*uninvited, but I'm gonna make an "addition"* *People call teens reckless, but we're only reckless with ourselves.* *i saw it on a tumblr post once but its pretty true.*
You can never know yourself fully. I guess it depends on what topic we're going about but from personal experience its never clear. People change too quickly for them to learn every trait about themselves. Even when it comes to very simple habits like staying up too late, you might never know that something psychological is going on. Etc
Soaphe That’s very true. I think what’s required is just a simple basic understanding of who we are. If people could identify “themselves” then they can change who they are. Making growth.
I love how society sees metalheads so incorrectly, we just enjoy rocking out with our friends to loud fast music. Some of us are quiet and reserved others are loud and outgoing, Metal brings a community of all types of people together. We aren’t all the same and I wish people would see that.
Same with junglists. Society thinks we’re psychos trying to bring chaos by raiding abandoned warehouses to set up stages so we can have fun but in reality we are just trying to listen to music that we love and enjoy it with friends and have a good time.
Low self esteem isn't always a bad thing,ya know.It prevents you from doing stupid things...Like calling a caterpillar "pig" out loud....And embarrass yourself..
I’ve been into metal music since I was in elementary school. Honestly just fell in love with how the performers looked on music videos and it was so different from what everyone else listened to here (Im from a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean). I never suffered from low self esteem and was pretty much liked by a lot of classmates, although I preferred to be left alone. Now at 39, my tastes have “matured” a bit and got really into piano driven and acoustic guitar music, but the metalhead kid in me still shows up every now and then. So much emotion and feelings can be harvested out by a single chord or note and it’s so hard to replicate. I guess that’s why music has single handedly been my biggest driving force since I was a kid. Im pretty sure I’m not alone on this feeling
You are not. I got into metal in the 1980s. I was 9/10 years old when I started listening to metal bands in that era, pre-adolescent! 🤣 To be honest metalheads are a diverse community and not just angsty adolescents. If anything, my tastes have got heavier as I have got older if we are talking just about metal; and I also like other genres like classic rock and progressive rock. When they say ‘creative, intelligent people’ like classical music that just sounds like intellectual snobbery to me. The charity shops I frequent have tons of classical music CDs and vinyl that people are just happy to give away along with standard pop acts but certain classic or obscure metal is rare or expensive to find. I think that says a lot.
That’s when the mixture of both comes in 🎶Nu-Metal🎶 If y'all don't like nu metal then just don't listen to nu metal instead of complaining to me about it lmao.
Can confirm the metalhead stereotype. Listened almost exclusively to metal since around age 11 and it was the only thing that comforted me in my teen years. I felt like the world was against me. These days, I have a deeper appreciation for metal, as it's no longer a sedative but something I actually love and play myself. I've always wondered why my appreciation for metal hasn't gone down as my youth problems faded away, but I'm glad it didn't!
I'm in my late 40s, and my love for metal has only gotten stronger since getting into it as a teen. And, my metal tastes have only gotten more brutal, so I'm not just stuck in the 80s. Sure, I've flirted with other genres of music, but that was all a mistake. Why mess around with anything else?
@@ericv7720 There's good things in other genres, especially if you're a composer it can be good to sample different things. Glad you're not stuck in the 80s, I personally can't stand the screechy oldschool stuff haha
@@winterbear8633 Oh, I love the screechy old school stuff, and the growly new-school stuff. Metal's not for everybody; it is by nature anti-populist, and that is part of its appeal.
The reason metal and punk are naturally calming for those drawn to it is that distortion and aggressive melodies are quite good at stripping away all the mental clogging and noise that leads to anxiety. It's why fans will often turn the volume louder even when it's giving them a headache: it's about directing that inner darkness harmlessly into a cathartic release that usually takes the form of moshing/headbanging, rather than lashing out at others
For me as well as someone I know who listens to heavier genres more than I do, we're drawn to it because it makes us feel more powerful and less insignificant.
Im a hair guy (motely crue, quiet riot), but some heavy stuff is good, like banshee and metallica. personally though i like hard rock and rock n roll, like GNR, Motorhead, ac/dc. rip mal, bon, and lemmy.
I'm into rock/metal but I'm still a very outgoing person. I must say that heavier music helps me calm down and actually helped me out a crap ton during the pandemic. I ended up learning the bass because of GNR so yeah, thank you metal and rock n roll!
