Hi Lisa and John! Been a subscribed lurker for about 3 months now and wanted to thank you two for reinvigorating my interest in the hobby! Got a betta with a 5.5 gallon starter kit for my kids a while back and your videos were the first that popped up when i was looking into improving things for him. Got a 20 gallon long and am working on a build that will be heavily planted with a, hopefully, breeding pair of apistos and a small school of dither fish. Thinking either glowlight or silver tip tetras. Have an awesome new year!

Bloodfin tetras are the most under-rated schooling fish in the hobby. I love them in large groups in planted set ups. And they also happen to be the cheapest fish you can find in my local area. I prefer the standard bloodfin versus the glass (transparent) species.

Merry Christmas to y'all and a happy new year 2024. I would use a 20 gallon long. I like it best because is shorter and best for my height. I would love to add blue galaxy guppies and mystery snails or just hillsteam loaches.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year! Just set up my first tank in over 20 years, a 20g. In it, there is 1 dwarf Mexican crayfish, a bunch of endlers, their ilk, snails and 6 panda garras. For now, things are working. When the garras get larger, maybe not.

lots of live Vallisneria, school of 12 - 20 neon tetras, cardinal tetras, or black neon tetras. When do we all get to see all these tanks? :)

John do what I did when I worked at Google fiber. Do micro trench it's about 3 ft deep, run your conduit to your house and tape a cable fishing rod to your cat6 ..run it to your setup indide the building . Easily to cover back up and conceal. Also if any issues it's even easier to fix or patch

I never had a problem with guppies throughout my life. But lately I also have been having a hard time with guppies. I think they are from the petco I go to. I talked to the manager at petco, and she said they have gotten a lot of returns on dead guppies for a while.

I am hoping to get 2 20 gallon long tanks here soon to use for breeding corydoras, not quite the same topic, but that will be what I use 20 gallon aquariums for next

I would go for Pseudomugil furcatus, and some shrimps :) Right now I have my Pseudomugil luminatus in a 15 gallon, and they're really happy there, but since the furcatus is a bigger fish, it seems like a good choice for the 20 gallon. I love the Pseudomugil-fish. All of them are so beautiful, interesting and easy to keep. Otherwise I really like the size of my 28 gallon aquarium. I've just put a lot of plants there and it's ready for fish. In there I will have sparkling gourami, celestial pearl danios, glowlight danio, shrimps and maybe something more.

Ugh! I hate that I missed this live! I am seriously thinking about getting a 20 long. In it …I want a bristlenose pleco, a large school of Pygmy corydoras, neon or ember tetra (can’t decide between the two) and a paradise fish. I don’t see a lot of information on the paradise fish but they are beautiful… Lisa I think you would like them, they’re a lot like the betta but like cooler water so the Cories and pleco should love this tank. Of course … sand, Amazon swords, jungle Val, crypts and lots of moss!

I have 7 emerald eye rasboras, 4neons,12green neons, 2 rummy nose tetras,6 assorted corys, 3platys,1 krib&growing out a gold serum with loads of plants . And its a great tank for watching.😉

I was thinking in the future to do one of the following. 1. one female Betta ,Bristlenose pleco and ember tetra or black neons. 2. African dwarf frogs with or without leopard danio what ever you advise. 3. Caudopunctatus 4. I've heard that you can put a panther crab in a 20 long. that appeals but i need to do more research.

I grew up fascinated with Cichlids watching my father take care of his 60 gallon tank full of them. I know I can't have those same fish in 20 gallons but I would start with a Male Apisto (Agassizzi Fire Red) as a centerpiece. I would add a school of tetras to fill out the upper area of the tank so I'd go with 8-10 Black Neon Tetra. Plant the tank and call it good with room to spare if I wanna add something later down the road.

I love this idea John. Last week I had 8 harleqiun rasboras, 5 Bloodfin tetra, and a Pair of Kribensis. As of yesterday I no longer have 2 Kribs. I counted at least 9 including the parents. I'm extremely guilty of misunderstanding fishtubers. I thought they wouldn't breed unless you set up a special tank. my tank is a 20 long. It's beautiful to see my new family but don't like to see my other fish terrorized. Not something I'd recommend.

I have a koi betta living with aboot 30 aphosemiom gardnerii killifish The fish i would pick for a 20 would be stuff that will survive in the water i have,my mains is about 6.8 and i have 15000g of rainwater plumbed straight to the fish room fo my discus but heres my list , all of these would be species only Aphosemiom killifish Clown killifish ( epiplaty Annulatus) Chocolate gourami Blue rams....or any other colour morphs Apistogramma Blue eye rainbow Luminatus rainbow Blue,tiger or scarlet badis Plants would be red root floater,anubius and java fern Now if i had hard high ph water it would be Synadontis petricola Tanganyikan shell dwellers( probably multis or gold Ocellatus

One idea would be to move the podcasts back to the fish room. Just dig a trench, run an ethernet cable, and get back in there... :). [Wrote this before a watched the whole thing. :) ]

Algae is caused by an imbalance between light, nutrients and Co2. Try to imagine it being a triangle. If you have a triangle with low balance on all three sides you won’t have algae. You can also have high on all three sides of the triangle and still have balance, and won’t have algae. As soon as one of those sides is the opposite of the other two, you start to grow much more algae. So technically having a low light but high nutrients and Co2 will cause an algae.
