enjoy Young Justice, but i'm still frustated that what started as an amazing show ended up beeing mediocre.
I'm trying to think of what the team of "Outsiders" did this season and it's hard to draw on a lot of positives. Brion: Imagine Superboy with none of the interesting qualities and a bad accent. Halo: A character who is trying to scream a message but sometimes it comes out as a garbled whisper. People did NOT like the stuff with her & Harper, among other things. Forager: Good news Lagoon Boy, you're NOT the most annoying character in this series. Virgil: Whined about being single. Handed Black Lightning a hot dog in an episode where he didn't speak because significant budget cuts wouldn't allow it. Dwayne McDuffie would be SO proud. Wonder Girl: Whined about her boyfriend (Tim) and...uh...um...argued with her Mom about crime-fighting? Traci 13: She messed up a boomtube somehow and...she hits Jaime a lot. Bart: In his brief scenes, showed that he was 10 times funnier than Forager. Also mentioned his rapport with other teammates but who wants to see THAT on a show about teen superheroes? Blue Beetle: One of the breakout characters of season 2. No word of a lie, after it was over, I went out and bought ALL the Blue Beetle trade paperbacks out there (Pre New 52). They must have thought everything he did in season 2 was enough exposure and he did very little this season as well. The social media scenes, I really despised. I have a feeling it was Greg Weisman & Brandon Vietti's way of highlighting the power of the medium, since that was a key factor in the show getting brought back. However it felt like they focused too much on it. Lex Luthor should NOT be talking about how the Outsiders are trending. You said it was written by people who don't understand how people use social media and that may be from Weisman who by his own admission is a bit of a Luddite when it comes to social media. And the shortcuts were VERY noticeable as you mentioned. There had to have been some budget cuts this season, for whatever reason. And the deception of Artemis, I thought was terrible. If there's one thing this season was good at, it was getting me to dislike characters that I once cared about. What frustrates me the most was that fans, like myself, waited SO LONG for season 3. It was a long six years, yet we felt it would be worth it. But in the end it wasn't.

@@schweitzer-man6227 and don't get me started on the 4 other characters Tim Drake: Had nothing to do for the entire season and had no character for the scenes he was in at all also he was basically Batman's bitch the entire season. On top of that we still know nothing about his relationship with Wondergirl, they didn't even interact at all this season. Spoiler: Threw a tracker on Clayface and disappeared for the rest of the season. Arrowette: Just like the writers I forgot she existed. Orphan: In the comics she was portrayed as a tragic character who couldn't talk and was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin but after killing a man and reading his body language as he died she swore never to kill again and even ripped the bat symbol off of Batwoman's chest in a fit of rage after Batwoman killed clayface and was actually a sweet kindhearted person. Now lets cut to the scene in the show where Orphan acts as an emotionless killer who tried to kill Mad Hatter in the first scene she is introduced. On the bright side its still a better adaptation than the Birds Of Prey one.
Young Justice Outsiders was so bad I can't even recall if I've actually watched the second half or not or whether I recognize any scenes that you've included in this video. ... This is coming from someone who's first tattoo ever was "Get traught or get dead" on my wrist. To say Outsiders was an extreme let down is putting it in a very kind and mild manner.
Honestly one thing that turned me off to the thought of this season was Halo. Nothing about her character or anything but I watched a clip of her and a group fighting Lobo and she gets impaled and the chain ripped out of her in a brutal way but no other character seems to get hurt nearly as seriously as her. I think some of the comments even mention she's 'died' before in the series. This makes me think that her sole reason for existing is to be a Kenny for the show, someone to kill and maim with no consequences though not for a joke but to be edgy and brutal without actually having to kill off a character. I could be very wrong, I only have clips and comment sections to go off of but the idea that only the immortal character gets treated like this seems so lazy and needlessly edgy. If you want more blood and death, have the balls to kill characters that will stay dead and if you don't want to kill any characters, don't have bloody and brutal moments. If I am wrong about anything, please correct me, again I haven't watched this season so I am just going off of clips and comments but those clips did give me a negative opinion on a possible aspect of the series.
She definitely has a Wolverine-tier case of "only the immortal character ever gets injured". She does very chewed out for letting herself get hit multiple times, so they *kind* of try to frame it as a character flaw, although it's a bit transparent. But she also gets a ton of character development, probably the most of anyone in the cast - she's basically the main character of the season. She's definitely not just there to take gnarly hits and show the bad guys are serious. (And - spoilers, I guess, although it was briefly touched on in the video - part-way through the season she's informed her healing factor is actually imperfect, which gives the deaths a bit more weight since there's an impression she's reducing a very limited lifespan by an unknown amount each time.)
