I would love a Formula Ultimate, an event held every 4 years, where different teams from the different Formula's can design their ultimate car and race them.

The four wheels in front and back would add more weight then the gain the system would provide. And the reason Tyrell had 2 wheels in the front was so they had smaller wheels blocking airflow with about the same amount of grip. Eight wheels would also greatly increase the time in the pit and requiring more men in the crew. Covering the wheels would effectively make the more front wheels useless as the more wheels wasn't what increased handling, it was the downforce provided by air more easily going over the wheels. Adding a fan to increase downforce would also add more weight. The current aero equipment is already incredibly efficient to the point that most of this would slow the car down. Anyway thanks for reading this far but but things can be incredibly helpful on their own or in concept but counteract themselves in unison

Adrian Newey once designed the ultimate racing car without restrictions, It's called the RedBull x2010

Don’t forget to include a second brake pedal for the rear brakes like on the 1998 McLaren. These the cars use brake by wire with a front brake bias instead, but having a second braking pedal to keep the car planted in braking on the rear end would be massively helpful. Also, use a double chassis to utilise ground effect further.

I'm definitely intrigued by that CVT gearbox. People always vomit on it, but I always thought it could be very well suited for maximum attack.

One other small addition: Getting rid of the "pump gas" rule. Back in the '50s, Mercedes came up with a "witches brew" fuel, of 45% benzol, 25% methyl alcohol, 25% high octane petrol, 3% acetone and 2% nitro-benzine. This stuff would suppress pre-ignition and raise the octane to around 200. Another would be discarding fuel consumption rules, that limit total fuel consumed during the race. Use that with a turbo-supercharged V-12, call it 2500 HP. The G forces would kill the driver, but, hey...

Missed one huge part: Active aerodynamics. The rules say you're not allowed to have any moving parts that change your aerodynamics as you drive, with the exception of DRS. With active aerodynamics, you could use the air to turn the car in the corners, and you could constatly adjust downforce vs drag.

this car would actually shoot itself in the foot with the extra wheels as it adds a lot of weight not to mention that the tyrell was actually not that competitive and the fact that the weight of all the metal and computing systems would also weigh the car down

Where was your blown diffuser? the long tail plain the 2017 cars had? what about vented wheels too?

What about moveable aerodynamics? Things like a front and rear wing that can be put completely horizontal to increase top speed (sort of extreme DRS) or put at a slight angle to the car to increase grip in that way the corner is turning, like the Zenvo TSR-S

One thing I'll say about the engines, to have an engine that lasts race after race is not the best engine. Because the perfect engine will give up as you cross the line winning the race, If it doesn't then that engine hasn't been used to its fullest potential during the race and so you are not achieving all you could of.

I remember a Road & Track issue way back in the Tyrell 6 wheel car era. There was a sketch of how Porsche would build a similar car. The sketch was a car with 4 small front wheels like the Tyrell and 6 rear tires...3 axles, with conventional large rear tires. Only one axle would be driven(the middle axle) with the other two axles/tires there for tire grip only. It was only ever a concept sketch but it was by a Porsche engineer so I assumed it could work, but who knows. The theory was to get as much rubber on the road as possible...with enough horsepower to haul the weight of 6 large rear tires/wheels around I guess it was feasable. It reminded me of a steam locomotive with multiple axles, wild looking car.

Kinda disagree on the engine part. Hybrid engine are NOT around 1,000 bhp, it's not fair that we compred a single 900 hp V10 to a 1,000 hp power unit consisting of 3 engines. The engine produces 800 hp, so it's not the most powerful, although yes, more efficient but reliability is neutral. 200 extra hp came from the two MGU's. The ultimate F1 car should be unrestricted so maybe I cam suggest a build: So the engine is prolly a V24 or a V16 made of Metal Matrix Composites(MMC) or prolly Titanium. Then is has both twin turbos and a supercharger so that it doesn't lack power on both low end and high end, supercharger will be the one to carry on low end and turbo for the high end. The, it'll have Freevalve system so that the intake flow is much better and it has less parasitic loss. Also, I'm gonna add a few addition to ultimate F1 car, like an exhaust-blown diffuser, X-wing, F-duct, and wheel cover

I could have told you this back in 2010 when the Red Bull X1 was in Gran Turismo 5. Basically all you've done is recreate that car but added extra tyres & it took you 9 extra years to come up with it.

Don't forget to paint it with a tobacco sponsored (Free choice) livery for the ultimate F1 looks.

As a engineering student designing student formula cars this is pretty accurate

you forgot the wacky exhaust placement rules that are there to prevent teams from abusing the exhaust placement to further grip

Easy, massive ground effect and a turbine engine. A turbine engine is dramatically lighter for the same power, so you could easily get 5000bhp for a smaller and lighter engine. Ground effect is dramatically less drag per downforce. And whilst a turbine engine can't be throttled, the suction fan wants any excess power so you could easily rig the throttle to swap between powering the tires and the suction fan instead giving 5000bhp of downforce whenever the driver can't peg the throttle. It might be hard to drive, but the brute force would overwhelm any difficulties. Unfortunately nobody would be able to manage the forces involved, but that's another problem entirely.

You could also just refer to the Red Bull X2010 concept
