What Whisky glasses do you have in your collection that you think really help your nosing and tasting?

" Bugatti " nosing glasses

While the glencairn and tumblers are staples, I also have a couple of copita glasses.

there are other names for it but "Highland Tasting and Nosing Scotch Glass" is also a really nice whiskey glass.

Stolzle nosing gassing are quickly becoming one of my favorites, I ordered 2 from Jeremy at sippers social club channel and they're like a glencairn but cut a good amount of alcohol burn off of it. I really recommend for a substitute for the glencairn

I just recently got some of the Bourbon Trail glasses from Libby. I really like them as an alternative to the glencairn. Be forewarned though, they are marge large than you think.

Years ago i started with rocks glasses because i used to add ice. Then no ice. Then a few years ago RU-vid whiskey folks told me i needed Glencarins. I used them for a bit but went back to rocks glasses. Nosing isn't realy that big a deal to me. I mostly drink the same dozen whiskeys all the time and i know what they will smell and taste like. When i am drinking something new, i will break out the glencarin. Cheers.

Totally fair. 80% of it is taste anyway :)

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary hey I’m curious, where do you get the 80% from? Do you mean like 80% of the whisky experience is the taste ? I know some people take a lot more time nosing the whisky than actually drinking it 🥃

I drink neat. I mainly use a Courvoisier brandy sniffer type glass. I also have liquer glasses that are like mini Glencarens with a stem. I also have just straight Jack & Coke type glasses and a few actual Jack Daniels glasses I picked up at thrift stores, probably from holiday box sets.

Thanks for the video! I've considered a Norlan for a while, but the price tag always put me off for what didn't look like any added value, just aesthetics. I've used Glencairns exclusively for years for whisk(e)y. Then I went to someone's house and they gave me Laphroaig in a tumbler. I didn't need to smell it, I already know what Laphroaig smells like, it was nice just sitting around chatting and drinking it rather than analyzing it. I need to do that more often.
@TheWhiskeyDictionary
@TheWhiskeyDictionary 5 лет назад
I completely agree with both of those statements. Norlan really isn't necessary, and it's fun to have a tumbler some times :)
@uncledave6804
@uncledave6804 5 лет назад
Use both a glencairn and tumblers/rocks glasses for most whiskey drinking. Use coupe glasses for drinks that are served “up”. Purely an aesthetic thing, but I don’t care for the look V shaped cocktail glasses. Also have some highballs, but usually use pint glasses for those cocktails, which also can be used for beer. Great group of vids!
@TheWhiskeyDictionary

I tend to use beer mugs as much as I use highballs. It depends on how much I'm drinking

Excellent choices. There are a lot of videos on glassware that recommend owning a ton of different glasses but I'm very much similar to your final setup. I keep a couple glencairn glasses on the shelf where I keep my sipping whiskeys, I've a decanter with a handful of rocks glasses on the coffee table, and a mix of highball, rocks, and coupe glasses in the cabinet that I use for cocktails. Plus everybody needs shot glasses.

Excellent video with great information; thanks for making and posting it. I bought a set of (4) Glen Cairn glasses for nosing and tasting, and I have tumblers and a collection of shot glasses. I also have two tall glasses that came with a bottle of Couvoisier (spelling?) that a friend gave me. The Manhattan glass looks interesting; I might look into a couple of those next.

Well I've got a couple of tumblers I use for water, juice, and soft drinks so I'm set there. Being new to scotch I will be heading out to find a set of Glencairn glasses. I've had Johnnie Walker and a bit of Suntory Japanese Whiskey (so smooth). This time I'm going for some single malt.

I agree - having picked up a Copita at Deanston Distillery, this is now my go to glass. I also have a 1920’s style blender’s tasting glass which has a large bowl and very small opening - great for nosing, but a bit pretentious looking.

Good informative video, Mr. Bill! My tumblers or rocks glasses are ones that came in gift sets. 🤗 My Glencairn's are both plain and branded. Tried and true Glencairn, I have some cheaper stemmed nosing glasses that have a Glencairn-esque shape that work well, a little fragile though. Still on the search for some nicer stemmed glasses, will probably pick up a couple of the stemmed Glencairn Copita glasses as one choice. - Patrick

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Glad that you included the Norlan glass. I love the way it looks and the smell/aroma. @@TheWhiskeyDictionary I've actually soured a little on the Libbey glasses since my comment and purchased more Glencairns. I do love the hand feel of the Libbey glasses, but I think the nose is appreciably worse and they're terrible for blind tastings. But for sipping on something, they're great as long as the nose isn't important in that moment.

Good video. I am always interested in opinions about the different kinds of glassware. I was especialy happy to hear your opinion on the Tuath - I've been on the fence about this one for quite a while. Also I never heard about the "Tribeca", so that was something new. But there are two things, I want to add/comment on: 1) To me, no comparison of whisky glasses could be complete, without at least mentioning Copita- and Snifter-Glasses. Not only is the Snifter my personal favorite, but from my experience those two styles are the ones most often encountered at whiskybars and tastings after the Glencairn. So why did you leave them out? 2) I totaly didn't get your point about shot glasses. If I am into TASTING Whisky - what on earth do I need shot glasses for?
@TheWhiskeyDictionary
@TheWhiskeyDictionary 5 лет назад
1. I should have included the copita. 2. If you're going to fill out your home bar, you should have some shot glasses. That's it

If you're asking how much to pour for a tasting, typically half an oz to an oz depending on how many drinks you think they will have / how nice the bottle is.