Yes! I first discovered Catharsis when I started to listen to music in the car because I have car sickness. It's so liberating and it's like entering a safe trance that you can control. My fiancée can not understand why "this crazy music" helps me. 😂
I dont think metalheads are always introverted and have low self esteem. Lots of metal is quite positive and uplifting. Just depends on the genre/band.
Funnily enough, metalheads generally feel misunderstood by society, and this video has kinda proved that lol. I feel as if there's a lot of different reasons to like metal
@@OHMYGODAGHOST everyone does >:) (that listens to it often and not like pop 99% of the time) like everyone I know that likes metal feels like it's relaxing and stuff
Bass adds a extra layer to the sound. No longer are you just hearing the music but you feel it too. With earbuds in a powerful breakdown now is felt as much as it's heard
Some say Rap is the best music Others say Pop is the best music But deep inside we all know... that your crush sees you as a friend. (Edit) ok i don't even know how this comment got so popular,it's one of these you write off while being high right before sleep lmao. Anyways,i urge you to give a listen to CLC (kpop) as they're one of the most underrated groups to exist with a trashy company that doesn't give a fuck about them, their music is SO unique and worth it. Who knows,u may end up loving them like i did. You wanna know what your music taste says about you? If you listen to CLC it says that YOU'RE A FUCKING LEGEND AND YOUR CRUSH DOES LIKE U BACK,SO THERE U HAVE IT😳🤧
I like rap specifically consensus rap or lyrical rap basically rap that talks about the problems going about America or around the world or rap that tells somebody's life story.
I've found that I mostly choose my music the following way: 1) Unique voice 2) Great lyrics 3) Great instrumentation/production. So I end up listening to lots of genres from pop to rock, metal, country, prog, and folk in pretty much all their diversity, as long as I find something that draws me to a certain artist/group. And then there are, of course, my soft spots - artists that could sing the telephone book for me and I wouldn't mind, like Bonnie Tyler and Avi Kaplan, and Jim Steinman's beautiful Wagnerian Rock that I can listen to all the time ^^
I'm absolutely in love with classical music. Like if you asked me about love, I'd say Chopin or Beethoven without a moment of hesitation. It's just the sometimes melancholic sometimes sanguine vibes pieces give. Just so poetic and unique.
@@kingsly3690 I guess i'm dumb lol I'm not the biggest fan of classical. I don't hate it .. I'm just not a fan. There are some that I do like and some that I really dislike.. Ironically enough, I've played the piano over 20+ years.
I am very introverted person and I like a lot of electronic music regardless growing up with rock (especially hard rock, progressive rock and heavy metal) and classical music (big fun of Vivaldi, not only Four Seasons). I guess my cousin had a big influence as classical musician and keyboardist. What I love about electronic is how diverse sound it can produce: from abstract, narkotic to something totally organic, imitating other "live" instruments. My first genre was trance (still a lot of love for goa, psychedelic, progressive and some uplifting), then I moved towards darker side with electro-industrial/dark electro, EBM, synthpop and other vocal electronics from dark/gothic scene (being my beloved). Recently I gave a chance techno music (Boston 168 being my gateway from psychedelic trance) and I fell in love with acid (best sound ever created :) Techno is really tough sometimes (I like more lighter side of it than hard one) and extremely repetitive (dub techno for sleeping) yet despite its minimalism (I hated very long time) it's like a puzzle you need to fill with your imagination to fully enjoy it. And it not as dancey as house or trance, suits much better for listening despite very strong beat. Still I like some rock music (mostly it's Gothic rock). What's interesting our music taste depends on personality traits too.
While I don't listen to every genre in existence (mostly because I'm not as familiar), it's interesting how some people don't realize that it's very possible to enjoy genres that usually clash with one another. there's good songs in all genres anyways. :0
Surprisingly I am not an outgoing person and very introverted and I listen to rap. Probably they are just generalising things. I know a lot of hip-hop fans who prefer being alone then being with people. Ur musical taste may not indicate rather u like something or not it just tells u, u like it.

as a metalhead, i can say that music was there for me when nobody else was. i can relate to the text and feel the emotions and energy of the song i'm listening to
Answer: they’re creative (tho conventionally so) with a high IQ. Hard-working and outgoing but have self-esteem issues. Verdict: you’re okay to seek external validation but seek a balance with your own self-evaluation. CBT journal if you need it
I’m really into the rock genre. Whether it’s classic (AC/DC, Rush, etc.), Punk (The Offspring), or Alternative (Linkin Park), 9 times out of 10, I’ll probably end up liking it. I’ve always really liked the rock genre, but I do appreciate the other genres like Pop, classical, sometimes rap, but I don’t really like the country genre. Most genres I do like, nonetheless. Edit: I mistyped “other”.
