My main wish for 2.0 is a more granulated point system. I feel they are making it harder for themselves to balance stuff within the 40 point system. At the moment most faction have a best in each point categorie and the other units rarely see play. If you double or 2.5x it will give room for more variation and it will be easier to adapt where necessary. Seperating renly and Stannis side more is another I would like to see, different decks for a start. Let stannis be the control and retaliation faction and give Renly proactive knights that can storm into battle.

I am looking to put my thoughts together in a future article on Frontline Gaming. However a big one for me is a narrative themed game mode. A campagin hexcrawl league ish thing would be awesome and super enjoyable.

I’d like to see some houses get a few more units and their own deck. Factions like Boltons and Tyrells. Also, I’d like to see some restrictions on Neutrals, kinda like how Legion does it. So Boltons could only be taken by Starks and Lannisters. When the game first came out, and when new factions only had a starter box… neutral options were essential. But now there are so many units and new factions come with a hero box and a few units… I don’t see the need for such an open neutral system

100% agree. The existing Neutral system is too relaxed. Have never liked it. To your point, it made more sense early on, but there is a lot of stuff available now, and they have since altered their faction releases to include more sets at launch. Some folks have suggested cutting the allowance to 25% but allowing 50% when using a Neutral commander. I think that’s a decent start, but I personally would prefer something even more nuanced.

Agree. Yeah I usually bring a NCU that replaces a zone effect for this reason. Also one reason Petry is a good ncu.

@@barneytolentino5980 Daaaang so a 3-rank unit could lose 6 max wounds? Brutal, but I don’t hate it. The other zones typically have way more impact than a -1 panic test, which is pretty boring too. What if it was -1 to the panic roll per rank but just +1 wound? A more likely failure, but a lower 2-4 wound spread? When I saw the Hizdahr crown zone bonus that turns off orders for the round if the test is failed, I thought it felt about right. Or like if the unit fails it can’t be the target of friendly tactics cards, or can’t restore wounds for the round. Your rank based idea is better though if the panic test remains the only effect.

1.- better balance, both internal within the faction and external removing outbalanced stuff. 2.- better written rules, without need to go to faqs, forums, discords, community discussion. 3.- quicker meta renovations with subtle patches to shift things up. 4.- New game modes making a larger pool of them. 5.- better relationship with the community.

You want multiple revisions, even subtle patches, then in the next point you want 'better written rules, without need to go to faqs, forums, discords, community discussion', but you advocate for much more frequent updates. If you are going to write this stuff, at least be consistent. You want better balance, but look at the results at LVO, then compare that to recent Star Wars Legion tournaments.... You are firing from the hip without any sort of rationale, this is pretty much echo chamber stuff.

A proper seige scenario with an actual castle wall and gate to assault. Defender wall with enough spaces to place a standard unit of twelve. Assault ladders where miniatures can be removed from the movement tray and placed on ladder rungs similar to how Heroscape utilized them. A completely new and exciting option that fits the Westeros theme and story arc.

Love your points! Would love to see campaign booklets with narrative scenarios just like the journey books for Middle-Earth SBG for example. How awesome would it be to play through the adventures of certain characters and factions!

Points. Change 40pts games to 75pts but it is still the same amount of units. just increase everything across the board so that there is more room to balance abilties with points cost. Right now anything 2pts or higher will always be forgotten unless it has relentless

I have three main complaints that can't be addressed without making 2.0 release and i hope that we would get them at some point. 1. Make the game 400 points instead of 40. Additional points of granularity would allow us to have a more precise balance of units and attachments. Attachments are specifically a target of this update as right now we don't use most of them as they are overpriced for their abilities. This update will effectively allow us to have 0.5 and 1.5 attachments. Attachments are cool and i want to see them in the game more often. 2. Hire community and marketing managers CMON. FFS. This game deserves better communication with devs and on upcoming releases. Let us know what is in the works. Engage us. I shouldn't be scavenging Facebook or Reddit for some vague hints to know what will be released in the next couple of months. 3. Rule cleanup. What is considered "targeting a unit"? If my order makes my attack apply token does it make the target of attack a target of order? When does NCU claim a zone? Most of the rules for this game are pretty straightforward, but there are some real headscratcher situations. Properly updated rules and FAQ should clear these up.

What's the sweet spot? I don't mind Star Wars Legion's token level, but Marvel Crisis Protocol (not even on the board, just like... the overall number of different types) is a bit much for me.

