I think the hardest part on this removal was getting to the bees, and to do it, it was necessary to split a log in half, long ways, in order to expose them. However, with a bit of help from Julio, we got the log split, removed the bees, and then relocated them. All in all, a great adventure. God's peace to all.
Mr. Ed

I've got 5 natural log hives set up on my farm, with honeybees in them. I enjoy watching and providing them a natural cavity to live in. I get honey occasionally but really just enjoy their presence for pollination. I enjoy catching the swarms and giving them away or put them in another log. Thanks for posting another Friday video!

Mr Ed, I think that the original colony may have absconded and a swarm moved in after the tree was taken down and that’s why there’s no stores. I operated heavy equipment in my younger years and had to take several bee trees down for roads or buildings. Once the tree is on the ground within a day or two the bees would abscond and then I would take a chainsaw to it and harvest the honey. I didn’t know back then that I should have been saving the bees!

Having a variable-speed motor in a bee-vac machine is ideal. It is gentle to the bees, it is much quieter in operation. In addition to this, I believe that with a slower motor speed and gentle suction, that the battery will not discharge so quickly - you do not need to worry that the battery will be discharged before the bees have all been collected.

Why not leave them in the tree trunk? Move it somewhere else and leave them alone. Why does it have to belong to someone?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
There are many philosophies on keeping bees, and "ownership" is one of them. However, I prefer the term "steward," and regard my role as one of assisting the bees to prosper on their terms and not force my idea of how bees should behave upon them, which is why I do not treat our bees. Given that, why then did I remove the bees from their natural habitat and install them in a conventional bee hive? Had these bees not bee relocated, they would have starved and died over the winter because there were not sufficient stores of pollen or honey in the hive for them to make it. Now, they are in a bee box being fed, and their likelihood of survival is greatly increased. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Thank you Jesus! 🐝🇦🇺 I was wondering about the bees getting vacuumed. Is it a gentle suction or is gentle too slow? I have a lovely Christian friend who was very distressed watching them being sucked up. She usually watches a lady who scoops them up in her hands.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
Because the bee vac is designed NOT to harm bees because of it's low suction, the bees are not harmed. Removing bees by hand is a very good way of doing it, but even that way will result in the loss of some bees. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have a bee hive in the tree to remove just like what you did I know nothing about the bees how long they been in there all I know the owner called me up last month of the winter which is August here that he has a tree on the ground with bees in it,but at that time for me was not convinient to go take them out but I should be ok to go next couple of weeks but I don't have battery operated bee vac. Any suggestion please.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
You can simply take the entire log and bring it to your place, I have done that several times already. It is not absolutely necessary to remove the bees and put them in a box, so you do not need a bee vac. The video link below is one such video where I took the entire log with the bees in it, as well as vacuuming another hive from a tree. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 12 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 500 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video almost every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed

I have a couple of questions. How long after starting a cutout do bees remain defensive? I have a theory that robber bees will become a like a shook swarm if taken far away from the place that they were robbing, what are your thoughts?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
Generally, the bees calm down almost immediately. However, there are always a few that stay mad for a while. If only a few of the robber bees are vacuumed, they will become part of the hive. However, if to many are vacuumed , they will fight in the bee vac. That's why I stop vacuuming when there are to many robbers around. What happens if you have too many robber bees
@jimjordan5630
@jimjordan5630 Год назад
I would guess that they rob all of the honey and food stores and the "resident" bees would starve to death and the hive would understandably collapse. A healthy hive can defend itself against a few robber bees but not to the extent of the number that was in the cooler. And there were already hardly no food stores in that hive, it appeared, at least to my untrained and failing eyes.

the bees who have been here for millions of years know what they want are doing fine, now man has stepped in to do what is "best for them", their good life is over as they knew it.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
Mr. Ed

@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Год назад
I take special effort to capture all the bees that are from the hive. Still, in instances where robber bees outnumber the remaining bees, and I don't want to vacuum the robber bees as they will fight with the hive bees, I am forced to leave some behind. However, the few that remain behind will not make any difference to the ones that will be moved as we capture more than 85% or more of the original hive. Thanks for watching. God's peace Mary. Mr. Ed
