I could see Andretti suceeding in F1. Michael Andretti has shown he's a good team boss, yeah that's in IndyCar. But with the Cadillac backing I think money is a non-issue, with the budget cap on top. I think they'd do okay with a good design team. Just need to practice so they can consistently get those 2.5s pit stops perfected and they're sorted. Great video, Tommo! 😁
That’s why the other teams don’t want them. Remember, Andretti had more money lined up to buy Sauber than what Audi ended up paying to buy the team. The paddock wants American money, but not American drivers, teams, or influence.
@@arwyss Sauber fell through because of control issues. I think the whole anti-American think is fake as I dont think they would like any new teams in general.
@@arwyss You say this yet Williams just got an American driver. F1 itself is owned by an American company and they added 3 races in the same country. Saying they are doing it because they are American is odd.
@@KayJblue KayJBlue, i belive Andretti Cadillac driver lineup for 2024 could be very interesting if they did join F1. I bet it could be Kasumi Nakasu and Shane Van Gisbergen/Brodie Kostecki/Matt Halliday.
Thank you for talking about the Andretti past connection to F1. With that and all the efforts we've seen so far, they are legit and I feel should be let in rather than some billionaire throwing some money around, the Andretti's are seriously devoted to racing.
It's not about the money don't you get it already... If Andretti wants the seat he needs to show some actual backing by a manufacturer and not just a check from them.
I was Born and raised in Fishers. Believe me when i say the whole community wants this. Racing is the culture in indy and this team would have absurd support. Also, there are many Indycar and NHRA teams in indy, meaning finding good staff will be beyond easy. Just incredible to see construction on andretti when that place was a ghost farm town 15 years ago. Great vid, so excited
I have tons of Family in Carmel and Fishers. Huge racing fans through and through, we’re all ready, this is F1’s opportunity to show that they aren’t the exclusive pretentious European Boys Club
It's honestly a relief to hear you mention Newgarden as a driver. I've been saying he needs an F1 seat for *years* and was beginning to think I was the only one who thought he deserved a seat. Helluva driver. I'd rate him as being on at least Danny Ricc's level as a driver.
@@TommoMcCluskey I'm surprised Zac Brown didn't give him a seat for next year; I know he's got Piastri, and Piastri is a hench prospect, but I can't help feeling Zac missed an opportunity to play an absolute blinder there. And it's not like he doesn't know how good he is. That said, JN is on Penske money. And Penske money is notoriously disgusting.
Seriously, Newgarden is the real deal. Dude is clinical in his approach, has both the raw pace and consistency needed, is well accustomed to ground effect aero, and is media savvy and polished enough to survive the media storm that comes with f1.
Great video! I agree totally about waiting to get the bids from all parties interested before accepting Andretti but my heart still begs for the Andretti family to be involved in F1, especially as the American audience is finally discovering F1. Also, I think Danny Ric could be a candidate for the experienced driver in an Andretti team. He’s a big fan of the USA, he’s a great personality that brings a happy energy to a team, fans love him which could attract even more attention in the growing US market, and of course he has multiple race win experience despite the last few years results.
Brad Pitt and Will Smith driving for them with Christian Bale as the reserve driver ( considering he’s got WEC experience ) and Tommy Lee Jones as team principal.
I think Kyle Kirkwood or David Malukas would be possibilities for the American driver for sure. Kirkwood won the Indy lights title in 2021 and is taking Alex Rossi’s seat this year in the #27 car at Andretti Autosport. Malukas finished P2 in the 2021 Indy lights season, and in 2022 he had a great rookie season with a podium at Gateway and almost won rookie of the year.
I think we'll see Haas and Williams get taken over by some manufacturers (Ford and Porsche maybe) then have Honda or Hyundai or something and Andretti Cadillac get added to the grid as new teams.
From what I've seen, pretty much all the other teams are trying to stop caddilac/Andretti from joining. It's crazy to me that they could even influence this. If the team can pay the price and follow all the rules needed to enter, they should be able to.
I reckon Danny Ric would be a good shout alongside Herta and although it won’t happen I’d love to see Scotty McLaughlin get an f1 drive after dominating v8 Supercars and doing very well in Indy car
Newgarden is Penske's number one driver, and Rodger Penske has said he'd like to keep him the rest of his career. Not to mention the rivalry between Andretti and Penske
Livery and overalls both look great imo. I love simple black and white liveries, and with the little splashes of color here and there it really brings the whole thing together. I would say tho that perhaps the Cadillac logo should be in full color, at least on the nose to bring attention to it
If Andretti joined, as an American and someone born in Indiana, I’d have to be a fan. Also Tommo thank you for not including my shambles George Russell take from Canada, but I still stand by the idea that he won’t ever be a WDC
Arguing that we shouldn't allow other teams to join F1 in the event that Honda may want to rejoin is just effed up. Like if Honda wants to be in F1 why did they leave in the first place? If anything Honda has proved that they don't deserve to be in F1, they keep on taking it for granted. They're inthenouttheninthenouttheninthenout
If a team finishes in the bottom two constructor positions in three consecutive seasons, regulate them out and replace them with waiting and acceptable teams. Consistent back markers cannot be good for the series. Looking at Williams and the like.