Things I’d like to see in ASOIAF: • Point cost advantage for ‘themed lists’. Eg An all Stark army units would be 1pt cheaper if the Commander is a Stark, but minor house allies (Karlstarks, Umber, etc) would be normally pointed. • Faction keyword that means that hero’s abilities only work on their own faction. Eg Mormont heroes or attachment abilities only works on Mormont units. • Campaign system that included the ability to have asymmetric battles • The ability to subvert or convert minor factions, eg Karlstarks get bribed to desert Starks by spending VPs before the battle • Minor factions heroes ‘unlock’ those units. Minor faction units are otherwise unavailable. • Siege battles. All factions would need siege engines • Larger ‘Epic’ Battle sizes, up to 100 pts? • Rules for (including pre-determined army lists) for ‘historic battles’. Robert and Ned’s rebellion at the trident? Battle of the Bastards? • Variable unit sizes. Eg Small - 2 Cavalry or 6 Infantry, Medium- 4 Cavalry or 12 infantry or large - 6 Cavalry or 18 Infantry. Maybe even ‘Hordes’ - 8 Cavalry or 24 Infantry in a unit for larger ‘epic’ battles or for horde armies like Dothraki riders or White Walkers. • White Walkers, Brothers without banners, The Vale (and other areas) added as factions.

The game rewards players who have 8+ activations (Free Folk) and punishes those who do not. Certain base faction decks have aged like milk (Targaryens and Starks) and need a revamp. Some units have become way too reliant and pretty much are required for every army (flayed men and Petyr). I would also and personally like to see Warhammer 40K apocalypse style game mode for those who have larger collections would be fun to see more units but that's just a pipe dream honestly.

1 Keep the game as thematic as possible: - all unique abilities should stay only on NAMED CHARACTERS attachements or commanders (ex: boisterous charisma) - make all Named Characters (ncu/C/attachements) as close to their book character (ex: 1.6 Cersei/Walder/Joffrey feld more close to their lore characteristics then after 2021) 2. go from 40p list build to 100p by doublleing up the units/ncus point cost - but not for the normal attachements (ex: 1 Santinel Enforcer should stay on 1p for Tount - ability, but CotF/assault veteran will go to 2p for War Cry/ intimidating presence) Like that you can auto-ballance the point cost for units/ncus/attachements that feal like 6.5p/unit insted of 6 when you doubble up. you will find 11p units as you can find 12p or 13p for unit that today cost 6p That it will be so cool to see 😁 love the game, but is so hard to compeat against OP stuff… so, if possible, no more MoD/Starks 1.6/2021 Othell/Varamyr/2021.01 FF - kind of problems pls

@@OntheTableGaming if you double up the point cost and you round up some units/ncus/attachements, i don t see problem, in the dimension where you can have Ncus from 8p to 9, 10, 11, 12... Units from 8-9-10 to 16-17 to 19-20p If you agree to go to 100 p can also impact to a minimum point cost for unit/ncu, can we imagin a minimum of 10p each FF raiders/Poor felows can be 10p while Flayed Men 20p

I remember when I started playing, every game felt almost like a little story unfolding because you could really sense the characters’ personalities and skills coming through with their own mechanics. Moving away from that towards a more uniform application of recycled abilities and stat profiles *might* have been a decent trade had it streamlined the game significantly, but I don’t think it did. There are more weird interactions and rules questions/issues than ever, and while the game is very good, I think it lost a little of the soul that it had in the beginning.

Yeah campaign mode is obvious. That would add a huge depth to the game. I would also love to see some unnamed commanders. One thing i loved in Warhammer Battle was the possibility to create your own general and heroes way more than playing special characters. It really gives you the feeling that this is YOUR army and that you are writing its story all along the games you are going through. The game is supposed to be fanfiction friendly and there a lot of lesser houses in most faction or other way to dig in the lore in order for the player to propose at least his own army leader. That would also go pretty well with a campaign mode. I would also love for the Stark to have at least one elite unite that is not tied to a lesser house. All basic units are 100% Stark, but every stronger units belong either to a lesser house ( Umber, Mormont, Kastark, etc .. ) or an ally like the tullys. The Starks are supposed to be a major house. Let them have one or two units that show that "yes, the starks can be dangerous on their own".

What would you envision? It certainly has come a long way from its 2d6 take the difference in your morale in wounds days. If you listen closely you can still sometimes hear the cries of Free Folk raiders from earlier versions…

@@OntheTableGaming haha i remember those days. I think a panic defense stat would be nice. like, if it did so many hits, and you roll that many dice to defend individual wounds. So say my panic defense is a 5+, and i get 4 panic "hits" i can roll 4 dice to defend it

@@OntheTableGaming I saw once on the Fb group someone suggested rank-based morale stats just like the attack profiles. Thought that was a cool idea to further distinguish units from each other in terms of troop quality. So some units would just remain at the same morale at all ranks like Unsullied or faith based units. More standard troops might have their current morale stat as their second rank stat, with 1 better at full ranks and 1 fewer at 1 rank. Really elite infantry meanwhile might have the reverse and actually get better morale as they lose ranks, like the “Nightsong Defenders” had in that first in battle campaign. I don’t know how much value this would or wouldn’t add to the game, but it would be interesting.

@@OntheTableGaming the logistics of it would be kind of insane but if there was a way to incorporate scale model cities, there could be added a siege mode and civilian npc's, lots of options (too many). For the core of the game, absolutely all of those elements are to much for the battles, so the battles would become one game mode, as well as one aspect of a potentially large full continent game for whoever is either wealthy or creative enough to assemble all of Westeros/Essos/Whatever. Though its not meant to be cost prohibitive, it would just be a huge new rules expansion.

