Elaborating on what I wrote on the description, I love little details like having Ken, the kid that's desperate to prove to other people how mature he is, drink from a big ass black coffee mug when he's hanging out on the dorm, or how when you catch the main characters eating there it's always prepackaged food since there's no one but Shinji on the entire dorm who knows how to cook. Another detail I love but didn't put in the video is how the cat you can feed on the station's back alley gets comically big once you get it healthy. I also love how detailed the main character's rooms are on the recordings you can watch on the control room at the dorm, sadly I think they went overboard with the CRT effects on portable, so that coupled with the low resolution makes the details a bit too hard to make out. I really wish we could have a truly definitive official Persona 3 release, but oh well.
I agree Thanks to Portable we can't define any version as the "Definitive" We really need Persona 3 with all good things from both games The only time i think a remaster is needed
PSP version has the female character choice and storyline (which is great for people who are female to play the game and get the immersion) and also for simply making the game worth being replayed, since you will see how the world is if you were a girl (even the ost changes and it's still great)
@@cosmicfab7874 Closest we have gotten so far is people saying that through emulation they added in the ability for full party control in FES. Only issue? PS2 emulators are DEMANDING.
This games deserves a PROPER remake. P3P does the job (and It's sometimes cool to have a "fast" version of the game for when you've beaten it like 10 times XD) but, yeah, it's not the same. The atmosphere the backgrounds and the NPCs add cannot be captured in text form. Also, I feel like Japanese writers are normally... less than average when it comes to writing humorous dialogue, but they do good VISUAL humour and that gets lost in P3P. Elizabeth's scenes are great examples of some good comedy bits.

We may not be getting a definitive P3 version, but we got the new persona for mobile (p5x) which is a real persona this time and being for mobile it is the most accesible it can be
People who were "just waiting for persona 3 on pc", and got AI upscaled portable, need to realize how easy emulating ps2 is. Persona 3 fes emulated, upscaled, is great. You can also download it with party control mod, and japanese undub versions. You can literally have the HD remaster of the game with quality of life updates.
Unfortunately, my crappy office laptop is not capable of running a PS2 Emulator, and even a simple-looking game like P3FES runs atrociously on my hardware
Oh men, I was so let down, after playing P4 and P5, I was so hyped because everyone was saying that 3 have the best story, I was so annoyed when I realized that this version is a PowerPoint presentation and is not exploration, I dropped the game so fast, I waste my money.. but I will gave persona 3 another change when reload releases
Is this how the game looks normally? It still holds up pretty well, I wish they could have just just released fes on modern consoles without remastering it. Like yeah there's improvements to be made but I don't have a way to play fes so
I think it’s something to do with fes having a messy code so it was easier to port p3p(?) I’m not tech savvy so idk but it’s kinda clear Atlus didn’t put too much thought into the p3p port
@@Subukuru this was disproven, the most probable reason is because the engine the game was made was render ware, an engine now owned by EA that's not supported anymore, so, they would need to pay EA to release FES, and I feel like the newer team members would have difficulties using this older engine, so for Atlus was way easier to just port Portable, plus they get a pass on the lack of female protagonist, because of FEMC.
@@keip4568 More than that is that I just want to have the QoL changes that they added into P3P into something that doesn't feel like a glorified visual novel.
@@TheBaxes Atlus is doing ports of Persona 3 and Persona 5 on Steam, but damn right, hope they go the extra mile and make the "Persona 3 Perfect" with female protag with FES gameplay and P4G QoL changes 🙏
I want to play as femc in 3D... I want male mc to be able to max out his social links without cheating on the girls and to have social links with his male teammates... dare I say I want redrawn cutscenes... 😢
Luckily I never experience that as I heard talks about how annoying that charm can be on certain boss fights, so I just farmed narssiscus's flower as soon as I could
Having P3P ported up to current consoles over FES is extra embarrassing when you look at how P4G was the preferred version to port up for P4. I get that P3P has the Femtag route, but I wouldn't consider that a worthwhile replacement for gutting the whole game's presentation. Sure, it's fine for the PSP at the time (I guess), but I think we would all prefer a straight-up remake with Femtag as an option.
