Sorry, off topic again in the last post. These are EXCELLENT questions for Spain and, I really, really like ¿Cómo eres? because for a beginner, the glassy-eyes, ´uh huh´ folks, right? You´re trying to explain there are two forms of «to be». Everyone gets and gets stuck on «¿Cómo estás?», right. Oh, I know that one, next! Well, no. No, you really didn´t get the matter. These two questions really set the forever foundation of Ser vs Estar, because we have to make word salad in English to explain the meaning. Again, the word cachondo, my personal favorite! Isn´t that an excellent use for ser vs estar?

Sometimes, I hesitate to ask a question because when I hear the question in my head I think, «You´re totally giving away the fact that you are intermediate and not advanced». HOWEVER, then I consider my favorite books on the Spanish Past and Subjunctive, YOURS, and I think to myself, «What makes these books great?». In that you took something confusing and made it very simple to understand. So, again, I´m wondering if my breaking down something I see with my own eyes is intermediate or genius, like your books. Here it is, for better or worse. We keep saying that we do not have the subjunctive in English but, I´m 58. We do! I remember it, although it isn´t used much today because civility, kindness and manners are old school. Isn´t the Spanish subjunctive the exact same as I want that you might go, I hope that you may listen to me, I hope that you might prepare. May and Might. We have the same thing, only with Spanish, it´s not optional to have class. Que tengas suerte. May you have luck. Espero que vayas. I do hope you might come. English has corrupted itself in the last 40 years. Spanish hasn´t changed at all.
@LightSpeedSpanishChannel

Buena explicación, Merréll. El inglés sí tiene subjuntivo, como tú dices, aunque es cierto que en español se usa más :) Cx

Thanks Gordon and Cynthia, you'll be pleased to know I've just got 3 of your books from Amazon, but this one, a whole book on one verb does seem a little er excessive...I think we need more information!
@zeppelinmexicano
@zeppelinmexicano Год назад
A book on one word is not just about one word. Within you will find a universe of usages, and references to many other language parts, especially expressions. The one word is a door, and it's not just about walking through the door with memorization effort, but to be able to instantly feel the usages and use them in a conversation.

@LightSpeedSpanishChannel Год назад
Blot100, we cover not just gustar, but other impersonal verbs like gustar and we use them in every tense, so people get very familiar with its usage by the end of the book. Cx
