This is a pretty soild comprehensive guide about how to build omnitanks in this day and age. I remember seeing a lot of people clamoring on Reddit and other places about how "tanking is dead". My response to those doomers was, and will always be: "Tanking isn't completely dead. You just have to know your game. This isn't like in 2020 where you could throw Bike at AR-D balls and write off anyone who wasn't packing an AoE Special, but outside of stuff that has scaling preemptive damage, it's mostly doable to tank most nukes depending on what your setup has." That said, I'm honestly surprised you forgot about including DR piercing as an essential component for an omnitank. This is actually pretty important, especially for slower tanks who cannot hope to outspeed many of these faster nukes (and don't bring up auto doubles, most fast nukes have NFU), many of whom carry 50+% first-hit DR stacks. Having DR piercing is particularly important in the Gullveig matchup if you're running a slower unit, as while she isn't too dangerous on the surface (her flat damage is mostly manageable and she has no innate piercing), if she gets the chance to self-refresh (which is easy for her to do thanks to her 70% first-hit DR), the amount of cumulative melt damage you're taking from her is at least comparable to what L!Cam is dishing out. While I'd rate DR piercing in the same category as stuff like DC, DR, and regen for slower tanks, it's a bit more discretionary for faster tanks, since the DR these nukes have only applies to the first hit (or the first two hits of a brave weapon). As for where you can get DR piercing for your tank: - Special Spiral 4 confers DR piercing to any offensive Special the user has. - No Quarter is a DR piercing Special available to any non-armored melee unit. - Tier 4 Null Follow and Tempo skills have 50% DR Sundering baked into them. - L!F!Alear confers DR piercing to any offensive Special the user has, provided the user is supported with her and she's on the map. - L!Cam confers [50% DR Sunder] as a [Bonus] effect to anyone within 2 spaces of her at start of turn. Note that if you aren't outsourcing your piercing, running it does come at a not-insubstantial cost to durability. If running Spiral 4, Phys/Mag Null Follow, or Tempo 4, your tank is sacrificing as much as 50% DR, which can greatly reduce your unit's survivability. Running No Quarter can also negatively impact your bulk if your tank was relying on a Special like Aether for sustain, but given that skills like Finish and Bulwark confer ~7 HP chip healing, and chip healing can also be outsourced (Gatekeeper, Celine, L!Guin), this isn't as big an issue as you might think. Have a nice day.

Honestly i would add penelty neutralisation, NCD and dr piercing to the list of bare minimum effect. There practicly the priority 1 effects you should give to an omnitank if they dont have that in there basekit. You aint surviving sanaki without penelty neutralisation, you need dr piercing for the 50 Dr nukes (Ivy, Yunaka, Gullveigs, kvasirs, Claude, Kagero etc...) and need ncd for lyon and even with ncd lyon is hard to survive. I can confidential as a owner of a max invest L! Corrin say that is still posible but these effects are ESSENTIAL. For a team example in ar-o i use gerik to negate peneltys, L! Camilla for dr piercing and R! Plumeria to stack penelty doubler with Camillas sabotage and for dodge form rockslide dance. It gives all important effects that are possible to outsource and gives a massive stat swing.

Personally I think the best omni-tank in the game right now is still N;Altina. Her weapon lowers foe stats instead of raising her own, her Prf special has no real competition vs any inheritance option (1 CD Special DR% and Special DR% piercing) and is incredible for having special DR% for all hits instead of just one. And she ditches spd for every other stat. Which imo is just great, because it means she won’t be a victim of speed creep. And she’s just plain and simple really powerful, DC, Brave, and Scowl all in her weapon basically free her other slots for whatever she feels like. She’s resistant to scowl effects because she stacks her own res, she’s more resistant to lyon than most because she can win the res check, and she doesn’t buff her atk as much as others, meaning lyon doesn’t chip her as much and she has more hp than most. Personally I tend to run her with lumera support and she’s just incredible in those situations. She’s definitely not unbeatable, but I do actually believe that she is the best omni-tank vs lyon rn.