They choose a version an portable is the one with best gameplay and more extra content plus the answer in not very liked in Atlus team, plus fes is pretty buggy, they should remake person 3? Of course they should
@@kerresft8745 It's not really like the rest of Persona 3. It's like if Persona 3 was just Tartarus for like 20-30 extra hours, with bad grind and gameplay, and a bit of story thrown in. That's what I've heard, though, haven't played it myself, but even when I hear good things the people saying it always seem tentative about it, like they're not exactly shy about at least giving disclaimers about the gameplay.
>extra embarrassing when you look at how P4G was the preferred version to port up for P4 Uh, how is it embarassing when both P3P and P4G are originally portable enhanced sidemakes of the originals? P4G also fucks up a ton of presentation from the original, notably the Inaba fog.
@@LUKEYDIE a “definitive” P3 is not happening, they just ported P3P and called it a day. If they were gonna make a “definitive” P3 they would’ve held off porting the soon to be “inferior” P3P
@@insertnamehere2022I’ve seen some people say they ported P3P specifically for people to have option as a visual novel. No point in release fes if it’s being remade
I just have to thank you again. I'm like half way through the intro after emulating FES (added controllable battle) and I have to say this shit is so much better. the cutscenes make such a massive difference it's insane. as a first time player you saved me from making probably the biggest mistake with this game so yeah. thanks so much lol
The P3FES is the version that has the Epilogue of the game, it is the Superior version by Story progression and storytelling because like in the video you can see way more personality to some characters that way and of course the cutscenes are necessary for setting the tone of the game, some people seems to forget that the Male MC is the Cannon one, P3P is only good if you already experienced FES.
I’m kinda mixed on this. P3P has so many quality of life changes, the increased social stats on the arcade games, ease of moving around and so on. But I also kinda like having a 3D movable character, cutscenes and a living environment. Plus the FEMCs music, it’s like ughhh i can’t decide
I am really enjoying p3p but it is a shame that you can feel pieces of the game missing. It’s palpable that some scenes would hit so much harder if they weren’t just simple pictures.
For real especially towards the end *spoiler* in the scenes where makoto sacrifices himself or when he’s on the rooftop I missed out on a lot of the emotional impact
I really feel like p3p should dipped deeper with visual novel cgs. Like these cutscenes can just be drawn instead of just having text describing it. Or add some more character portraits.
@@Leeder87 oh for sure! Ideally I would’ve loved it if Atlus had made an ultimate version in the ps2 era style bc those have a lot of charm imo. (Or …yknow with a remake maybe
Man I remember playing FES almost a decade ago... As my last major playthrough of a game before i officially moved out of home and became an adult. This game will always hold a special place in my heart.
The scene were everyone is hanging out at the shrine during their last night is missing, that was very charming. Portable being ported was a huge mistake and sometimes I can't really fathom what goes through people's minds when they make decisions like this.
@scarletlotus7688 social links in Persona 3 are much more complicated than 4 and 5, in which not allowed to friendzone the girls to some extent. Portable is the closest to Persona 4 and 5 in terms of gameplay, quality of life changes and UI mechanics.
this title wasn't kidding i really was missing out wasn't i. had no idea what joys were kept from me. elizabeth on the elevator and on the slide are. incredible
Persona 3 FES is the definitive version, the only benefits of portable are the controllable party (a huge godsend at times) and slightly expanded features of some social links. Plus FEMC story is actually interesting. However, FES not only has all these animations. It has the epilogue story. Still there's one thing portable has over FES... The all out attack on Junpei at Yakushima beach XD
@ImPachoBlue I never said male MC didnt have exclusive social links as well. With FeMC though, you get to talk to the other two thirds of your party, which in my opinion, is way more important. You really only miss out on Mitsuru as well, so yes, it is a fair argument.
I knew something felt off when playing the P3P Remaster. I’ve played 4 and 5 but never played 3 before and thought I would give the new P3P remaster a shot but I was not aware of how gutted P3P was. It just doesn’t have the same effect without any of the animations. Hopefully we get a more proper remaster of 3.