"you relate to the lyrics" People who only listen to classical music: *surprised pikachu face intensifies* Edit: lmao there is so many comments about the lyrics how did this get so many likes😂oh now i get it it's the classical musicians gathering in the comments Edit 2: thank you for reminding me that opera exists fellow musicians y'all are super cool and valid❤ Edit 3: so i actually sing opera nowadays
One hypothesis I have between the correlation of BPD and lacking base, is that base, and its vibrational nature, is soothing. To be honest BPD is a very archaic term, and it’s based off of an outer perspective of the condition. Basically, what it really is, is complex trauma from verbal abuse during one’s childhood. I’m a recover of the condition, I don’t feel right saying I don’t have it anymore but I’m definitely a heck of a lot better than I used to be. Being in safe places where I feel like I can trust those around me to be compassionate towards me in my outburst of fleeting emotion regarding a trauma of the past, is really cleansing for me and actually helps get rid of the BPD. This is because it’s buried trauma, and it shows itself by antisocial behaviors. This can be gotten rid of through outside source compassion, and I think the reason why a lot of people with BPD happen to like basing music, is because the vibrational frequency can feel calming on their angst he nervous system. Also Neuro divergence for the same reason should be put into consideration as a factor, as I also have sensory processing disorder. I personally don’t have so much in my brain, but in my general nervous system. What do you mean by this is, basically I don’t have so much of the brain defects of the condition, but I get more anxious if I don’t stimulate my body in certain ways. Basically, stress and anxiety can get stuck, and simply feeling vibrations from one of my favorite songs connected by Stereo MC’s can help release that stress for me. Although, if someone is listening to music excessively, that could be a red flag for their mental health
yeah but some parts in classic heavy metal feel more heavy and hit harder than any other part. a deathcore song that's nonstop breakdowns might seem heavy but at the end of the day the intro to painkiller by judas priest has me headbanging 20x times more.
I feel like I listen to artists that are not very well known, Cartel, Acceptance, MAE, Wolves at the Gate, and Saosin for example, but also some popular ones as well, but to certain people I think, Demon Hunter, Project 86, P.O.D., Red, and Spoken.
My favorite “genre” is musicals. I suppose that would be counted as complex, because while there are motifs that are repeated, the music isn’t very repetitive. Musicals like my favorite, Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, has lyrics directly quoted from Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, so the rhythm can be really weird sometimes, but that’s what I find pleasing.
I don’t know what kind of musical genre I like, but I like to listen songs from Everywhere At The End Of Time (that one famous album that supposed to portray dementia)
Exactly what I was thinking, I think whatever group they used to get that observation was heavily skewed in a specific direction, cuz the vast majority of people I know that are metalheads (myself included) are confident, fun loving, and outgoing types. On top of that, most metalheads I've met are surprisingly also some of the sweetest most caring and accepting people out there, that aspect really shines in a good mosh pit when everyone's thrashing the shit out of each other but also helping anyone that needs it and taking care of each other. Metalheads be protective too, if someone steps out of line they will be put back in place, and get their shit rocked if they deserve it. I remember at this one show, this guy was being belligerent and actually punched his girlfriend in the face, and literally in seconds the dude was swarmed with angry mfers, got his lights knocked right out, and was ejected from the venue. Metalheads don't tolerate abuse 🤘
That's true but imagine those same people in public. People act like that because they are around others who like the same thing. And like they said, it's not always the case.
I love the boom of the bass. Feels like im engulfed in something cozy and the vibration it gives throughout the body is exhilarating (no not that way ya dirty). The most thrilling times i have in my life is at a concert were its so loud you physically feel it too.
Ikr! I was hurt. But then they said at the end of the video that it's not true for everyone, correlation is not causation and the little animated dude put up a peace sign and it's all better now.
Being introverted isn't a bad thing in the slightest though! Some people just need alone time and people who enjoy that most likely enjoy metal due to a lot of songs having themes about being alone and being stronger for it!
@@vitvs that's true, but low self-esteem is not a super positive trait. But at least we have something lol, I like being introverted. I think it leads to me doing less dumb stuff. 😂
Rule of life # 16,994,697,533,258,964,237,855 when listening to music: I just don't think things are always that simplified :/. That's not really a rule but still. Give me a hating ass topic. I guarantee you I can find a song like that like in every genre. Same goes for any other topic. & Everything else in general.
