How much would you charge to do a custom on a discontinued shoe? I'm still debating on whether or not I should charge close to 1k or more just due to the fact that the shoes I have purchased to sell don't exist anywhere anymore.
@@Glassessss you have to take in to account the value of the shoe before the customizing. Take the number they're reselling for then add your cost for doing the work.
@@daniellona9472 I did think about that. They aren't much, however there's a certain color scheme to them that the company refuses to make. They won't even create more of the shoe and I know if I color them right people would want it. I don't want to overly charge, but I know if I under sell them I'll never get an opportunity to sell them again so it's so hard to decide on a middle ground number. Part of me wants to just put them up for auction and see what I can get for them.
Xzavyon Powell since u put the dollar sign in front of the number and then said dollar after the number, u basically said 350 dollar dollar and 230 dollar dollar Also the yeezys may look and feel better than ur customs no hate
Word on that intro I explain this to people all the time they think cause your an artist and it comes natural for you they don't realize that it takes time and work to make them look nice
Just discovered your channel today I loved the advice! I’ve been doing customs for a few years now. I charged a friend $80 for some custom sketchers and she wanted to lowball me for the cost, and agreed to $60. I was actually choked bc I thought $80 was modest. I charge at least $100-$200 which I felt is good but this is more of a hobby than making it into a career. Appreciate the video! Cheers from Canada!
What's funny is that I was explaining this same concept of pricing to my 13 year old because he's got an artist flair and had I known at his age what I know now I definitely would've been an established artist myself. I wrote down time, materials and self worth as a few things to factor into pricing. I just wanted to point out the potential in his craft. Great video and I'm glad I found this channel 💯
Your videos are AWESOME bro! I watch them every day, multiple times. You are the ONLY guy that goes into EXACTLY how to do things, and when you released the video of what your customs were like when you started was one of the most influential, motivating videos I've watched. And I enjoy motivational videos! I just want to shout out to you how I appreciate you and what you do buddy! Please keep it up!! You're the reason I keep going with this art!
Thank you so much I have been struggling with the pricing part. I most definitely have the custom creating part. Just didn’t know where to exactly start my pricing. So this helped so much thank you. If you have any tips on how to open more doors (where to get customs seen and etc) that would help too.
This applies to all makers and customizers of all things!! I do leather work @sector18leatherworks and pricing has always been the hardest part of any of my projects! A lot of people expect handmade quality at Walmart prices... Your opening quote resonates very loud with me. It has taken me years to get to the level that I am at and my prices will reflect that.
I charge 50 but I was previously and artist still am but im 16 and people in my age group are stingy and dont appreciate others time so I slowly increase wit each custom to show that my time and work is more important than some think
Some people can be cheap and don't really appreciate the art they just want to put something trendy on there feet bro. I'm dealing with the same shit keep your head up and don't let the mc frugals salt your work !
I charged 70 dollars for first ever shoe sold , ir took me a week and it mostly patches and few draw images and i had undercharged because i didnt have ay of the supplies other than the paint. i learned my lesson.
Woot! Thx 😎 - Honestly if I never painted on a shoe, i’d think anything over 40$ is expensive. But that’s because it “looks” easy. Just like when someone draws an art piece or paints a room - others who never did it will judge. How I observed the response from talking to people so far is, like you say - practice and give yourself a rate. Don’t rip yourself off but don’t rip others off if your work and rep can’t back it up 😎😂
Oh thank you so much!!! Pricing is my biggest struggle. Unfortunately I live in an area of stingy people. I will get there. I know it. Just have to push harder
I appreciate your videos so much, I am really excited to start making and designing my own customs and I’m glad you do all these videos to help guide me through a lot, I’d be so lost without your channel I truly appreciate it, thank you!
Thanks...I'm just starting out and getting asked how much I charge and I'm tryna figure it out but, this info really helps...Keep doing what cha do...Much Love
4:34 as a person who grew up in poverty I really appreciate the people who choose the first, having more people buy for a little lower price. So, that’s kinda what I wanna do too, charge my future clients with a little less so it’s affordable for more people
Thank you very much for this video I’ve been waiting for a video like this I’m trying to start shoe customizing and I needed to know this thank you sooo much!!
Hi, we are new to customizing. We ran into a problem. We were told that customizing trademark protected brands is illegal and an infringement liability. My question is how do we find out if that is true.? Thanks for feedback.
Once again your tips are so helpful. So when you're doing a custom pair of shoes how do you and your client get on the same page about the design they want? Do you draw up designs and have them pick what design they want?
I did a pair of custom burnt lv supreme vans with your stencils .it worked great, will buy again from your etsy.also i posted the video on them and other shoes.btw keep it up dcf
I’m Enjoying and Learning a Great deal from your experience and channel, Thank You....!!! I’m getting better with my customs, I’m really just practicing on restorations...Appreciate You My Brother....!!!
All I know for certain right now is if I spend 100 on some air forces, they're my first customization & someone shows interest- I'm selling them for at least 100 🙈 if I can get 120 to make up for some of the resources used that'd be dope too. That being said I might start with Walmart shoes & vans just for practice
Like this guy said for beginners itd ok to start low and as you get better go higher it also depends on the quality of the work I charge for the shoe plus what I think I'm worth on it as long as your making profit cant go wrong .....trial and error...
