What You Say is What You Get: The Power of Words

Words have always been powerful -- more than we imagine. But they have never been as potent as they are in today's information age and communications revolution.
Subscribe to the Meaningful Life Center RU-vid Channel for more
🔔 www.youtube.co...
There was a time when our words reached only the people we spoke with or wrote to. Our conversations were limited to those around us, and they were not recorded for posterity. But today, with the explosion of technology -- internet, social media, smartphone -- every word we say or write has been amplified beyond anything anyone could ever have envisioned. Our words are streamed and broadcast to the entire world; they can go viral reaching millions if not billions of people; and they remain etched forever in cyberspace and beyond.
Posts on today's platforms can incite a mob, destroy a person's reputation as well as spawn a revolution. On the positive side, a kind word can inspire and comfort large numbers of people.
But is our sensitivity to the words we utter up to par with their exponential reach? As our platforms and methods of communications have expanded, have we developed deeper care, respect and empathy to ensure that our words are being used in the best possible way? Are we appreciating the gifts we have today? Do we understand the implications of our words -- and their impact?
Please join Rabbi Simon Jacobson and explore the deeper roots of our power of speech and communication. We can take for granted our ability to speak with each other. Discover how your words are actually connectors and interfaces between your inner soul and faculties and the people and world around you.
The better we understand how speech communicates our ideas and feelings the better we will connect with each other. Learn how your words are streaming energy into the environment around you; how they create a vibe that shapes your surroundings and the people you are speaking with. And above all, how what you say is what you get -- how the energy of your words echoes back to you and defines the response you will receive from others.

A 'pastor' by definition is a leader of a Christian organization, i.e.,church. A 'rabbi' is a teacher, and specifically for deciding between legal disputes. It's a bit of a slap in our Jewish faces to adopt Rabbi Jacobsen for a Christian purpose, though I don't think that's what you intended. I think your exuberance caused it.
@auradiana
@auradiana Год назад
@@nomorecensoringme I think you are being unnecessarily offended. A rabbi and a pastor are both teachers (AND both have different and assorted roles within their communities, I get that). I don't find the need to change what I have said, nor correct it. Perhaps look within yourself as to why you are defensive. I have no further need to comment.

Father Rabbi Simon, This really resonates with me and how my young staff at my businesses act. This is so powerful and I now have a guide to navigate me when I interview and set an expectation. What I have realized is that so many of them are not equipped with kind communication, more so evil tongue. I love thought, speak & action! This has become an epidemic everywhere. I now have a rule “Only kind communication allowed, no evil tongue discussions with and about coworkers, customers or outside drama.” Thank you!

You have me thinking. It is said that "silence is golden" (which may be of Arabic origin) When we are silent, this might suggest that anything said would be negative. Thus, silence might not be good and we might want to break the silence with praise. (Think of the Simon and Garfinkel song, "The Sound of Silence") Thank YOU, Rabbi

Powerful words Rabbi! A very kind smack down, lol! My parents had a poem that hung on the wall in our family room. “Children Learn What They Live”. We all grow up with imperfect examples for teachers, in the home and outside of it. It is my philosophy that it is our job to always work toward perfection even though we will never arrive. I appreciate this lesson. It’s a great reminder to love others as I love myself. To generate kindness and grace and love. Very good!!

What you say is what you get. I agree with you, you are only referring to words spoken, what of the way in which you speak to yourself internally? That can also have a side effect on you internally. This woke me up one day when it was the voice of my mother coming out of my mouth! How we are taught to value ourselves as children.

Reach out to organizations that help disabled people. There are a lot of them. Maybe get a roommate(s) to share the cost of living space, and can get you more space. In the US there are buildings with rents fixed for disabled people. You join the community there and see that your existence can improve being with others. Internet search to start. If you're a Jew, there are services within the community synagogues. Wish you the best.

I was attacked viciously by thousands of people online for a few things I wrote online. Things that were deemed racist. It blew up like a hydrogen bomb online and I lost my business that had more than 2 million $ in sales. I was dehumanized and utterly crushed as a business person. Even if I did say some provocative stuff, and it was immediately connected to the BLM riots in the summer of 2020, I wonder if the reaction and tidal wave of hate that I had to face, was in fact proportional to my alleged crime. I wonder if what I got was kharma and if those who attacked me so savagely will also be hit by kharma sometime on their life for what they did to ME.

No offense Rabbi, but you seem to be preaching the standard useless New Age claptrap under the guise of Kabbalah, such as "love yourself" or "thoughts create reality" which are useless and saying so doesn't make them true especially since they are unprovable and contradict common sense. Isn't it a misuse of Kabbalah to use it as a label to teach standard New Age claptrap?