I felt like they had way too much arcs and didn’t have enough episodes to like make the arcs good and honestly the beast boy team with social media thing was way too cringy for me
I agree, I'm excited for the next season for more of what I love, and for some improvements, though I hope there isn't a massive time skip between seasons this time, we need some time to grow the outsiders characters
i really hope that in the next season, it brings in characters we know although jason todd had no actual screen time in any of the seasons, we know who he his, we know his goals, we know his personality, so, it wouldn't be that jarring to feature him in season 4, unlike the characters of season 3 who we know nothing about.
also i hated the way outsiders showed present day political and social problems so explicitly and i was kinda put off by it...i mean i wanted a better way to show the problems they were talking about....i mean they literally put donald trump words in lex luthor's mouth and lex luthor is not like that....he is smart and conniving manipulator...also so many references to discrimination and racism as opposed to showing it....it felt like a parody of whats happening in real life....they treated the real life references as a throwaway punchline or just as a token....as they always say- show...dont tell......i feel like outsiders meta commentary was just way too explicit and on the nose....had it been more subtle i would feel better about it

I really think writers should just not use social media in stories. They don't understand it and it just feels forced most of the time. So why not just avoid it as much as possible.
As a comics fan, the need to stuff as many characters in as possible doesn't matter to me when it harms character development and overall storytelling. Its not a fan service to include these characters if the show does nothing with them, its a disservice. Take of instance two members of the original young justice comic run: Wonder girl and Arrowette. Wonder girl (Cassie Sandsmark, daughter of Zeus and an human archeologist) was kind of a nerd in the comics starting out. She also struggled with shyness. She wore a wig in the beginning of her career to essentially taking on a different personality as wonder girl. Cassie also had a huge crush on Conner Kent. As the original young justice went on, she gained a lot of confience, shed the wig, and took over as the leader of YJ from Tim Drake Robin. Arrowette (Cissie King-Jones) was a legacy. Her mother bonnie had previously been arrowette and was now essentially a stage mom that forced Cissie into being a hero. After Cissie almost killed a man, she quit being a hero and stood up to her mom. Despite not being a hero anymore, Cissie regularly appeared in the Young Justice run, going on a journey to discover who she was as a person, putting her archery skills to use in the Olympics and developing a stronger healthy relationship with her mother. Really for me, she was the mvp of the run. In the show, what can you honestly those two in the show. Arrowette was a character that was heavily anticipated in the runup to the release of the season and was promoted as a new member of the team and you do even remember that she was in this show. Wonder girl has been her since season 2 and all I can tell you about her is that she is dating Tim Drake.
Love these reviews. Season 1 was one of my Top 10 favorite cartoons and the rest is...okay. Too many characters for my taste. It really sucks since I liked Blue Beetle and Arsenal in Season 2 and now they're barely around.
Exactly they were easily the 2 best new characters and their respective episodes are the best of the season by far. They deserved main character slots this time around
Season 2, I didn't mind. I wasn't crazy about the lost five years but I got used to it because I thought we wouldn't be doing that again and in season 3, we'd be getting to know more of the heroes we didn't really know from season 2, those who didn't get a lot of focus. Hell, the promotion for season 3 was "The Heroes You Demanded Are Back!" But season 3 focused mostly on Brion, Halo & Forager. I didn't ask for those characters.

You know what hurts? I was one of the people clamouring for season 3 of Young Justice. This was my favourite show. Season 2 might’ve had some problems but the ending left me needing answers. Imagine my disappointment watching season 3. I was heartbroken because I hated Outsiders. I didn’t enjoy it at all. There is one scene that I found touching, and it was when Megan helps Harper confess that her father is abusive. That scene broke me. I don’t have a drunk alcoholic father thank god, but I know what it’s like having a broken family. I know what it’s like to take the brunt of your parents anger to shield the rest of your siblings. And seeing Megan believe Harper gave me hope that I could one day tell my story and not get judged for it.
If Klarion said "constipated" while trying to say "consternated", that'd be funny. "Constipated" and "contained" don't sound that similar at all. That joke was really lame in how they executed it
I feel like it was purposely done so you would know something felt off. Klarion did not feel like himself. Something was off and the fact that they couldn't find Fate for that seems equally important. Zantana had to deal with him because the Outsiders don't have a magic user (which may be our lead in to Raven next season, who knows).
