Hey ! You said you used this for tog fishing so I wanna buy this for SPJ but also want to see how well it does tog and sheepshead fishing too. How did thst work for you and what setup?

Hey MouaFishing... thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in... I absolutely love this thing for tog... just caught a few big 10 pounders (3 in a row) right before the season ended here in NJ. Works like a dream. Never caught a sheepshead with it, but if this thing can handle a big taug in a VERY sticky wreck it can whip a sheepshead. For Tog I'm either using the HG or PG 1500 (I would prefer the PG for bottom fishing (like tog where you need the extra horsepower) and HG for faster speed jigging (amberjack, tuna, etc). For Tog I use 65 pound high viz braid (any brand honestly, but I was using spider wire and suffix on my reels), with a 60 or 65 pound fluoro top shot. Rigged to a slip rig or stinger rig (5/0 hooks) and 10 oz of lead for high current at 65ft depths. I often use a custom rod, but do like using the shimano trevala's, teremars, the tsunami slow pitch jigging rods are great, AND of course the Jigging World Black Demon Jigging Rods. Always happy to help, let me know if you have any additional questions or comments.... Thanks so much!!

Good stuff as usual! This reel is so damn awesome I was figuring out a way to sell my Komodo 463 I use for deep tog fishing to get one 😂

@@Johnnyfishalot it’s absolute beast of a reel that worth every penny, but I hate having a 300$ reel just sitting there collecting dust. I was actually considering getting the OJ low gear for deep wrecks but you had a good point here in regards to the retrieve rate. Thanks for the amazing content as usual!

@@bebocarbon Heyyyy... I love all the feedback, thanks so much again for your comments... I would say this... A lot of this is up to personal preference, as is everything with fishing, IF you are just looking to deep drop with heavy weight down to deep wrecks a slower gear ratio with more power may be what you are looking for... if you are jigging with a lure and you need to catch up quickly to a fish that massacres your lure at high speed... that's where you need the high gear ration (the HG) version of reels... I fish 300ft rockpiles for seabass withh 2-3 pounds of wieght and I use the PG styles of reels for this as I need the extra power to deal with all the weight and the fish... The OCEA Jigger comes in both, so it really just depends on your fishing application... Best of both worlds is that Talica (WAY MORE Expensive and for TUna though)... that reel comes with both PG and HG gears, so you can switch between the two... I hope that helps... and I didn't confuse you.... hahaha let me know if you have any questions... I'd hate to see you spend 500 buck on a reel then it not be right for the type of fishing your doing... Avet and MAXEL make WAY more affordable versions of these reels for deep dropping by the way... good for striper trolling too, as you typically don't need speed for that... anyway... again, hope that helps.

Really informative video. I was looking at a saltiga but I think I will get this instead. I was wondering what pole you would pair it with for tautog fishing on wrecks

The Gomexus seems to be better in every single way, expesially the price. The Gomexus is a lever drag, which some people don't like, but I prefer it for fishing from a boat or kayak. Is there something I'm missing about the Shimano? Also, that reel is $280, not $500+.
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 10 месяцев назад
Hey Tedrutkowsky... Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment... I have to be honest and say I have never fished with the Gomexus and so I can't (honestly) say if I think it is better or worse than the Shimano Ocea Jigger... but, I will definitely ask around the crews I fish with and dig into it a little more. Have you also fished with the Shimano Ocea Jigger and you just didn't like it?? I honestly don't hear too many complaints about the reel... Again, I have never fished with the Gomexus and so you have me really intrigued here. The Ocea Jigger is SUPER expensive, there is no doubt about it, but I will say if you buy it from the Japanese directly on Digitaka you can get it for around $280... How long have you been fishing with a Gomexus? Really curious now... haha Thanks so much again for the comment. I really appreciate it... I'm always up for learning something new ;) Hope you had a great weekend.

Great video, but you can never compare a spinning real with that real they will never even close.
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot Месяц назад
Thanks so much for the comment and for tuning in... we do use offshore spinning gear as well... these days that spinning gear is super light and holds a ton of line as well. I guess it just really depends on the gear your using and how you are fishing. Thanks again... hope this helps. Glad you enjoyed the video... I do have to say spinning or conventional very few reels are as good as this ocea jigger it is one of my favorite reels by far!!!

Thank you for the info. Can I do beach casting with this ? Can I use mono line type ?
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot Год назад
Hey Yair, thanks so much for watching and the comment/question. To answer your question directly.... absolutely to both... However, I would say its not really designed for casting long distances from the beach... while I have seen many folks use custom rods on the beach, if they have to get lines way out there (shark fishing for example) they will usually use a boat or kayak to get the lines way out there... if your fishing like that, where a lot of line is being placed out to sea from the beach I would say go for it.... but, given the price of the reel, I'd say your better off with a much cheaper spinning reel set up for casting from the beach. As far as mono goes... sure thing... You can absolutely put mono on this reel, for line recommendations it really just depends what kind of fishing your doing... If you need a lot of shock absorption to your line then mono is best, but if your looking to get a lot of line on the spool with increased sensitivity for bites, then braid is the best... Hope this helps... let me know if you have any further questions... thanks so much for tuning in.

Compared to a 3k spinner 😂 and don't compare to a Talica with 40lb drag

Thanks for watching Mark, never said you should lock the drag and test ripping off the handle, but the well built feature of the handle is very reassuring if you do have to turn up the heat... You're lying on your video. I can see the reel stamped with 1501PG which only has 31in per turn. They also only offer this reel in LH retrieve overseas unfortunately.
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 6 месяцев назад
Hey @ausableangler not sure what you mean by "I'm lying" I clearly highlight both the pg and hg reels... I literally have a chart and I'm circling the exact information you put in your comment... I clearly state I own both reels and I like the pg for bait fishing and big fish like black drum that need some torque and I prefer the hg for fast speed jigging or fishing very deep water, so (again) not really sure where your coming from... i also called the stile king valient eagle the strike king sharkey iii in the video... just fyi.. Also, if your looking for the 1501 left handed reel all the more reason to watch to the end of the video, where I direct you to another video featuring digitaka, where you can save hundreds on this exact same reel.
