What you NEED to know - This War of Mine - Perfect Start - Episode 1 

Hey move all items to one search pile so when you return you don't have to search the entire location again.

As this video is titled "Perfect Start"; I feel obliged to mention something that is not in keeping with the title/purpose of the video. At 12:01 Marko has his items gathered in his pack to take home. So far so good. But there are numerous strategical errors. Given that your survivor can only scavenge once each day; and given that this is the first night and thus they have nothing at this point other then the extreme basics the following items are pointless and just take up valuable space: 1 - Herbs. They can be used to make both cheap cigarettes' and bandages. They are however utterly useless without an Herbal Workshop which they do not have and can't even build until the Basic workstation is upgraded which requires wood, components and parts. 2 - Fertilizer aka spoiled food. This IS a useful item - EVENTUALLY. At this point however it is useless as they do not have and can't yet build either an animal trap (till Workshop is at Level 2) or an Herb Garden (till Basic Workshop is at Level 3) These upgrades of course require wood, components, parts and in the case of Level 3 electrical parts. 3 - One cigarette. While it IS very kind to think of Bruno if you are going to take cigarettes' home they have to come after necessities. Eventually once you build the Herbal Workshop cigarettes' will be available to your characters far more economically then wasting a valuable slot as 4 cigarettes' can be made from only one herb or tobacco plus one component! And; since multiple (I think 10? maybe more?) cigarettes' can be carried in one slot is just does not make sense to take one unless you have extra slots and absolutely NOTHING else available to take. 4 - Sugar. The person who made this video is indeed correct that it can be used to make alcohol. However as in previous 3 issues alcohol cannot be made until one has a Moonshine Still. This (amazingly and pointlessly IMO) CAN be made from the Basic Workshop. However in early game it is a VERY poor use of resources as moonshine once costs (fuel & water which must be made with a rainwater collector and filters in addition to the sugar are taken into account. The rainwater collector and filters (and of course the Moonshine Still) all require wood, components and sometimes parts. Given that water is essential for cooking and later on for growing herbs and eventually vegetables which make cooking far more economical (which once Herb Garden is upgraded with wood, components, parts and electrical parts plus a light made with electrical parts) Even with Katia & Bruno in your team once the fact that resources used for moonshine cannot be used elsewhere is taken into account it is unlikely you will do much more then break even. IMO make it if you enjoy making it - just don't expect making moonshine to be the ticket to riches! For the most part the other items make sense. The bandage and meds are a great thing to take - while I might not take them on night one I would definitely take them. Bandages cost a great deal to buy and can save lives. While they can be crafted this is not possible till one has a Herbal Workshop; and also require pure alcohol which is hard to come by. Meat, Vegetables and Water are all obviously useful. While one DOES need a stove to cook it can easily be made as soon as needed. And eating is obviously essential (LOL) . The BEST and most useful thing Marko has are components. He should however IMO take more of them along with some wood. The parts will not normally be needed on day one but are far more useful then the items mentioned above. As for the electrical parts they ARE useful but getting them this early (about a week or more before you can use them) is likely to result in them being stolen. They are however very valuable for trading - but its better just to leave them where they are till later on. To make a VERY long story short; all Marko REALLY needs to get on night one is A - WOOD and B - COMPONENTS. Without that everything else is literally a waste of valuable space. Also it is worth remembering that once an item is in your shelter it is at the mercy of looters. In this scenario Marko had the great good fortune to have a gun and 10 bullets in his shelter on day one. I have only ever seen that one other time; and that is in the Roman & Emilia scenario when they start with NO FOOD; but instead moonshine, bullets and a gun. Anyway sorry this is so long and if anyone is still reading I am impressed. I just like to point out better ways to do things as I have hundreds (at this point 836 hours) of hours of gameplay experience with TWOM. BTW if anyone like me has a lot of experience with this game and wants a challenge I recommend the AAO (against all odds) mod in the Steam Workshop. I don't like all of it - but if I play a custom scenario I find the gameplay is much tougher without being unmanageable.

1st night put 2 heroes to sleep while 3rd one is scavenging, as nobody is robbing in day 1, also after each robbery you can let everybody to sleep (again except scavenging person) as no robbery happens on 2 consecutive days.