The new characters were pretty cringey: Geoforce, Halo and Terra. I hated all of them. I wish Season 3 could've just been about Batman Inc. and their covert missions, that episode with Batman, Katana and Metamorpho was pretty badass.
Halo, Terra, and Forager are all awful, but I did kind of like the twist with Geoforce at the end. Sure, he was under mind control, but it was still an intense scene.
This show doesn't even feel like young justice anymore, I wish they just made like a prequel esq season between 1 and 2, I was invested in those characters and Its great that they are adding newer heroes, I still didnt even learn everything abt the season 2 new cast

The biggest problem for me is that the light doesn't feel like a threat at all. Seriuesly there strongest soldiers are no match for the heroes. Two of the people in charged are besicly only there for technicly using brainwashing abilities and have a hold a country. Lex Luthor has been reduce to a Trump is bad, evil generack liberly talking points. Deathstroke great villain but he just doesn't really replace Ra's al ghoul in this villain organization. Ultra humanite is only better then then queen bee and embasitor for at least being more know. Vandal Savage and Klarion are okey choices the only problem is that Klarion was defeated way to easy.
People (like you) have said that Young Justice feels directionless. That's because Young Justice IS directionless, and it all comes down to Greg Weisman. Greg Weisman is not a bad writer, as most of his work is critically acclaimed for a reason. It's just that Weisman is unhinged. He always has these grand massive ideas for the things he works on. He's clearly passionate about the things he works on. But TV is a limited format and his ideas are simply too much for 22 minute formats and the way he works might just be best for a novel format. He's also the guy who loves to set things up for events in advance, even if they will never come to fruition. this is also the reason why there are so many characters in Young Justice. Weisman most likely has a plan for 99% of the characters in his show. Jason Todd is in Young Justice, but we may not see why he's there until season 7, because Weisman. And if Season 7 doesn't happen, that means Jason Todd was effectively there for no reason. Weisman flatout admitted that he will keep making Young Justice until Time Warner/Warner Bros simply stops giving him money to do so. This is bad in a storytelling way because this means that Young Justice has and never will build into an endgame. Shows like Avatar the last airbender were always building towards a conclusion. Shows like Breaking Bad were always building to a conclusion. Young Justice is very much like its comic origins (as in DC comics as a whole). It's just going to keep on going. Plot points introduced in earlier seasons may never be realized because that's just how Weisman does things. I still enjoy Young Justice, flaws and all. And I completely get why people pretty much don't like Seasons 2, 3, or even 4 (or half of S4 as of this writing).
And let's not forget the stupid idea of him adding gore and graphic violence because "we don't have censors anymore" when all it did was add nothing since YJ didn't need it and it was just gross and awful
People criticized season 3 from the very first episode because of the very poor animation. It turns out that was the least of anyone's worries. I just cant believe that they had so much time to plan a storyline, from the time of announcing there would be a season 3(and who knows how long before), that this is what we got.
Yeah tragically this tends to be the case when writers have a lot of time. Too many time leads to lots editing/revisions and people get comfortable with the script and feel like they can add more. Sometimes, short deadlines can be a good thing. (No idea if this is actually what happened just talking in general) Of course the opposite can be a bigger issue. We have all seen how bad writing gets when rushed.
Season 3 has the same problems as season 2. Too many characters, too many plots, just too much in general to keep up with. I really wish yj could have just stuck with the oc cast from season 1-3 without doubling the cast with every season.
I kindof wish we got more s2 (mainly blue beetle,tim drake,impulse,and wonder girl.) cause we really got none. I also would’ve preferred to see barbara to become oracle on screen
The first 2 seasons of Young Justice had a very similar style of story telling to Legend of Korra, Wolverine and the X-men, and Spectacular Spider-man. They were predominantly story and world-building driven shows, but told their stories through the perspective of the characters within them. This is to be contrasted with shows like Teen Titans and ATLA, whose stories are quite literally built around their characters with the goal of highlighting specific arcs. Neither is bad in my opinion, though the former style is more rare in American animation. The issue with season 3 of YJ is that it completely loses it's perspective characters. S1 was through the perspective of the original team, while S2 was predominantly through Blue Beetle's perspective (with some other highlights through the original team). The first half isn't awful because it does MOSTLY stay with Nightwing, Artemis, Superboy, Brion, Halo, and Forager, but the second half just doesn't do that. They have a set of world/story events they need to happen, and a set of character events that have to happen, and they are pretty much inserted and resolved randomly and independently. And then I just don't end up caring about either. You can have ensemble casts. You can have minor characters who have small arcs in the background. But you need to decide which characters the watcher will engage the show through.