I guess I was lucky by having p3p as my first persona, I ended enjoying it and I moved to the P4 just fine. I'm at p5 now and I enjoyed all my time with the franchise (I do miss the animations tho)
I was playing Persona 3 for the first time now, on the Switch. This 6 minute video is almost making me stop to play the Portable version and buy the Fes one on the PS3 online shop, for real
Do it, then you'll have both versions and can enjoy the intended experience with the 3D cutscenes, 3D explorable maps, and the story expansion in FES plus the Female protagonist, new social links, quality of life improvements and extra bosses in Portable
Ah yes, lemme just buy a ps2 real quick- I wish FES released on newer consoles like golden did. Oh well, there are always Kubz Scouts playthroughs of P3FES. That's just as good
Playing through P3P myself I will say that I don't mind the lack of 3D cutscenes as much as I thought, maybe it's because I'm more of a reader and don't mind adventure games/VNs but I do feel immersed with the characters and atmosphere. However I will admit that the game being designed with these cutscenes in mind does show at more times than others, especially with some transitions that used to be animated. Luckily a cutscene restoration mod has already been released for that! It's not my first time with Persona 3, that would be the movies and I have seen a FES walk-through but it's the first time I'm experiencing the game for myself which does make it just that much more sentimental since it's been a game I've been waiting on for quite sometime. One little detail I will remember from FES tho is the maMC doing his lil run towards Kazushi in their social link at the train station...oh and Elizabeth's ridiculous coin wallet. Which, thinking about it, does make me a little sad that these kinds of small moments won't be in the most accessible version even with it being sort of insignificant in actuality. On the other hand the feMC and her social links really does enhance some characters by offering a new and fresh perspective. And her route being designed for the Portable edition makes it feel much more at home than the maMC's route.
If the rumors are true that an ultimate P3 remake will be announced this year with 5s graphics and style of gameplay i hope they don’t change the comedic timing of the animations. The teacher dropping the book and running away had me dead😂
Just finished Portable and honestly I regret playing it. Not having the animated cutscenes and walking around the town, really made the game much less impactful.
@RAYHAN REHEMA PUTRA I mean from 3:37 I'd say this looks better than anything in inaba. And i prefer the school too. Its fitting for inaba as it's meant to be a boring place in the middle of nowhere but I still think p3 does look better tbh (P4 portraits are generally better though)
@@amaterasu3325 They really did nail the lighting or the filter or the effects or whatever you want to call it, the sunny effect just looks better in P3, in P4 it just looks so bright and offensive, though I do still really like how the effects look in P4.
Crisis Core was made solely for the PSP and it's not a PS2 game. NFS: Most Wanted 510 lacked free roam and story mode. P3 is originally a PS2 game and never a PSP game until in the later years. P3P is taken from original PS2 to make it into a PSP game which is a downgrade which is why there are no 3D environment (except during dungeon exploration), no anime cutscenes, everything turned into visual novels. The Answer got removed because due to lack of storage space in the UMD. Even the PSP version of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 got downgraded with the removal of several maps and no story mode. Imagine if Final Fantasy X and Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater turn from PS2 games into PSP games. The games would have tons of removal stuffs to support the PSP hardware and the UMD.
@@player2-lightwater914 I guess you're right in that regard. If anything, I don't think it was a good idea on Atlus' part to make only the Portable game with full control. Apparently (from what I heard) the idea behind that was that they wanted to have characters that felt more like themselves given the theme of the game instead of being extensions of your control and as such you were being a "leader" to give them orders (naturally not everyone follows orders irl) but unfortunately if that's the main reason? Yeah, it doesn't gel with me considering I have NEVER aspired to become a leader in any capacity for anything. Namely because if I lead a team, most of the time it just feels like I say "ok, do your thing but be sure to support me every now and then!" and I don't feel like that translates to good RPG game mechanics especially when it feels so close to a certain Battle Facility in Pokemon Emerald (looking at YOU, Battle Palace. Seriously, how did Game Freak even think that letting your Pokemon fight according to NATURES was a good gameplay mechanic?!)
I love how this whole video is just in game scenes. Doesn't even come close to mentioning the Answer, which is not only more Cannon than Femc, but was also interesting from a game play perspective. I do have to say, it's baffling that they remastered P3P instead of Fes. It just feels too weird for the other games to have so much personality in the daily lives of the characters, and then have P3P have almost no models, and a huge lack of content. This even goes as far as the hot springs scene being basically neutered. If they really want to promote P3P, then the best they could have done was make the male route be FES, and then have the Female route be the visual novel. Of course, this absolutely mandates the necessity of the implementation of the Answer, especially how much Persona Arena is being pushed. Without the answer, much of the inclusion of the P3 cast feels weird, and also doesn't account for Aegis having access to the Velvet Room.
im basically done with p5s base game stuff and about to hit royal but recalling the visual presentation of p3 and p4, it felt like p5 stepped down a lot of times on making visually fun and wholesome segments as well as funny confidant parts. i remember p3 having some mature yet fun stuff like mitsuru burger and the entire elizabeth arc while p4 really act like high schoolers who throw out comedy at every corner. just wished p5 did more of that.