@@andrewnguyen664 If Dimitri had some form of DR piercing, he could easily flip the Gullveig matchup. Gullveig is only really dangerous if she's ever allowed to self-refresh; if you can one round her (and thus prevent her from self-refreshing), she's otherwise pretty manageable given that her preemptive normally maxes out at 14 and she has no innate DR piercing. Of course, given her 70% first-hit DR, this is easier said than done, and unless you can outspeed her, you're going to need to run something like No Quarter or run L!F!Alear/L!Cam support to get around her DR. It's surreal to think that tanks, especially slower ones like B!Dimi, need DR piercing to be viable, and I never would've thought as such a year ago. But given that IntSys seems to love randomly giving nukes 50%+ DR stacks, it actually does become pretty necessary. Have a nice day.
@andrewnguyen664

@@darkandroid125Unfortunately, I don't have a way to give Dimitri DR Piercing, I also don't have a lot of other useful supports for him like rally spectrum from the new Robins or even attuned Peony. So I have a very limited stock of units to work with. I wouldn't be surprised if someone found out a way to survive multiple nukers with Dimitri but most likely they have access to much better support units and fodder than I do. As it stands right now, Dimitri is my best tank and even he cannot survive the best offensive units in the game right now.
@darkandroid125
@darkandroid125 7 месяцев назад
@@andrewnguyen664 To be fair, I am sort of in the same boat. My Brave Dimitri has been sitting in limbo for the past few months now because he can't reliably deal with most nukes that have come out recently and I'd need to overhaul most of his kit to make him PvP-worthy again, and most of the fodder I'd need to do so, I do not have (I do have No Quarter available, but no good way to replace his sustain since I lack access to Finish or Bulwark skills right now; he's currently running Bracing Stance and his prf B with Noontime for sustain). Things are actually so bad for slower tanks right now that I have largely phased out of using them and have turned to using godswords for most of my AR-O omnitanking purposes (the DR that most nukes employ only applies to the first hit, or the first two hits of a brave weapon; a tank that can double those nukes can easily ORKO them due to lacking follow-up DR). The only slow tank I even currently use these days is my Brave Ike, and even there, he needed Spiral 4 to be able to do anything with Gullveig, Kvasir, and other nukes that use DR stacks for protection (thank god I just so happened to pull a pitybreaker Citrinne right before Gullveig's banner). Have a nice day.

very cool guide, definitely gonna watch this later when I start building some more units. what are some big support units you would recommend outside of the direct counters you listed in the vid, and what units would you recommend if you were building a L!M!Alear or the new attuned Caeda?
@habilucajericho
@habilucajericho 7 месяцев назад
I consider L!M!Alear to be the best omnitank in the game right now, so he doesn’t need much aside from giving him the essentials he doesn’t already have like NFU, Lull, penalty neutralization, Bonus Doubler, etc. NCD4 is also a solid choice for him so he can take on Duo Lyon. As for A!Caeda, you would build her exactly like a Godlance. Her kit really only lacks Godlike Reflexes, so supporting her to precharge it like with Duo Askr will definitely help. NFU is easy to give nowadays, or you can just give her INF4. Just make sure you find a way to loop Godlike Reflexes and she will do very good. In addition to that, same thing. Give her the essentials she doesn’t already have like Lull, penalty neutralization, Bonus Doubler, etc.

I can go further back than that. I've been using my Brave Ike since 2019, and while he can't be used in quite the same braindead way I used him in 2020, I'm honestly surprised at what he can still live, especially with the support options I have available. His prf is admittedly pretty ancient by today's metric, but his 80% consecutive-hit DR and forced Desperation effects are still extremely rare (the only other unit who has a similar effect is Gotoh), and not only does the 80% consecutive-hit make him a decent check to Desperation users, the forced Desperation effect can outright flip some matchups (i.e: Duo Shamir's schtick is to eat a counter from a tank with her 51% DR, then follow-up with a Brash-boosted Deadeye proc that cannot be intercepted by Guard; Bike forces her to perform her follow-up before he counters, thus avoiding a Deadeye trigger in most cases). BTW, here's what I currently run on him, and what support I use (and before you ask, he's +10, +30 flowers with a resplendent): Weapon: Urvan (+eff) Assist: Reposition Special: Aether A: Dist. Ferocity B: Special Spiral 4/Null C-Disrupt 4 C: Def/Res Pledge S: Def/Res Form 3 X: Guard Echo Spiral vs NCD is pretty map dependent; if I'm about to face stuff like Gullveig who are sitting on 60+% DR stacks, I'll use my Spiral setup; if I'm facing [Flash] staves or units like L!Hinoka who have sweep effects, I'll use my NCD setup. My only gripe is that he can't run piercing and NCD in conjunction, and until a unit who can drive NCD comes out, if I see something like a Gullveig + L!Hinoka setup, I'll just use one of my godswords instead. As for his support, I commonly run him with Veyle (drive scowl/DR) and B!Fjorm (drive null penalties) in astra season, and he's running with Lumera (Divine Vein support with drive Null Guard and Ruse 4 support), Flayn (drive DR), and Peony (grants [Null Penalties] as a bonus) in light. In Chaos is where things get interesting; not only do I run both Veyle and Lumera in Chaos, I also run Freyr, who can shut down almost all start-of-turn debuffing effects (Dream Deliverer in particular turns Duo Sanaki from one of the scariest nukes in the game to free real estate; since the debuffs she relies on for her flat damage and DR sundering cannot be applied in most circumstances). Have a nice day.