About the miss martian Artemis zatana thing, according to zatana her spell only works on the decease but we are told after the vision that zatana could not locate wally's spirit which most likely means he never died but is somewhere else (there is a dc comic based on this but i forgot the name). They probably didnt say anything bc of how unhealthy Artemis was mentally and telling her would drive her insane.
That scene will bite them when it turns out Wally didn't die. He'll show up with no memory of that encounter and Artemis will know they lied to her. She can either be understanding or lash out.
That does make the deception more understandable, but it just creates the problem of: if they know Wally is alive somewhere why isn't anyone trying to do anything to find him?
The issue is very much the same as season 2 except it's in overdrive. Too busy, not enough time to learn about characters we should have we more time with. At the same time it tries to make these big statements and use batman as a "shadow" team... none of this season works for me. They try to get me to care about so much i end up caring about none of it.
Your criticisms of the Outsiders' problems all being solved by plot convenience reminded me of some sort of "cute animal test" I read about once. Basically, if you can replace a character with a cute animal without affecting the plot, then that character doesn't really matter or isn't very proactive or something. But now I mostly just want to see a superhero team comprised entirely of completely normal kittens in cute outfits.
That's honestly a good point. Justice League Unlimited has the same flaws with focus and excessive characters that Outsiders did, yet it never gets any criticism.
GamerSlyRatchet1 I’d have to disagree with that one. I think JLU works because it doesn’t try to juggle too many plot points. Theres only two main arcs in that series in Cadmus and the Legion of Doom. And even though there are a lot of new characters in the show most episodes with the new heroes are self contained so there’s no season long character arc with them and the new characters are also usually partnered with a character we’re already familiar with from the original League so it’s not like we’re following complete strangers.
My main problem with the show as a whole is that it's not really Young Justice, its the Teen Titans then The Titans. Then after that its still not even really Young Justice. Its also not even really The Outsiders. Those are my problems, but these two videos nailed it on the head.
Does anyone think its weird that they introduced a bunch of Z tier teenage superheroes this season, instead of like supergirl, firestorm, Rose Wilson, (slades daughter), Gear (since static is a main player now), heck I'm pretty sure kid devil has more of a following then forager.
Yeah I have to agree the worst part of Young Justice Outsiders were the actual Outsiders team. So much focus was put on them in the latter half of the season but they never really developed, and it caused a lot of plot points to feel rushed. I get what the writers were going for trying to pay tribute to the fans for bringing the show back thanks to help through online support (which is what the "Outsiders" used to gain popularity and to try to change the narrative about meta teens) But it just felt kinda cheesy and I think the plot suffered because of it. I'll still watch season 4 but the writers need to focus on their storytelling.
It's even a more SPECIFIC Scooby Doo reference with voice actors and characters pulled directly out of the Mystery Inc. version of the show. It was so jarring to watch that episode. I thought I was going crazy.

Dude, it doesn't matter if you're not a comic book fan. If you're watching a TV show, you should only be required to watch that TV show to understand what's going on. You do not need and should not have to see any background content. The majority of people watching this show are casuals. Most people don't read comics so this show's primary audience are people just like you. You don't need to give the show excuses for you disliking it. It's the show's fault, not yours.
I genuinely respect Outsiders for its ambition. A superhero show trying to tackle human trafficking, grief, social media's growing relevance, UN politics, gender identity, and trauma, was really admirable. Unfortunately, they tried to tackle all of this in one season, while simultaneously attempting (poorly, unfortunately) to develop 20+ characters. It's no wonder it didn't work
Even if you already know the characters, you're gonna want they're personalities and what you like about them conveyed in the adaption. If you don't do that,, they can pretty much be anybody and it doesn't really matter that they're using those characters.
Brion's betrayal of his brother and the ambassador's influence were sort of hinted in the first three episodes. Brion is asked about if he thought he could be a better ruler than Gregor and he is interrupted before he actually shares his thoughts. The ambassador also influences Gregor into banishing his brother, even though he's clearly reluctant about it. I do think that's not enough for either plot, though, and it robs Brion of any agency in his actions or character arc.
I feel like Brion being influenced will give him another chance to do the right thing. If you pay attention, he's not happy where he is. I feel like this season was rushed. Like we should have had 2 seasons and not just one. Then we could focus more on the characters. I also think Dick should have been shown telling Brion about his family and his experience losing them. There was an opportunity to relate to Brion by showing him that Dick understands what it's like to feel like you can't do anything to get the people who hurt you.

