What will HAPPEN to VARRIC? | Dragon Age: The Veilguard 

Bioware is going to give Varric the old man Han Solo treatment, aren't they?

While I love Varric, I felt he overstayed his welcome. If Bioware had spread his inclusion more sporadically like Leiliana, I believe his presence would have been more appreciated, at least for me. I just hope his death is honorable.

Varric the character who simply refused to die in two games what a legend

Varric's going to die. Killed by either the portal, Solas or those two creepy figures who I strongly suspect are two of the Evanurius (evil elf super-mages who posed as gods).

I think he'll get sucked into that portal, and Varric surviving will depend whether you let Hawke remain in the fade or not. If Hawke's there, they'll save Varric.

I think he will stay as a mentor to the team

Solas killing Varric in the opening would honestly sell me on the game. DAI lacked the grit and grime of DA:O and DA2. Those felt like worlds where winning was a challenge and it never came without a real tangible cost. To a degree that it couldn't be called winning just lesser degrees of losing.

I thought a lot about it. Here are my versions. F tier: He doesn't die, it was a bait, they keep him as a marketing pet for the next game too and the game after that one. C tier: Varric dies in the prologue. Which might be the most poorly written scenario. Personally I don't think they would put his death in the very beginning where everything is happening at once, and the new players will not understand and be as affected by his death. For the returning ones, the effect won't be as powerful as it could be. Might leave the audience feeling like BioWare dangled an old friend in front of them for the marketing purposes and got rid of him as soon as we bought and started the game, when it can be so much more impactful. B tier (the most likely one imo): He will die because drama, but way later in the game. Or like, be gone from the main cast forever due to old age. It will be a big moment and will receive a lot of subtitled gifs on Tumblr. A tier: If Varric dies later on and if you left Hawke in the Fade, the story makes a point about it. Either them meeting, or on the contrary, replacing each other in the Fade... We get to see our DA2 story meet a bittersweet or tragic end. I doubt they will let us see Hawke again though, especually now that they announced we get a customizable Inky. S tier: having the player be the one who decides Varric's fate (again probably between death or retirement), but in a way that isn't obviously related to him while making the decision. This way it makes sense story-wise, but allows you to see both versions unfold. Great for replayability, too.

yeah i dont think he makes it past the first couple hours of the game

Quite a good recap of Varric, and I was unaware of Gaider's desire to kill him off. I doubt he'll get killed, namely as he's the narrator of the story from DA2 onward. Most likely he'll be seriously injured and either be collected by Rook and crew and spend most of the game being cared for at the Lighthouse, or will be whisked away by Solas in his retreat from his 'old friends'. Either way, I'm betting he'll step out of the shadows at the BEG battle with a repaired Bianca and quip "You'd think Bianca and I would miss this? Not for all the gold in Thedas."

I hope Solas is still the main villain and not going to be replaced by the Elven Pantheon. I want another chance to punch him.

The pervy sage send off but varric style

I agree with Lisa, a prominent RU-vidr who thinks since Varric lost his beloved Bianca that he may become injured, and after he recovers, that will be how he becomes Rook's adviser as he won't fight without Bianca so that is why he is not part of Rook's companions. I agree with that but my own prediction is that when Solas deflects the statue falling on him he loses "the dagger" and hits Varric accidentally. This may be how Rook gets the dagger as Solas doesn't have it after this and in the cover shot of them all, Rook has that dagger. If Harding runs to his side and pulls it out this may be when she is imbued with magic, but Varric survives. I also think it may be a side quest to find the Dwarf, Bianca to put Varric's Bianca back together even if Varric doesn't use it again in Veilguard.

If varric does die, I hope its the event that brings the heroic side of solas back to the surface. I've also said this before on DA videos, if varric doesn't die, it'll be the inquisitor. Varric is the most beloved companion and inq is arguably the most beloved pc

Its a possibility with kirby gone, and she and others are suing bioware. But you have weekes that stll may be able to continue varric. Idk, we probably find varric off the steps by bianca. I think he lives, the gods want solas not care about varric. Solas imprisoned them. I see varric picking up bianca in the chaos. Varric may be injured in some way.

Both games Varricc was in you spent over half the game finding up grades for that crossbow this game will be no differant

Solas can't kill Varric, The devs then will give us more reasons to kill Solas, It's not a smart move. As of what happened to Varric, It's clear from the trailer that he lost Bianca, So he can't fight anymore until he earns a new weapon, Which will be at the end of the game.

If its true that your party members can die then 7 of them isnt enough.

He's been in two full games, I'd honestly be fine either way. I love him, but I think his death would set a pretty dark tone which is what fans really want. They have to do something big to make up for the garbage combat.

Honestly, if BioWare is SMART, and want to create a compelling narrative, Varric will die in this game.

I would kill every companion before I let Varric die, well until I saw him in the trailer, they've butchered both Varric and Harding

If they kill off Varric like that, it will be very cheap predictable cliche

Hes been a key in 3 games it makes sense that hes old now and would get killed