Would love to see a 2.0, and all 5 of your suggestions are welcome. I’d like to see a full rework of the terrain system. I’m not sure what I want to see, but a second edition would be a great way to make terrain more interactive and meaningful.

Ranged attacks getting more varied than just 6” and 12”. With the introduction of Frozen Shore Hunters we are seeing just how limiting this 2 range system is by forcing various missile weapons into only 2 range categories. Open the game up by exploring longer ranges like 18” for longbows and 24” for war machines. I’d also like to see a new terrain pack that includes different biomes and new sizes for forests. Even a shake up of scenarios like Here We Stand would be exciting for the game.

While I don't believe a 2.0 is necessary at this time, I'm not opposed to exlporing untapped design spaces. Doran Ncu gave martells an alt win con via the tactics board to score vps. What if Greyjoys had to option to turn in pillage tokens for vps as an alt win con? I also have enjoyed the new tactics board spaces when they have been introduced in the past and feel theres room to expand the design there. I'm also curious about more variation to the wounds units have. We already have a little variation with bear riders, and solos that break the mold of 12 wounds per unit, but it would be neat if we could overstrengthen units. imagine pike units going from 3 ranks to 4 ranks deep. or overstrengthened lannister guards unit getting 5 models per rank, 3 ranks, 15 wounds total etc. Now that is something that could be neat to see, on the table.

I want to see something that makes Armies with only 5 or 6 activations viable to play. Like allow them to reactivate units that have been activated but instead of a full maneuver they only shift and if attacking they use their lowest attack profile and cannot use tactics card and orders…. Oh and please nerf Mance Ryder!

as many said before, firstly a points system overhaul. Scale everything up x10 so finetuning of points is possible. With that unit attachments can also be revisited. The activations war is still way too important in my opinion so you are better off never taking any attachments (a shame to miss out on all that flavour and hustle that went into the design)

Given how they can change everything around now without a full 2.0, I'd assume it would bring in some sizable changes. So one also has to assume, they want some sizable changes if they do that. I'd expand the points system to out by x10, so a regular sized battle now would be 400 points, and the designers have a little more granularity in what things cost. Then I would expand the sides of the standard battlefield out so it's 6' wide and increase the standard army sizes to at least 500 points. You could expand the tactics board to six spots too, the spaces don't need to get more powerful, it doesn't have to be as prominent in the game. They created a nice, tight battle game, but I think if they wanted to change it to have more appeal to wargamers at large it needs to be a little less tight, the armies themselves have to be more important and the battlefield needs to come across more like a battlefield than the center of a boxing ring where you just smash into each other. Though that might be too much change for the people who already like it.

Hot take, but I think they should revisit the alternative list construction rules. It was poorly received, but I get the sense people are more willing to shake things up now than they were when that idea got floated. The timing wasn’t right then (CMON stuff), but given that people are asking for a Neutral allowance reduction, activation pass tokens, and more attachment play, there may be more tolerance now for stricter list parameters.

Restore GJ to pre S2. Make neutrals an actual faction that can compete. For example- when in a full neutral list, FM is 7/6/4. Have an actual tournament handbook/guide. Offer incentives for stores to run leagues (a la Friday Night magic). And finally- everytime BL says “FFOP!” He gets hit with an (empty) ranger hunters box.

I would like a rework to the points attachments are costed. Pretty much only 1 point attachments are playable other then 3 point Relentless. I’d like all 2 point attachments reduced by a half point. Also any unpopular units could be reduced by a half point until they are worth playing. 🤷🏾‍♂️

A balance patch and army size go to 50 pts for tournament. Less neutral pts allowed by army A rules of rarity. Force player not to play an army with all The same unit.

Don't agree with almost any if these changes. Don't want to be forced to buy more models to play or buy multiples of units. Maybe a slight increase in model count, but not much. And personally have no interest in a multiplayer format. That being said, one of my biggest desires is that I wish they would change the tray sizes. The trays are too big and clumsy, it makes maneuvering feel awkward and the fact there is only a single size any given unit can be makes the movement part too dumbed down. They should decrease the empty space on the trays between individual models to shrink them down and make units more maneuverable. This would, in turn, also make playing games with additional units more interesting, because as it stands, with 4-5 units on each side, the trays are so large there's not much room left on 4x4 for interesting tactical movement to matter. Beyond just changing the dimensions of the movement trays, units should be able to be fielded in varying sizes with varying configurations of trays. At minimum, infantry should be able to be fielded in 8/12/16, or 6/12/18 man configurations and Cavalry as 3/4/6. Much more than a large battle ruleset with an alternate tactics board, I would love a skirmish, model to model ruleset with more free form movement and a few customization options for heroes and warriors. That's also the best place for a campaign style ruleset. Mordheim-esque with warriors participating in tourneys, helping or hindering local villages, hiring services as sellswords, or protecting baggage trains as part of a larger conflcit.