I just wasn't comfortable with how the show wrote him off as an irredeemable monster, especially compared to M'gann, who willingly harmed people, apologized for it half-assedly when she happened to hurt a friend, then tried to justify her immorality in this season. See also: Roy Harper, which the post-S3 radio play thankfully rectifies.
Yeah, Outsiders as a whole could've used more episodes and maybe even longer episodes than just 20+ minutes. Sadly the creators got a chance but with a project that simply needed much more than a bare minimum they got. I've enjoyed the series and I don't have as much problems as you did Lowart but I am a fan so I missed a lot of criticism you've had. Still, I wish all the best for another season!
Honestly, I think making the episodes longer would have just ruined things even more. I think the philosophy the show runners had was cram as many things as possible, so I can’t help but think that they would have just messed up even more.
I always hate that black lightning became the leader of the league just because he called everyone out for lying. I mean it would be different if he found a new way to take down the light rather than working behind the scenes like the league was doing, plus he really didnt do much out side of whine, shoot a god with lighting for 1 minute and reveal what orical found out.
I'm a fan of the comics and I'm bummed out that they've wasted Young Justice since the end of season 1. They're terrible at developing these new characters, but they did a piss poor job of developing every set of characters as once they were even starting to become fully formed, the season ended and the focus was given to an entirely new team of heroes.
In an interview, the creators said they intended for the show to have a rotation of casts almost every season and to continue with the time jumps. The problem with this model is that when we get attached to characters from previous seasons, we'd be disappointed that we didn't get to see more of them or at least get a solid conclusion to their major arcs.
I hated how they dragged social media into the show. It was beyond stupid, your points on it pretty much voiced my thoughts. Though I myself don’t use social media unless we’re counting RU-vid and Discord, I find stuff like Twitter and Facebook overrated. I hope season four ends up being more like season two.
I feel like because season one didn't have that many characters like in the later seasons they're able to showcase all the characters almost perfectly and give them great character development whereas in the later seasons fans couldn't really connect with newer characters because they don't have enough screen time and have almost zero backstory
I feel like Beast Boy and the Outsiders were annoying. Beast Boy creating the outsiders was really irresponsible on his side. He was pretty much encouraging civilians to get involved in superhero work. I don't think that the writers understood the point of secret identies. Like of course Garfield being that public would get his girlfriend kidnapped. The outsiders illegally crossing international borders is fine. The league and the team always did that but they a made sure to do it discreetly. As far as the government knows, the outsiders committed a crime by showing themselves off for a hashtag. I actually agreed with what lex said about them
So as someone who watched all of season three, I remember almost none of these clips. I don't even remember most of these plot points you're talking about. I can barely tell you anything about these characters. All I can truly remember is the clone gang doing private security, and fucking hating what they did to Artemis's grief. How is Miss Martion do the same God awful manipulation every season and not learn anything from it? I'm so confused and disappointed. I used to love this show.
As a fan of the comics I had high hopes for this season. I thought they would do a arc similar to the flash rebirth arc. In the arc Wally west has been dead/gone for a long time (from previous comics). The arc focuses on Wally trying to contact people he knew In order to bring him back. Wally is stuck in the speed force and cannot get out which is how I thought they could have played his season two death off and I was slightly disappointed that it didn’t happen. And I really don’t want to get my hopes up for it again but it could still be done in season 4. The season could show Artemis moving on and having a family with Roy and finally settling down again. Then Wally comes back and she’s stuck in the middle of having to choose what she would do. Go back to her love or stay with her family. They could also bring in the zatana arc in too. Artemis could go ask them about Wally and then have it revealed that it wasn’t the real Wally and was just in her mind, making her mad at them but also putting her in an even worse spot then she was before. I know it probably won’t happen but that would be great
I’m a very casual comic book fan, and for me, the season was frustrating to see the writers try to jam so many story arcs into a very short time. We have The Outsiders forming, an adaptation of the Judas Contract, Cyborgs entire origin which is wrapped up before the season ends, some kind of Batman Inc stuff, and then all of the B plots mentioned, it’s just waaaaaaay too much stuff. It’s honestly amazing that a seemingly competent team of writers came up with all of these plots and characters and thought it was a good idea to keep everything in. There seriously wasn’t anything they could’ve cut?
Same Young Justice season1 was better cuz it was about the team hanging out and being freinds and making jokes And I guess it was depressing cuz Wally's death(which he isn't really dead)was hard on the team. And it wasn't funny cuz wally is usually making the jokes and makes funny momments but when he comes back,the show will return like how it was back in season1.
