Sucks because many Americans (9MIL.) who live overseas do not even have these things to verify. They don't accept anything from outside of the country. No cc, no loans, no mortgage and can't even put a non US address in online. Wish they would let us submit passport info or anything else. Oh and the mobile phone number also has to be within the USA. They still expect us to file and pay(if we owe) . But they don't give us any options to fairly do so.
Yes, my friend. I'm in Vietnam, and called to verify (via Viber) after 3 hrs wait, around 1 am local time they asked for details, I answered, and had the info requested...she put me on hold twice, then said they can't verify, and so I can try to fax to them Oh boyo! ??
I'm in Detroit, I never had an auto loan, home loan, I use a prepaid debit card and they don't accept it....and I call 10+ times a day it always says we are to busy to help call back later. We should get 1 million pissed off people and March to Washington DC
Same here. I’ve received the letter. I can't verify online and can't schedule an appointment in person because I’m currently not in the US. I have tried calling the IRS every day since, but I just can't get through. As I’m also living overseas I have no US cc, telephone number or everything else. This is a hot mess.
Depending on your time zone...ex: Vietnam time was 7pm, which means 7 am in Austin Texas (number they gave on my letter) Try to call on a Saturday or Sunday night and be very patient...took me several hours, but I was determined to get a live person. Good luck. ;-)
Were you guys able to find any solution for this, I am not in US and don't have any financial account or US phone number. My friend in US even tried to visit the IRS office but they didn't let him in.
Hey John Kroeber good to hear that u got ur money in 3 wks we did the verify the identity thing on the 4 of May we filed March 18th we Didn’t even know that we had received a letter until we called the I RS they told us to verify identity and it went through so the representative said that we need to wait about two weeks until we see any kind of progress on our refund I pray it doesn’t take that long nine weeks is a long time to wait we have four kids bills are due I am frustrated and irritated it’s just really hard and depressing right now.
Same story w me efiled and did the idme verification witch i was already verified w them so i was familiar w that nightmare. Logged in w irs w my idme info and did the steps to letter 5071c