Only thing I think you missed out on is that nukes now have a lot of Damage reduction themselves whenever they initiate combat. So equipping your Omnitank with DR piercing from specials such as No Quarter, using Phys NFU or LCamilla support is very good on Tanks in order to counter those nukes that have DR Otherwise very great and simple to understand video!

I would say that a counter to melt damage is vantage Winter Dimitri and Brave Marth has it Also its funny to have vantage winter Byleth just to counter Lyon
@darkandroid125
@darkandroid125 7 месяцев назад
Vantage isn't as much of a counter to preemptive damage as you might think. This is because Vantage checks its HP condition at start of combat, and given that preemptive damage occurs "as combat starts", getting hit by Flared Blows, etc, won't trip it. That said, if you already are in Vantage range, or are using an HP-agnostic version, such as the [Vantage] status or Brave Marth's weapon, then Vantage is indeed a check to preemptive damage. That said, Vantage isn't a hard counter because Hardy Bearing automatically shuts it down and unless your Vantage user has access to NCD, counterattack denial effects also shut it down (this is important for Duo Lyon). Have a nice day.

While I appreciate the effort and video, the reality is tanking in general is dead and IS wants it to be that way with the units and mechanics they keep releasing. Could it still be done in theory? I'm sure it could but it's a massive, uphill and losing battle in the long run as they will keep releasing new mega offensive units that eradicate tanking strategies sadly. Especially if you're free to play, you are going to pull your hair out after a while trying to succeed competitively with just Omnitanking.
@darkandroid125
@darkandroid125 7 месяцев назад
Yes, tank strats aren't exactly in a *great* spot right now, but, if I'm going to be honest, to say that tanking is completely and absolutely dead is *not* accurate. Sure, you can't just throw an unsupported omnitank at AR-D balls like you could in 2020, but to be honest, outside of units with scaling preemptive damage (which is pretty much just limited to Cam and Lyon, and not every AR-D setup will feature one of those two, even in vault), it's perfectly doable to tank most other modern nukes, given the tools available to players at the time of this writing. Of course, I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who does spend on this game (I'm not a whale, but I do occasionally buy orb packs to supplant my F2P supply), so my advice might not necessarily be applicable to F2P players. As for the whole scaling preemptive thing, I do honestly think that it is a massive problem, and of all the tools that nukes have at their disposal, it's pretty much the only one that sometimes makes me doubt my stance on tanking. But I'm sure that IntSys will release a counter to it within the next few months, much like they released checks and counters to pretty much every other tool that nukes have access to. The question is: what would a counter to preemptive damage plausibly look like? Have a nice day.

Alrighty, so if I'm running the most generic build possible on Nephenee (Arcane Luin + Atk/Spd Finish 4 + Buffer 4 + Atk/Spd Pledge + GLR and that DC seal) that's, what, vaguely approaching bare minimum?
@darkandroid125
@darkandroid125 7 месяцев назад
A generic godlance build like what you described would fulfill the bare minimum of what is expected of a fast omnitank (Luin grants lull spd/def and NFU, Finish provides chip healing, GLR and Buffer provide DR, Dist. Counter (M) provides exactly what it says on the tin, etc), but given you're only working with +25 effective spd from skills, you'd need some way of boosting your tank's effective speed (either through buffs like drives, [Resonance Blades], etc or through debuffs like Ploys, Ruses, etc), on top of the other crap you need, such as [Null Penalties]. Have a nice day.