The question you asked at the end, pertaining to Mrs. Martian; Artemis literally put them between a rock and a hard place. Zatanna other than John Constantine knows exactly the kind of darker influences Artemis would have had to ply bargains with in order to get what she wanted. It still wouldn't have been any more possible. Wally was too long dead by that point. Just because she didn't want to believe it, doesn't make that immutable point any less true in the context of this version of the story. It was amoral, and it did run counter to Miss Martian's lesson arc... but they were in fact saving Artemis' soul in this case. Because any creature she bargained darkly with, wouldn't have told her how impossible it was until it could hurt her all the worse. They might have conjured the very same shadows, and used them to break her. Any number of things. Which she would then be bound to in contract. With very little conceivable wiggle room. Also, if you saw her eyes at the very end when she was walking away - look at her face. She already knows. Deep down. She knows. If Artemis does challenge the group on it, they can call her out for the stone wall choice she threw down on them. I'd be more concerned about Conner finding out, and breaking the engagement. I wouldn't put it past the show-runners to re-use that drama. Unfortunately, the closure Artemis wanted had to come from within. She had to be able to accept that no, she didn't get what she wanted. At all. There was no time to say good bye, and yes Wally really is gone. She loved him, and lost him, and there is no magical reset button. At least, not without a heck of a price involved. Which he wouldn't want, if it were even possible. You could argue this was a sly way of both arguing the merit in a white lie to protect someone you love, and the caution against consequences come due, for over reliance on them. For reference as I see your comment about bots, I'm pretty sure one wouldn't bother to write a comment this involved... but I might be a borg. You never know if I've found my own beetle somewhere. Right now, in the context of what the characters in the show know - he is dead. There is no guarantee he can come back or he would have done it by now. If he's running through the speed force trying to work his way back through time; it's a needle in the haystack scenario at best, to get back to the same point he left. Since they haven't bothered setting out the kind of time flow that exists and they never actually should for too many potential contradictions going forward, time can't necessarily be reversed in that sense. At least not with any accurate effect. For the moment, he is dead. Well and truly, and while I am not saying he won't come back, the writers do have to work with what they can allow the audience to know. Frankly she might well have moved on to someone else even if Wally does come back. It's not what I'd want to see myself since I liked them as a couple, but I think they could delve into an interesting character development with such drama. If they took the matter as serious as they should and gave it proper time to breathe. To the context of bad animation, the "dead eye" stare was more about her stoic nature, and the fact she is highly traumatized. Criticize the work all you want. It might have been rushed, I don't know. I can only state what I took from the scene. You're free to disagree. I'm just trying to point out it was a complicated issue, and perhaps to a degree some could have missed.

Sure she says she would find someone like Wotan to do it for her if she couldn’t get her what she wants but here’s the thing: Artemis is a normal human, Zatanna is a Sorceress and Megan is an alien who has numerous abilities, one of which is super strength. If Artemis was planning on doing something that could’ve potentially been a harm to herself or others they could have, and really *should,* have restrained her until she calmed down and listened to reason. They *did not* need to make an elaborate rouse to deceive Artemis the way that they did, Zatanna could’ve simply told her the goddamn truth and helped her emotionally vulnerable friend in an honest way. And no, it’s clear that Artemis didn’t know the truth of what really happened, why would she? From her perspective she just talked to Wally himself, she couldn’t have any clue that he as just a mental projection made by Megan and Zatanna. And no, she could *easily* challenge them and call them out on it if she knew the truth. Because regardless of anything “good intentions” they were deceiving and manipulating her while she was at an emotionally vulnerable time in her life and in a despicable way by making her think she was speaking to her deceased lover. That’s fucked up no matter how you try to hide it with flowery language. Yes she said she would find someone else but she didn’t have the power to actually *go through with it,* how is a normal person like her going to get easy access to someone like Wotan to begin with? And again, a Sorceress and an alien with super strength could’ve restrained her from doing something stupid like that. And what do you mean he wouldn’t want that? Why wouldn’t he want to come back to life and be with the love of his life? It’s not like he died of natural causes, he died on a mission where things went wrong and he was seemingly dead, I’m sure Wally would like to have a chance to just live life. And while they established in this episode that Zatanna can’t do that, it seems like an arbitrary rule for a Sorceress who can do literally anything but that. And how did this showed the merit of a “white lie”? They could’ve simply helped her in a completely honest way, if they gotten her the help she clearly needed, there’s a reason why therapy exists and she might have some problems that could require someone to help her figure out, but nope, just lie to her and give her a false sense of closure, that beats having to actually do real work. And let’s be real here, Wally likely isn’t really dead. With the bait and switch they did with Artemis’ story here by confirming that she wasn’t actually talking to Wally it’s clear that they might just bring him back. This *is* the DC Universe and this kind of thing is rather common, well for popular characters but this is Wally West we’re talking about, he has a good shot here. I don’t really want him to really come back, because I think it would render this whole episode pointless and I would rather see Artemis find another person to be in a relationship with but I can’t deny the possibility that he’s coming back, especially since DC Rebirth did a similar thing with Wally where he came back and it’s possible that the show will adapt that in some way, especially with the third season confirming that Jon Kent and Damian Wayne are born at this point so I expect some things from Rebirth might happen.