I think Andretti joining in 2024 is probably the best and possibly the last chance for Ricciardo to be back in F1. They have the money to meet his kinda ridiculous demands and Im pretty sure they would love to have a driver with proven abilities in F1 (although its still a risk after his performance in McLaren) but more importantly he has a huge fanbase all around the world among current F1 community, so by teaming him up with someone like Newgarden they would gain tons of fans not only from US but also from Europe, Asia, Australia. It would be a fantastic move in terms of marketing, they would instantly gain a lot of attention worldwide
One of those drivers is American and the other one, I think it’s gonna be, it has to be DR. He’s the great promoter of F1, and has all the experience needed to setup the car and lead the rookie team.
Cadillac also operates in China Also with Ally as a potential sponsor, they are owned and founded by GM specifically to provide the funding for auto loans. They were even called the General Motors Acceptance Corporation for 90 years
My dream driver line up for Andretti would be Logan Sergent or Josef Newgarden and Danny Ric, so we get the American and and Experienced driver as well and Daniel would fit right in. Also as I was writing this comment I realized that if that happened driver numbers would be #2 and #3. Also Andretti are currently developing a huge Facility for all their racing programs including the F1 bid. It’s gonna be in Indianapolis. And as for the engine they look like they would use a Cadillac branded Renault and then in 2026 Cadillac will build their own engine.
Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini are all owned by the Volkswagen AG, Lambo is in direct ownership of Audi. No way Lambo joins as a competitor. As for Porsche, they were just interested in the engine development because they want to keep their sports cars character alive and so want to develop engines that run on efuels. Thats their main concern. So no team from them, thats way too expensive anyways. Porsche is running in FE and just brought the new LMDh for next year. Plus all the GT racing and more, it adds up. Also Porsche sells more cars if a GT2 RS sets a new lap record on the Nordschleife than if they win the WCC in F1. I doubt Honda will come back as a team soon but maybe they take over Alpha tauri and stay in close relation to Red Bull. That might be a way how they join as a team but I dont see how they start from scratch. And even if it so happened that Andretti and Porsche and Honda all wanted to join as a new team, eh 13 is not that far from 12. And I dont know why youre talking about 30 cars in monaco which is impossible?! Its very unlikely we even get to 26. And the current safety rules dont even allow for more than 13 teams. So there is no way we get 30 cars in monaco or in any GP any time soon.
I think Michael would be a good Team Principle but I think he'll be more of a Zack Braun CEO type overseeing the Company and will have to hire someone to be the Team Principle. I think an advantage of having the main factory in Indianapolis is there are some amazing Engineering Schools in that immediate area Like Purdue, Michigan. I think a mixture of fresh American engineering perspectives and techniques mixed with some established British technical talent could really pay dividends.
I desperately want 2 new teams in F1. 4 more seats goes someway to solving the lack of opportunities for drivers graduating from F2. Guys like Shwartzman, Pourchaire, Schumacher, Doohan, Drugovich, Newgarden, Herta, Palou, etc. all deserve a shot ASAP!
Would love to see Danny Ric drive for Andretti. I think it’s a great potential partnership. Good experience to ground the team in the competition and plenty of avenues into other competitions when he does walk away from F1 (hopefully those days aren’t done already). Great video though and love how the livery manages to combine a lot of the colours of the logo but also manages not to be too busy. Looks great
I was already watching every video bc of the great content but man as a graphic designer, i know i've said this before, there's just so much more to appreciate about you work. you do it all and i fucking love it.
I think teams are scared more about competition ofcourse money is playing a part but think of it this way if the GM entry is approved then Ford will try to get in with Red Bull, then Hyundai would like to improve their brand by competing with legacy sports car manufacturers. Andretti-GM will create a domino effect
If there's a livery I would want on a poster this is one, what a fantastic job the best one you've done yet. I don't know if you want to do this Tommo but a brand I've thought off that could easily stump an F1 team would be Apple, with the rumors of their electric car in the production line and attempting to buyout McLaren circa 2016
one thing that might be seen on an Andretti F1 car would be a coloured highlight on a front suspension component, they do it a fair amount in IndyCar and it would be nice to see it in F1 as well
Newgarden is a godly driver however I think he would prefer to continue being a title contender in Indycar rather than be fighting for points in F1. Meanwhile Rossi seems to have a negative taste from his time in F1 and would rather stay in Indycar. My driver prediction is K-Mag and Logan Sargeant.