I have a tutorial video suggestions. Marbling effect (like a marbled table or floor look). I have an idea on how it's done, but never seen someone do it on shoes. I'm interested in seeing how you'd go about doing it
@@daniellona9472 there's that. But there's also a plastic wrap method that airbrush artist have been using for years. It comes out pretty cool. Just wondering if he's ever done it.
As a client- base service professional, I just want to chime in with - don't ever give it away. discount your friends, family, whomever at your discretion, but free is something that people will get used to and brag about. They'll get confused or upset sometimes if u "suddenly" charging , in turn anyone they told about their freebie will want the same deal. u can't set the table with nothing, so always trade or ask some sort of payment in return.
This is great to know, I just do shoes for my friends and family dont sell them or try to charge I just like people rocking something I made.. But for all you who can make some green on your skills💪💪💪💪💪💪
My main problem is that i price upfront, and because i do so many different things and different designs, it is hard to guage. Also, i undercut myself because I question how much people will pay for cups or shoes - even motorcycles. I also need the jobs and don't want anyone to be put off, ya know?
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you brotha! I’ll send you a pic of what I just finished yesterday, and with me I just be incognito with my work ! But I’ll start showing what I can do !
I'm a new subbie and I am about to start my sneaker business and I always wondered what to charge because I don't want to cheat myself out of my own business I want to be profiting big time.
I'm starting to do customs and have this big question that I can't get out of my head, do you as an artist buy the shoes at a supplier/outlet store or do they ship the shoes to you? Or how does that work??
Thank you so much for this video. I must say though, the thumbnail doesn't do it justice. I skipped passed it so many times because I couldn't tell what it was, and I thought I wouldn't be interested, until I read the title.
Is the $25 an hour just the customizing or is that with you buying the shoe as well? Newbie here trying to get this figured out its more of a hobby right now if it takes off I'd love to have more knowledge for sure on it. Thank you for the videos its helped me so much in figuring some of this stuff out!
When you say 25 dollars per hour you mean over and above the cost of the shoes and shipping right? So the price will be = cost of shoes + ($25 per hour x number of hours) + shipping. Is that correct?
A fine artist shouldn’t charge a penny less than 50.00 an hour. I was a fine artist for ten years. Now I’m a plumber. As a plumber I charge more than 100.00 an hour. Lawyers, Dr.s, electrician, HVAC and Tatoo artist. All of them bill out more than 100.00 an hour.
I just painted some custom airforces and they’re my first work, I think they look pretty good but a couple of tiny smudges. I listed them for about $105 and it took me about 6 hrs. Do you think that’s good?
Awesome congrats! To be honest I wouldn’t worry about profit or margins at all when starting out, first and foremost just prove there’s a demand for your work and people want you to create for them!
Hi! Do you know some cheaper alternatives for that 200$ airbrush(the one that is on angeluspaint.com) Btw rly usefull video man I think that you have the best channel about sneaker customs on yt
I’m into hyperrealism, How much should I charge if I were to replicate an Elvis or Tupac even the Mona Lisa on the front side of a pair of canvas shoes taking in consideration it may take me three days to complete 👟
I dont think its ever fair of me to tell someone what they should charge. Artwork is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, you just need to find the clientele who can admire the hard work you put into it. I think the goal when creating a video such as this one is to give you tips and ideas to help up come with what you believe is fair pricing since there's no one size fits all. If it takes you 30 hours but someones only willing to pay $200, that might also mean that you just haven't found the right clientele. That dent mean the artwork isn't necessarily worth it though. Sometimes you have to raise the value of your brand as well before others can see that value in your work. People pay for names
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear That's what i do, if a client supplies shoes, they just pay for my labor, but if i have to provide shoes i charge them and possibly give a small discount on the art, i try and make it comfortable for them to keep coming back. i feel based on my experience if the customer is communicated with well and you make them feel good like and honest feeling cause I'm not here to rip anyone off just provide good work and continue to deliver for my clients.
I have a few questions like Do I have to make my own website? How can I ship it and they pay online? What sizes do I need to get or should I get ever size? I just need to know the basics
Hi I’m quite young starting my business and my clients are most likely gonna be my friends so they aren’t prepared to pay loads of money on shoes should I lower my prices ?
How much would you charge to do a custom on a discontinued shoe? I'm still debating on whether or not I should charge close to 1k or more just due to the fact that the shoes I have purchased to sell don't exist anywhere anymore.
I'm a little confused, because don't you have to spend $100 to get the shoes in the first place? Which means you're not making $250 when you sell those shoes. You are making $150. Just for those of you who aren't great with, like, arithmetic and stuff. Also: Please answer, i'm interested in doing this, and so this is a very serious question.
That’s assuming you’re supplying the shoes. Tons of customizers are merely supplying the service of the artwork where clients have to send their shoes on. No right or wrong way to do it honestly just whatever you think will work best for you
