What Will This Channel Look Like in 2024? 

What are you most excited for this year? Not from my channel, just in general - let’s get hyped about 2024!

Once I saw how active the schedule for this channel was I was kinda surprised, a lot of these videos are great and they came out pretty frequently, scaling back the upload schedule, does not surprise me at all, at most maybe if you do need more videos (and actually have the time for them), doing 3 videos every 2 weeks could be a good way to maintain a good amount of not critical role videos while also not being as busy.

Congratulations. I have 2 kids and my wife is due in February. Financial stress is real during this time. I’m glad you are working in some time to build in a buffer. Good luck! We will all be rooting for you. Also, from parent to future parent spending a little extra on a bassinet that has a built in sound machine and that moves/vibrates was a life saver for my wife and I. The kid slept much better and so did we.

Happy new year! I think I've the same feeling as you on WOTC products. I will not be throwing mine away and I'm both fond of and familiar enough with current 5e to keep running my home games. I do love your idea of supporting the small guy. It is something I'd love to do if my finances weren't tied up. I don't know if I will buy the new books except the new version of the DMG. Although, respectfully, I have no idea what you mean when you say "the community says its bad"true? That's honestly not true. Every single class and subclass with the exception of the druid has been received incredibly well and as someone who was playtesting some of the stuff and leaving my reviews, I do think I feel heard. There are some necessary changes to spells and abilities that were bad for the game and certain classes have far more options and rely a lot less on DM fiat. My only hope is that they can figure out the Druid. I personally am not a fan of how the wizard is appearing fairly unchanged (you'd expect Wizards of the Coast to do something cool with the class that's in their name but alas!) but I'm also far more interested in trying out new games. Personally I'm looking forward to running Blades in the Dark and Vaesen as well as trying out Pathfinder at some point. I'm happy to see you continuing to do your series on making characters in 5e. I remember it was your video on starting with race first was actually super helpful and I've had a blast playing my current character that is based on the lessons I learned from your video.

I am at the portion of the video where you talk about goals for 2024 and what you wish you could have done vs what you have done. Not to flatter, but I will say, for a newer youtuber (although from watching you I am certain you have had a lot of experience doing other related things) you seem to be very organised, not only in making YT videos, but in general knowing what content you want to put out and meeting those goals. You speak very blatantly about any inconsistencies, past, present or future. You know what you want to do, and, maybe it sets a low bar, but I feel like that's rare in YT in general. Being self employed is hard and making deadlines even more so. So Thank you. To say you treat this as a job makes for subpar writing, but I think you put in the dedication of planning like one would in a job they enjoy. For that I thank you.

Congratulations Mike! I'm so excited for you and your wife! and it's a great time for you to have found a day job you are happy with. I think it will be better for your channel to not have to push it to be your only thing quite yet, and to be able to take some time to experiment with styles, content, and things like that. That way you have as many great tools in your belt when you are ready to take that plunge by choice. You are a big inspiration to me; as a dungeon master, content creator, and person. I have already learned so much in my journey as my first time running a campaign from you, and I hope to make my resolution to improve/commit to my own content creation and am learning from you for that as well. My disillusionment with 5E started early on, thus I moved on long before the events of last year. And none of the systems that try to be the next D&D seems interesting to me, but luckily I am working on my own project, but my focus is more on drama than on epics, but more important my system is more about who the characters are than what they can do. I hope your new schedule will work out, but since I am not interested in the Critical Role Demystified stuff, I am sad that I will only get something every other week. I hope the RU-vid algorithm is not punishing for that change.

Congrats, really enjoyed your channel, vids, and what you want to cover. We might not agree on everything, but your positions are well laid out and make sense. Kids are great fun and planning in some time make it a lot easier. 2:34 yep pretty much, they announced four books to be the "core" of the remaster and so far they've released two of them: Player Core and GM Core. In the spring of this year we'll get the Monster Core, and in the summer we'll get Player Core 2. Also, starting with Rage of Elements from last summer, additional rulebooks/supplements/adventurepaths/etc are remaster compatible. edit: congrats on the job and the upcoming baby!

Awww congrats!~ I've never been pregnant and not planning to ever be but I heard it can be tough so I hope the pregnancy will be as kind to your spouse as it can be! Such an exciting time! Hope your baby will be healthy and have a super happy life and I know with loving parents like you two they're in for a good time! Enjoy Babymoon (I had no idea that was a thing tbh and it's such a good idea!) and even though I'm not a parent and don't plan on ever being one, I've certainly been a child to parents! So from that experience I want to say: don't strive to be perfect parents, because that is impossible. You will make mistakes and that's okay because parents are humans. The absolute best thing you can do as a parent I feel is to acknowledge when you've messed up to your kid (not that I think you'll have a hard time doing that, you seem like excellent people). Always looking forward to more! Looks like you have a lot going well in your life and I hope it gets even better from here! I'm really proud of the payoff for all your hard work! For those interested wrt to Pathfinder Remaster being rolled out: the Remaster consists of four books, two of which are out. Player Core 1 (out) and Player Core 2 (Aug 2024) are the updates for the original Core Rulebook and the Advanced Player's Guide. Game Master's Core (out) is the updated Game Master's Guide, and Monster Core (March 2024 i believe) is the updated Bestiary 1. And for those curious, its probably best to think of the Remaster as like, 2.1e. Everything pre-Remaster is still usable, especially in all the books post Advanced Player's Guide. They were already updating rules with errata changes regularly, this is kind of like a bigger version of that. Also, as always, all the rules are up online for free! (Legally, not like all those 5e sites that everyone uses but are technically piracy)

I purchased the Ghosts of Saltmarsh at my local game store and am planning on running it as my first game. I’m nervous lol but the book is great. I figured I’d be a forever player but my DM needs a break and I’m the best option. Still in the prep stage but I’m hoping it goes well!

Tbh as a newbee to TTRPGs and as someone that lives in the middle of Sweden basically forcing me to find online groups, I dont really feel like I can be picky with systems. Luckily I like heroic fantasy so DND fits well but even tho I wouldnt mind trying to learn a new system there just... Isnt really any.