So many playthroughs and guides not making a shovel on the 1st day is a mistake. rush shovel so that you could clear everything in your house on the 1st day. after the shovel, make the crowbar so you could open all the locked cabinets in the house. then make a bed so that on the first night, one character can sleep while the other guards. on the 2nd day, you can either make the stove or upgrade the metal shop depending on what you have scavenged. preferably it's the metal shop so you can rush hatchet. you can defer hatchet if the garage appears early and you have meds to trade since that location has an NPC that will pay a lot for meds, so you can get a hatchet and whatever else you need cheaply there. once you have a hatchet, you can cut up all the unnecessary furniture in your house and board up all the holes in it. you need to upgrade the workshop to get that option. a hatchet and a properly boarded up house will stop all raids as long as you have a guard on duty. just make sure you have a gun and bullets once the "outbreak of crime" event starts midway part of the game. raids start on the 3rd or 4th night so hopefully by that time you have been prepared. after that, you can build whatever you want to focus on for your play style. build moonshine still if you want to focus on trading, upgrade the metal shop if you want to build better weapons and just go commando, or build an animal trap if you want to focus on scavenging. in the classic scenario where you start with katia, pavel, and bruno, katia is my scavenger and trader while bruno is the cook and craftsman. pavle stands guard every night.

I personally like to keep some of the raw food at the looting locations (the two first ones should be safe at least) so they can not be stolen at night. Saved me some headache when raiders decided to grab all non cooked food I had stored. Just make sure to get it before the locations start to change. Not sure if it´s still like that but when loot was put in different containers, it disappeared when the city got partially blocked off.

I usally gather only the necessities, remembering whats on those piles at home as a protection against looters (they wont go through your garbage). In earlier versions it was possible to stash new loot on those piles as well. During the night, I pile up the loot at one/two places for easier access later on in the game. It is good to get hold of a weapon as a protection asap. Looters won't steal from you. Also a jigsaw is a great asset to have early in the game. Those also depends on circumstanecs and game style or the achievement you're after. Personality treats and good use of bag space matter a lot. I tend not to take any gifts from neighbours, I rarely do a shady job. Apart from that I help on every occassion or do all I can to help. I feed the house on very hungry unless in surplus. Trading goods for stuff I am lazy to carry on my own (not happy to waste bagspace on rubbish).

[day 1] I prefer to rush metal workshop, craft Shovel+Crowbar then I rush one bed, after that get the best scavenger to loot wood+components (use crowbar + shovel to clean safe spots in the night), if you don't need the tools, leave at home so the survivor guarding the house can use as weapon to protect against looters (useful w/ low skill guards), [Day 2~3} try to get improved workshop (level 2), more beds and rush the 3 board protections as soon as possible. [Day 4] The trader will show up, so you go in a danger zone and try to get as many guns/meds/bandages as possible to trade for all components/parts/wood from him. [Day 5] You focus on food+canned food, after food security (a lot of cooked food + canned food) focus on alarm system on the main door, Cveta + shotgun can protect the whole house without getting wounded. At least this is my main priorities, the whole house boarded + enough chairs/armchair/beds + not getting wounded on raids = content survivors, so you can kill other soldiers/thugs without getting heavy penalties (even wiping the whole hospital, content survivor will go sad, after 2 days getting enough food the survivor will go normal again), gave a like on the video, keep it up :)

this game was on sale all dlcs 6.00 the other day. i watched 30 second video and was like this looks like simple frostpunk. then googled and sure enough same devs. so i bought it. it is really hard, unforgiving not my style of game........... yet i enjoy it. these devs do a great job at making very hard games fun

I agree with jANET wEBSTER'S comments and like to add that the first things I make are a bed and the metal workbench if you can collect enough in the start house. After the first night of raiding I then make a shovel and crowbar

This was fastastic. Seems like a solid game. And especially the bit about 'full water' which I didn't understsnd but guessing over period of time you will share it. Lots and Lots to do still :)

Great new perfect start series.. But... Your audio volume is still very soft. Slider beneath the YT player at 75% compared to 33-50% on other video's with commentary.

When a person is a smoker or coffee drinker, do a have to do something for them to smoke or drink coffee?? Or I just have to keep those items in my inventory,

You can make crowbar from the workbench which you can use infinite amount of times to open locked doors.

Before you scavenge make sure one of your player guard the shelter and make sure if you scavenge you have a knife gun/ammo or bulletproof and if you scavenge make sure you find food water vegetable alcohol bandage and resources amd don't get kill by another scavengers and tank you 😁😁😁

Pro Tip: Right click instead of double click and it does the same thing.
