Dang. That’s pretty amazing how they were able to pack so much meaning into this. It’s also interesting how the Norse mythology ties into the real Hiroshima history so well. The rain in the video definitely makes me think it’s meant to reference Hiroshima, but they use the word Ragnarok which is kind of swappable with Armageddon or some type of devastating event. They both have a significant tree. And yet they’re tied together to fit the metal verse. What a brilliant piece of art!
@technosworld2

yeah, seems like the word "Armageddon" was the word to use in the 90's-2000's, and now the word to use is "Ragnarok", even though it's basically the same concept.

Moa backing vocal, for me, is there to brighten up the heavy theme, its like she’s cheering on su. Her voice is truly a smile ‘audified’.😊

Great content! "Yggdrasil", the sacred tree in Norse mythology, also represents the link among the nine different worlds. Does it sound familiar? 😊 To be honest, "Divine Attack" appealed to me more musically but this one got me from the lyrics perspective. It's fascinating!

Thanks Alan for the shout-out, and of course that goes all the way back to The One for helping me in some of those info. Globally you weren't so far with the feels and vibes on this song, so you did very well.👍 In summary: They're using the Norse mythology to narrate one of most horrible tragedies in the humankind history, Hiroshima and Nagasaki suffered this monochrome "fireworks" but she's giving us hope that if this war or any other sad moment (like the recent pandemic) is happening nowadays, the colors will be back.🦊🤘🌈

@@dicodec Recently KobaMetal tweeted "Never ending story ☔☀️🌈" and making again a connection with the "birth, death and rebirth" theme of others songs, like No Rain No Rainbow which have a strong connection with the Hiroshima theme especially the live at Legend S 2017 when SuMetal performed in her own hometown when celebrating her 20th birthday. But just to be clear they used NRNR at Budokan 2021 using as a theme for the pandemic situation we were living back then, so this could be a global message like i already pointed out in my original comment, and not only related to Hiroshima event.

A very mature Baby-Metal. The theme is hope and renewal after disaster. The obvious reference is the bombing of Hiroshima. There is also mention of Ragnarok. The clearing of the skies over the Earth most probably refers to the pandemic.

BABYMETAL touched on some of the same themes in the kamishibai (picture story narration) before 'No Rain, No Rainbow' at the 'LEGEND S - BAPTISM XX' concert. 'Monochrome' uses some of the same lines as 'No Rain, No Rainbow'. The two 'LEGEND S' shows were held in Su's home Prefecture of Hiroshima. DESPAIR 『絶望』 "The bright beam of light That wiped all light from the world Also ceased people's light of hope The skies turned dark And endless rain fell upon the people Who had lost all of their light and hope But endless rain doesn't exist And the people hope of black skies to clear out So the heavens can restore the light that had been lost They hope to discover that there's happiness at the end of sorrow And they pray for light of hope to return to them."

After a few more listens and understanding the background, a bit more, my opinion has changed! Initially, I thought it was a bit meh! I was totally wrong! Like when I first heard Elevator Girl as a throwaway, pop track and dismissed it, I didnt delve into the lyrics enough! Now that ive taken the time, I really appreciate it, more than my first few listens.

In my opinion, it is not only about the bomb in Hiroshima (I don't think the Japanese are so spiteful: if that's what the song intends to do, it will disappoint me as a Japanese), rather, about all the sad phenomena happened in the last moments. The recent case is the war between Ukraine and Russia, as thousands of people (regardless of nationality) suffer from "monochrome fireworks." The song is intended to offer a hope that people should not lose. I personally hope this group doesn't become political, just let us enjoy the music.
@chrisharris1522
@chrisharris1522 Год назад
To me That Monochrome Firework can only be one thing and the video is literally full of atomic mushroom clouds even the little girl with the umbrella is shaped like a mushroom cloud, there is also the fact that the firework falls down then explodes when it hits the ground, I believe the flower is also a symbol of remembrance for the bombing. Also Ragnarok is the English translation she sings Japanese, if they intended the actual Norse Ragnarok she would have sung that rather than a Japanese equivalent. But disagreeing on Babymetal lore and trying to make sense of it is half the fun.
@dicodec

@thegreentimtam
@thegreentimtam Год назад
The line is ラグナロクの黄昏に - Ragunaroku no tasogare ni. It's not a Japanese equivalent, it is Ragnarok. But the idea that a woman from Hiroshima would sing this song, with that imagery, and the connection to the atomic bombing never occurred to them is ludicrous.
@catface875

I really think Hiroshima because you see a missle drop from the sky then explode. Also a lot of destroyed buildings.
@paulos9900
@paulos9900 Год назад
There's even more to it than that. at 2:30 the explosion on the screen changes into a flower. The flower looks like an Oleander which was designated as the official flower of Hiroshima due to it's to it's vitality.
@tanamach
@tanamach Год назад
If that flower is an oleander, I feel that the angel in Divine Attack is Archangel Mikhail, the guardian angel of the Principality of Kiev. I feel Su is telling us to feel rather than assert. BABYMETAL's lyrics have always been full of metaphor.

Su-metal, the lead singer, got her start in a music school in Hiroshima.
@DKOILive

So, here is a theory. They are saying the new album is conceptual. Put away their inner lore for a second. Monochrome is a very clear allusion to Hiroshima. And divine attack.. well, if you assume it is an allusion to Pearl Harbour, then there is only one concept out of it - WWII But if not, and if Monochrome is actually a Nordic allusion, then Divine Attack can also be a reference to ragnarok - and they are on the horses in it - then the album is about Nordic Ragnarok So WHAT IF IT IS ABOUT BOTH?

I remember the first video where Eric was like check this band out and BABYMETAL exploded on your guys channel immediately. I really look forward to the rest of this album as well as your reactions. Sucks we gotta wait until January now for the next one, but I think they will have something planned for Su's Bday in December. 🤘🦊🤘

to me, i think what you say says alot about Babymetal. i watched a couple videos of a choreographer reacting to Shanti Shanti Shanti and one more and she describes how much the choregraphy is done to be cultural appreciative. i have a better understanding of that now seeing how much Babymetal puts into the dances and now you have shown how much they put into a song lyrically. like others now i can see a different side of this song and to me it makes it so much more meaningful. again i know i am speaking from a highly biased opinion about Babymetal but i do not think there is any other band out there of any genre that takes this much time to make it perfect, whether the music, the lyrics, the visuals, everything. to me now understanding this i can see why Babymetal touches people's feelings because they are giving us a strong positive vibe that our inner mind can pick up on. yes some of their songs are fun but if you get into the lyrics all have a good positive vibe and message and it cant help but make you feel better like in Brand New Day when Su says "it will be all right", you know it and believe it.

I was hoping for a guitar solo, in both songs. Don't get me wrong l, I liked them both and I doubt they'll release another "Tale of the Destinies-like" song, as it is my least favourite. But we could get some guitar solos from now on, right? I know it's a concept album, they're trying different things and all that. I personally like Su's new style of singing, feels more like her age. Just wish we could have a solo song for Moa

babymmetal has realy made me just not care anymore about their bs. If they drop a full album that siunds good I'll probably enjoy it. But they seem keen to make more distance from BM and the KAMI band and im just not into it without them. I'm sure they'll be in a few live videos but I dont think they paid them to be in the studio and I dont think they'll pay them to go on tour so I'm good. Would love to be proven wrong but management seems more concerned with NFTs than muscians