Retail got me into heavy metal. After dealing with and gaining the understanding of how cruel the majority of people act towards others, the best way to cope is to listen to music about them
Metal is about overcoming struggles. If someone who struggles with low self esteem wishes to cultivate inner strength, they will play music that instills strength such as metal or hardcore. But even those with self esteem have times when they need to be pumped up, such as during a workout or before a stressful situation. So the same principle by which metal gives confidence to the introverted gives motivation to the unmotivated.

I love metal. Mostly because it helps me free my emotions and deal with them. Also this kind of music has so much power that can motivate your to eg. get up or do your training. I also love the climate of this music, amazing voices of the singers and how bands use their instruments. And of course concerts are unforgettable 🔥 So I think it's much more that reasons given in video 😉
When listening to music, I never want to listen to just one type or genre, because I think that all artists and kinds have something interesting. I also don’t want to confine myself… to me listening to just one type of music is like reading the same book over and over again. My favourite genres are Rock (soft, classic, alternative, operatic…) Classical, Soundtrack music, jazz, Blues, Reggae and instrumental in general. Queen is my favourite band ever ❤️❤️
Muñoz uhh sad stuff with sad lyrics uhh Shawn Mendes uhhh Melanie Martinez uhhhhhhh yeah stuff like that and no I don’t really listen to emo, when I say sad stuff with sad lyrics I mean something like “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence.
I personally discovered Metal when I was 12. And I liked it, been listening to it ever since, new and old, and to a lot of subgenres. Never really fit with the angsty teen stereotype, nor did I have trouble making friends. I'm not introverted either. Then again, I also listen to a lot of country/folk (I LOVE John Denver
The Autumn Effect is probably the most underrated ‘Alternative Metal’ record ever made. 10 Years as a band is not recognized for making their own sound and it really bugs me because they really are a fantastic group. Apart from a few songs that went mainstream like Wasteland (of which is still a banger song), a lot of their catalog goes unnoticed. If you are looking for more hard rock/metal vibes, definitely check it out. One of my favorite records of all time. Their sound is completely unique and they deserve more attention.
"you can related to the lyrics" The lyrics: Cooking like a chef I'm a 5 star michelin Cooking like a chef im a 5 star iron man Like mate stop procrastinating Excuse me noona do you have a boyfriend? Most metalheads may have low self esteem but it’s because we care more About others than ourselves. We are some of the most caring people that you will ever meet because we would do anything to help you through something because there is a high chance that we have already gone through it and we don’t want you to go through it without support because we know how it feels.
i think all that self esteem and introvert association with metalheads comes from that post 90 stuff in metal. real metal is energetic, extroverted and beer and social orianted
@@ye_he2968 yeah but today most metalheads doom around on their computers and cry about how their lives suck and how alone they are just put on some exodus have some beers with other idiots and thrash some place to trash
@@thrashislife2654 i think it's actually because of the beer stuff that they're depressed. A standard metalhead generally drinks a lot because of their same idea of what metalheads do. And if we have on mind that alcohol is actually a depressive "drug"... That would make sense for me
Music has been a very big part of my life since I was in 5th grade. I remember listening to music and when I grew up, I learned and grew into that music. I learned what those lyrics meant now since I got older. Also different generes brings out different emotions out of me. Classical is for focus and concentration. Jazz is for relaxing and winding down Rock is for exercising for a boost in energy Indie is for when I want to feel good about myself and feel happy and warm feeling Blues is for when I want to feel a strong connection to my guitar and sound. So many genres I can go on but generes for me is to pull out many different emotions
"You can relate to the music" - ExCuSe Me NoOnA dO yOu HaVe A bOyFriEnD? - YOHHHHH - Cuz I'm a nice guy who just has a lot of moneyyy - Natural curly hair is super frizzy eyy (he's not wrong tho) - MAAAATRYOSHKA - You can be Fiona and I'll be Shrek, ugly and immature, swAg Just to list a few
Heavy Metal is just intensely powerful to me. It makes me feel euphoric and it gives me a rush. The same way a roller-coaster does. I feel contented and like I just did a sport. And it is like exploring a dark art inside from inside. Some of the bands have albums which are like grand epics. It is something to explore. It is many things.
I takes more skill than all the other genres save complex/classical, and displays its dominance over them. On the other end of the spectrum is repetitive music which I do not, repeat, do not like. But it is this music which requires considerably less skill that is popular among the well respected majority.