Do you think I ever forgave them, even if I understood exactly why they thought it was necessary at the time, and that it was protocol? It was over a decade ago, I still remember how it felt, and how angry I was. Then, and now. Just thinking about it. She isn't even with Wally in the comics, so this is arguing about an alternate reality. I gave my point of view. You don't have to agree. By the way, explaining to an already emotionally vulnerable "friend" who already has a "lone wolf" mentality that you lied to them, no matter the reason isn't going to end well. Especially not with a person who has as many issues as Artemis. She actually does have the kind of brain/ability to track those people down. She has the connections in the superhero community that with as determined as she is, and as inclined to bend the rules as she would be... she very much CAN track someone down who would do it for her. She was trained to be tactically minded. A solo hunter. She has access to the super computer records. Do you honestly think she hasn't at least researched the weak-points of any enemy the JLA have faced. Some of whom either directly have the kind of dark juju she'd need to go around Zatanna's hard nope, or know people who do. Wally wouldn't want her to bring him back through darker means. It's the how it's done. Not that it's done. He'd care more about the cost to her even if that did/could bring him back; and the fact by going that route she very probably STILL would not get what she actually wanted. There is NO benefit to a demonic/chaos entity actually giving her what she asks for in the bargain, if one could be made with the terms she's asking for anyway. You seem to want to fight about this. I don't. Again, read the posts; I said it's entirely possible he's already working to come back, but it's like a needle in a hay stack. So IF he is working to come back because he never actually died, she gets into a dark bargain for no reason that will only end with her in a chaos entity's clutches. That's what Wally wouldn't want. I also very specifically stated she is traumatized and agreed there would be heavy consequences to the white lie BASED on the fact she does need therapy. Which is also something a person has to choose. Artemis had to be willing to admit she had a problem to sort out; but here's the key to that point - they do live in a world where maybe death isn't the end . Where gods, and monsters routinely pop in for a" how do you do" dust up. A "pleased to meet you- what do you mean you don't know my name," type deal. She'd try therapy only AFTER the less realistic, more fantastical options had definitely run dry. More than that, she needs to learn to let him go, IF he's actually gone. Accept that she didn't get the closure she wants, and move past it. I'm not saying it won't be hard, but yes she did in that situation put them in a very difficult position. They were in the middle of a continued war none of them know they can win for sure, and she's dragging out a couple very heavy hitters to do this incredibly personal thing for her. With her, and on the threat she'll just find someone else who won't care about the cost to her, if they don't. Artemis is trusting them, even if she's being highly manipulative about it. From a character like her, with the familial issues she does have, that says a lot. Which is why what you're suggesting - they should dog pile a friend they know is under powered compared to them, turn it into a very personal physical fight... would rend any kind of continued relationship by being the sledgehammer instead. There's a reason Miss Martian didn't use her physical superiority as a threat. That Zatanna didn't just magically bind her; or that either of the two blanked her memory. Yes, any of those things can be done. They shouldn't be, at all, but they can. I've expressed my opinion, and you're free to disagree. Personally I'm not here to argue. With anyone. I will say I doubt highly they'll do anything with Jon, as A LOT of people don't like Bendis' run... and frankly it'd undercut the heck out of Conner. Damien is more tied to Raven in a few instances and most commonly I think the movies, but it could work to give him a run with Artemis if she hardens. Becomes a bit more like Sports Master once she realizes what her 'friends' have done, and that Wally just might really be dead. Frankly her whole stubborn bit is because she mentally/emotionally can't afford to believe he's dead. It would hurt her far too much. I'm not a big fan of repeating myself. Have a good day.