The race suits were very American style, very NASCAR. The car livery as well, looks like you could copy paste onto an Indy car or NASCAR. Very nice. 8.7/10 Colors weren't very unique but I think they were correct, not a knock on you. - An American.
Hyundai is a big name. For what the sonata. Oh yea just WRC..ppl gotta stop comparing them with Cadillac..NORTH AMERICA FEELS DIFFERENT THAN EUROPEAN PPL ABOUT CADILLAC AND HYUNDAI
I almost threw up when I saw the livery... entirely forgettable, and the eye will be stolen by brighter cars robbing sponsors. 1: Eliminate ALL black, replace with eye watering bright (florescent) white; 2: NO FLOWING Accents, all teams do that: HARD STRAIGHT LINES, RED/WHITE cut straight across the car, with blue and white stars in the back high up, with blue sponsors. Sending rendering... :P please try again, and think punchy, bright, in your face, unforgettable
F1 is too much of a business as opposed to a sport. It’s strange to me for a sports team to be opposed to other entries due to business interests. It’s a uniquely F1 thing that I can’t think of an example in other motorsports. Teams normally welcome more competition and expanding the sport as a whole since that’s what sport is all about. But what’s important is that Cadillac trying to promote itself internationally can only mean one thing, and the return of the Saturn brand
@@TommoMcCluskey The return of Saturn? In all seriousness I respect F1 for what it is. I watch it for the technological advances and engineering of the fastest circuit cars we can create rather than a lap after lap battle. In my ideal world Indycar and F1 would exists side by side as international racing series that are two sides of the same open wheel coin.
Herta/Ricciardo! .. I mean among this list arguably the most talented/ unarguably the most experienced. Immensely popular in the U.S , sponsors love him and (as of now) without a 2024 seat. As much as I’d love to see him in Sergio’s seat in 24 I doubt that’s a reality. Ricciardo Andretti 100%
If in 2025/26 it's heard that F1 is going to use V8 hybrid engines with Synthetic Bio-fuels, Cadillac WILL dominate. Cadillac's IMSA sportscars have been so dominant for the last decade, they haven't even been fair. Even after getting nerfed, they were still more likely to finish 1-2 than to finish outside of the podium.
As an American and a long time F1 fan, the way F1 says "we already have an American team, Hass" really rubs me the wrong way for a couple of reasons. To compare Hass to a Cadillac/Andretti collaboration is a joke. I'm willing to bet that If you ask 100 Americans if they know who Hass is that 90-95 would have no idea. I'd also bet that the opposite % would know who Andretti is (and of course 100% for Cadillac). Not to mention, unless F1 is WWE, any serious contender should be given a shot to compete. It's like "Red Bull is the constructor's champion, except against all the teams we wouldn't allow to join the sport". You shouldn't have to kiss the ring to gain entry. Andretti is speaking his mind against greed & (most probably) corruption. F1 considers itself an event more than a sport anymore. So sad. If they keep heading down that road F1's popularity will fall off a cliff. Especially with IMSA looking so promising this year... Sorry for the rant (kind of, LOL)! All the best, -E
I'm two chu-hi's and a beer in while watching this, so take all the below with as much salt as you think appropriate. Livery- excellent. Very smooth, very clean, easily readable (keeps the sponsors happier). Racing suit- same as above. Simple, easy to read. Driver choice- I think Magnusson stays Haas. However, I could see Newgarden/Doohan or /McLaughlin as primary drivers, taking Doohan or Schumacher as reserve. Maybe offer Schumi an Indy seat in Newgarden's place to keep in open-wheel racing. I can see Grosjean being offered a technical role as well. Not sure he'd take it, and I don't think he's getting back in an F1 car of his own volition, but being in a development seat for his boss' F1 team would make sense, given his time with Haas. Developing Doohan or Schumi would give Herta a seat to grow in to for FP1 sessions, which would help him get there by 2026.
Sorry mate but do you seriously not consider the Cadillac CTS-V with its 640hp Corvette Z06 engine, 6 piston Brembo brakes and Magnaride suspension a performance car?
I think your knowledge of Mercedes is slightly off here. The 190 E Cosworth was an absolute beauty and was as good as any "sporty" BMW. And while that ceased production in 1991, an AMG version followed it.