I really hope so too, and it seems like it could happen, I've seen some work in progress P3P mods for that already and while they're still very unfinished, the fact that something might be possible for that excites me. I really hope that eventually the entirety of P3P can be in 3D (and maybe even The Answer getting ported as well). FEMC will be really rough but someone can probably find a way to do it.
Just emulate the game and stop being n utter consoomer throwing money at corporations and simping for them when they dont give a dam about you. And yes there are limits on modding.
Im slightly okay with them removing 3d animations despite it working just fine during combat. But the fact that they removed 2D CUTSCENES is completely beyond my understanding
I finished the P3P remaster like… 15 minutes ago and adored it, but looking at the FES gameplay I wish they had remastered that instead! Oh well. I still really really loved it, even if I would’ve preferred FES in hindsight!
I am glad for the remake, but it seems like it won’t be the definitive release also, sadly, as we have no female protag, and no answer after story, again for some reason, I don’t understand the point of making a remake if they won’t put all the content in it. Though I suspect they may release another version of p3 later that actually has all the content, so they can sell it to us twice.
My friend just got through telling me how while it is nice to have the portable version, there's really no reason why they couldn't give us the fes version or merge that version and the portable version with some of the improvements to make an overall definitive version. Because now it just looks off when compared to say persona 4 golden and persona 5 Royal. Hopefully we should get a remake but looking at these they missed out on a great opportunity to give us a Persona 3 Definitive Edition.
Pretty sure that the reason is the engine for p3 fes or something. It's not that they couldn't rerelease it for technical reasons it's more that it's legally not ok I think.
@@MrDarksol true, could've at least put a minimum amount of effort into it. Smt 3 had a port that not only added voice acting but actually allowed you to assign skills to personas when fusing them. Kind of absurd they didn't at least add that onto portable + the animated cutscenes.
@@cooltwittertag I'm just saying if we were able to get nocturne perfectly fine then at the very least remake Persona 3 if all you are going to do is just be lazy and give us the PSP version.
1st time playing Persona 3 and it was the Portable Version on Ps4 and I had no Idea that there were Character models and actual explorable locations in FES like in P4. I can't get it for ps2, so I'm just gonna wait for the remake, because after P4 and P5 it's just painful to play through. Edit: I'm stuck in Tartarus with this stupid statue 🗿🌪️
so FES has actually 3d charecters and movement yeahhhhh i was wondering about that . why didnt they remake THIS game instead of the portable version? ugh
I love that Door-Kun just stands around with his hands in his pockets 99% of the time. Completely unphased by Liz doing the Macarena or Toriumi having a breakdown.
One bit you forgot to include is one moment in the betrayal scene when Koromaru leaps in to take the remote away from Ikutski, that part of the scene has been removed entirely from Portable. While I do understand it being difficult to recreate in visual novel form, but they could've at least make a new portrait of Ikutski holding the remote, much like the new character portraits of certain characters holding guns, and show the bit about Koromaru snatching the remote away as a still image from the original anime cutscene.
This is why I will not be buying P3 until we get a true remake of FES. Persona 3 was a huge part of my childhood, and these scenes give most of the charm to it in my opinion.
Regardless of it's QoLs, P3P is an incomplete version of P3 story because the game does not have The Answer which is canon by the way. P3FES is the complete version of P3.
Possibly hot take, I always felt like P3P was missing a lot of the soul that the original and FES had...and FeMC just isn't enough for me to choose P3P over FES
I can't believe Atlus ported the Portable version instead of Fes to PC. I understand that portable got the female MC, but Portable is still half the game Fes was. At least port both versions and let people pick which one they wanna play.
I just started playing P3P recently and never understood why Fuuka's whole social link was about her wanting to learn how to cook but she NEVER cooks in the dorm! I like some of the social links but some are a waste of time and some are absolute garbage.
playing right now the p3p with the 2D animation cutscenes mod and it's ok but after p4g, p5r and p5s I miss this element; as I already like enormously the tone of p3 and the story already I will redo a fes walk-through immediately after, I have to