I think the biggest problem is that YJ tries so hard to create its own universe, adding more and more characters that don’t get their own complete stories and just end up feeling half-assed and taking screen time away from the main heroes (Beast Boy basically narrates his own character arc in 5 minutes and it’s pathetic) unlike season 1, where we had a core group of 6 and each of them had their own stories and clearly defined arcs, even if it wasn’t perfect (Nightwing is basically the protagonist of season 3, although using the term protagonist is very generous, but he doesn’t get much attention in the previous 2 seasons, not like the other core 5 anyway, because the show kinda relies on you already knowing who he is but it’s a little bizarre if you don’t).
I don’t understand why people just want the og characters. They’re eventually gonna have to go the justice league. Then where does that leave the show? With undeveloped “side characters”. They need to develop the S2 team now so they can replace the og team
People don't necessarily want the OG 6 but want the focus thr show originally had back in season 1. Season 2 there was a time skip and a lot of development was lost off screen. Then there were s ton of new characters that were added with very few getting development. Then season 3 had another time skip and added even more characters that got little screen time.
Yes they are eventually going to have to go to the justice league but since the writers can move the story forward however quickly they want there wasnt really any major need to worry about that. The OG6 were in no danger of reaching that point by the end of season one but instead the writers just threw all the characters th e audience had connected to onto the sidelines, jumped forward 5 years and pretended a bunch of character development had occured then asked us to try to form connections with 50000 nee characters they introduce both wonder girl and static in season 2, both amazing superheroes and their presence contributes nothing to the story. sticking with the original six over 5 seasons would have been better because it would have been more focused.
This was so cathartic to watch dude. I'm a big fan of both the original YJ cartoon and of DC comics in general, I walked away from S3 disappointed and confused? but couldnt figure out WHAT was wrong? Thank you for breaking it downn
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this season was so unfocused! I was so excited to hear this season was coming since I love the first two but when I watched the whole thing I felt unsatisfied. I usually go to rewatch old episodes while waiting for the new episodes to come out but I only really watched at most 3 episodes out of the whole season. I felt no investment like I did before because there was too much going on. I also thought Miss Martian was horrible this season. I honestly question why Conner is still with her when she lies again. I thought she learned that lesson before.
Lowart I'm new here & I'm starting to work my way through your back catalog of videos. I disagree with many of your opinions & we seem to like a lot of the same things for different reasons, but I respect your opinions & it's fun to kinda view things through a different lens. I think it works because you put so much thought in your scripts & explain things clearly and concisely. I'm glad you're doing what you're doing! Keep up the good work!
As far as the reused voice actor complaint goes, to be fair, they've been doing that since season 1. I think the reason it stands out so much in season 3 is because the cast of characters has expanded significantly compared to the start of the series. It's not so much a worse problem in season 3 as it is an issue that has existed since the beginning finally coming to an inevitable head.
Yeah that's a good point. I hadn't paid much attention to the reused voices previously and, when I looked at the voice actors, I was surprised to find how many people played multiple characters. They did a decent job of masking it before imo - here they just pushed it a bit too far, like you said

At first the Outsiders team was starting off good, that is until Batman Inc just HAD to interfere with their own business and play them like their damn chess pieces. They just didn't think they could do it themselves...AGAIN! Also Static was hardly getting any attention either and you're right about how they needed other black character voices and not just using Khary Payton for most of them.
All these random characters nobody cares about and they make fan favorite, Static Shock...of all heroes...the sad sumbitch who's whole personality is the guy without a girlfriend?

The still images, poor social media representation, and the news bits were so ridiculously overused this season that it made me want to pull my hair out. I loved the earlier 2 seasons, so it hurt a lot seeing how shit a good thing could get. It was terrible. And at first you're excited to see the new characters they're introducing, but then once you actually meet them, they're hollow and uninteresting.
Anyone else notice how Black Lighting changed so much from his debut tho? Like it's a jarring change...and to make him look a tad bit more like the live action black lighting but goddam he looks like he got younger
This review sums up my own feelings on Outsiders pretty great. I had been a huge fan of the first season, tentative fan of the second (the plot was too contrived for my tastes) but as this says: it was just too unfocused. It felt like they knew this might be their last season ever and they tried too, too hard to wrap every single thing up while also pushing the greater plot along in the hope that they might get a fourth season. Like, each of the major plotlines in this (the royal family drama, the outsiders and the old crew) could each have been the focus of a singular season - or at least one third of a season on their own without it jumping between everything so spastically and it would have at least been a more cohesive storyline.