I think the Renault deal would only be until 2026 when the new regs come in and then Andretti would switch to a GM-produced engine with a Cadillac badge. As for the drivers, I think they could either nab Sergio Perez if he leaves Red Bull early with the second seat being either Doohan or Alpine's other junior Victor Martins (depending on who finishes higher in F2 this year). And other Andretti sponsors would include Avalanche (their present FE title sponsor), Powertrap (who sponsor Devlin DeFrancesco's entry) and Konica on account of their IMSA team-up with Wayne Taylor Racing. Also, there is no way Newgarden will go to Andretti F1 since Penske would pretty much block the move if he continues to deliver in Indy with them.
You can count on Honda NOT coming in 2024 as they just left the sport, yet again. Hyundai has big dreams, but, really? The teams opposing Andretti Autosports are scared to death of loosing to Andretti-Cadillac. Just take note at where Cadillac places in 24 hours of Daytona this year........
Wal mart money? They would destroy little Mercedes and Ferrari… get Elon in as well, not Tesla… but Boring Company. Space X. Wal Mart billionaires own 2 NFL Teams, NHL Team. They spend it
Best case scenario is They get in in 2024 with a renault engine, with a down the line plan to supply their own Cadillac engines. Would check out since they've just launched their new GTP/LMDh with a hybrid Cadillac V8 powertrain in it. Them returning to Le Mans seems like their planned first step of their badly needed global rebrand, the F1 project seemingly the next step.
I’ve lived in Indianapolis my whole life, I go to Fishers to race go carts and watch movies pretty often. I cannot believe there is a possibility that a Formula 1 team HQ will be so close! I’d 100% have to make Cadillac my #1 team. Sorry Redbull!!
There is an almighty depression coming. Do you not remember 2008/9 when all the manufacturers left F1 cause they couldn't justify the spend when the national public were suffering. Honda may come to F1 as a mulanufacturer, but they'll leave again when it suits them. Porsche won't arrive in F1. And the Cadillac deal would, at best be a marketing only deal. The current F1 teams should run 3 cars with all driversnscoring but only top 2 placed cars in a team score. Imagine the team orders between 3 redbulls or 3 mercs! Who wants to drive a renualt powered GM American entry.
Michael is a proper petrolhead and knows what he's doing. I know building an F1 team is another ballpark but he's build so much.. just look at the IndyCar and FE teams..
Penske will never let Josef Newgarden go from Indy/Penske ownership/ contract ! Funny nobody has mentioned the fact Andretti might just be considering leaving IndyCar altogether cause of it being owned, run by Penske who also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on top of that !! It's sad Toto Wolff has come out so against Andretti joining F1 but still wants all the American dollars that Merc can get their greedy power hungry hands on !! What is Toto and Merc afraid of ? Loosing the spot light and all the false premise that they're the best ever ? Easy to say you're the best when you've had a clear power advantage over the rest of the teams for as long as they did. Only reason they had that power advantage was the fact they strong armed F1 into using the hybrid power units after they already had been working on it for 7 years secretly. That was also how Nikki Lauda was able to convince Hamilton to join them. Hence why and only why Hamilton has 7 titles . That and the fact the only person Merc allowed to race against him retired (after his 1& done title) with Nico Rosberg ! They never ever allowed Valtteri to race Hamilton fully ! Now I'm in no way saying Bottas is on par with Lewis. But they clearly tied Valtteri's hands unlike Nico's! In hindsight they probably only allowed Nico to win cause he was a German Finn and they had to do it before they became so commercially WOKE and phony Lewis submerged himself into his SJW lifestyle and preached his vegan ways to all his followers on his social media platform ! Funny how he talks about being yourself but then says everyone shouldn't eat meat and we all need EV's now . Doing so as he gets on his private jet and flies to a Hollywood ,or sports celebrities party or whatever ! Let's not forget on a private jet one 3 hour flight admits more emissions than driving a average ICE powered car for a year ! Meanwhile Max makes no statements as such and spends most of if not all of his free time away from F1 with family. Lewis is more intrested in promoting his brand and Hope's of becoming a fashion mogul and hip hop superstar ! IMO you take the top 5 f1 drivers including Max, and put them in equal gokarts for a race . Max will destroy them all ! Lewis, Alonso, Seb,and Leclerc ! Just my opinion, I'm not saying it's a fact, or that you have to like it either
Expand. Expand. Expand. Have at least 12 teams or even more with a knockout qualifying of 24 drivers. That's a good number for grid and creates much more exciting races and qualifying. This label of turning F1 teams into franchises is stupid when you only have 2-3 top teams and they all have sister teams which will never compete with them. Other sports have 30 or more teams which guarantees at least 8-10 are going to have a chance in championship, plus no co-ownership and a draft system that rewards from bottom up to help turn teams around. F1 is majorly lacking in those categories so it would be ridiculous for them to close the grid as is and think the fan base will keep growing after the Netflix buzz dies down.
