I'm unsure how that went over his head... .it's literally an amp in a box and acts like an other pedal. Simply you can put , put distortion/od/wah /comp in front etc then delays/reverb/odulation after tonex In my case I have my varitone pedal, eq, wah, treble booster, fuzz pedals and all my drive pedals running into my boss gx100. Then tonex is plugged into the fxloop of the gx100 and using the touch screen I can place the tonex first in the chain.,.....then I can utilise all the modulation and delay effects on the gx100 as i got rid of my physical delays and reverbs..into a 10band eq....then I go into my interface....and I can record or just have playback through my studio monitors So I can utilise all my physical pedals, digital drive pedal, tonex amps, digital verb delay and mod, with a flexible signal chain and physical eq's and nothing is left out or restricted.
Usually it sounds awful to use real pedals with digital stuff. Even if there is now harsh clipping, it lacks the electric magic, that happens between transistors and valves. It's te same with putting a pedal and route the signal into an virtual amp in your DAW, it simply doesn't sound right.
@@conordyer2307he had to do his video on the pedal. I have on the way. I’m not expecting to have an fx loop. I’m not expecting it be an all in one pedal. It captures amp profile’s. He had to get his few minutes of exposure 😂
Bro', I'm a beginner guitar player, and it took me 5min. to comprehend the product manager. All the documentation is right in the tool. Download the PDF docs, and do this old old school thing we call, "read". If you don't want any of the software, connect your pedal, and have a great time. Simple!!!! If you want a full featured hardware and software tool to do some awesome shit, install the custom shop versions of Tone, and Aplitube.
The main reason why I like it over the other stuff is because it doesn’t have built in effects. I love pedals and I want to use them. This is the perfect piece for me.
5:49 Literally EVERY review I've seen of this pedal talks about the intention of the pedal not being to replace a multi effects unit. It's essentially an amp replacement... if you want effects, you use other stuff for the effects. Also, they've all mentioned that you need Tone-X Capture or a similar interface to profile. Not sure how you missed that.
You may have seen the later reviews. Because the early ones all said “ditch your quad cortex” and things of the sort. And those early reviews didn’t state the capture box either but some to find out you don’t need it, because with pedals you can capture using the toneX pedal.
@@jonartan4754 the more I use it the more I like it. I love IK’s Klon Centaur captures they are exact, as well as the Joe Bonamassa Dumble Super Overdrive. Those two things are worth the price of the pedal. With still 148 slots left for me to put onto my pedal.
You just need a reamp box to send the line level from your audio interface to your amp. You dont need their box. The Tonex App gives you access to 100s of captures for their premium level. It also gives you a plug in for your daw. You dont have to use any of it. But it's worth $100s for free.
I agree with you that it was not easy downloading the software. It felt super counterintuitive. But once I got through that that's the only issue I have with this device. They are pretty transparent that you need a load box... when you're buying these things it says it in the description. So I'm not really sure why you think they aren't telling people you need a load box. And the beauty is that you're not even forced to get their load box. This is the tiny sacrifice you make to not buying the quad cortex or the kemper. Their design uses computer hardware to capture these sounds. Thats great for many reasons. Many of us already have decent conputer hardware if we are recording on our computers, you dont need to have all that size and weight lugging the extra hardware to gigs and you get higher quality captures because your computers hardware is always far more superior to the hardware in these devices. It makes zero sense to be putting all that hardware into a multi effects unitu because you rarely need to capture on the go because you are doing your captures at home. And a load box is a great piece of gear to have to play your real amps at a normal volume. Everyone is fully aware this is not a multi effects unit. People are excited because you can now make a pedalboad under 1000 dollars that can replace a kemper or a quad cortex. This has been the best piece of gear I own
Good points. It’s a phenomenal pedal to add into your pedalboard for amp modelling, but there is indeed no delays etc. I have mine after the tonex pedal. Also, no need to by extra eq or the dedicated tonex devices for capturing if you already own a reamp box and an interface
I think the TONEX pedal is in direct competition with the Stymon Iridium, Walrus Audio ACS1, UAD amp pedals, rather than the Kemper et al. It is in the same price range as those pedals, and beats those pedals by several miles imo. Add a decent reamp box, and you get closer to Kemperville. Really disappointed by the absence of an FX loop. But yeah, I was simply looking for an 'Amp sim w/IR loader' pedal, and the TONEX slays every other pedal in that category. Personally, I think it would have made more sense for it to have been designed with a balance line level output and an instrument level output, rather than stereo line level outputs.
I’m looking at one of these because, as a bass player, my amp is a key part of my tone, but my whole rig weighs just shy of 100lbs and barely fits in my car. I figure if I can capture it on the ToneX, I can bring that and a DI box to sessions and smaller gigs where maybe I don’t want to bring all that stuff (though the lack of a balanced XLR out on this thing baffles me). Is this a good use for the ToneX? I really haven’t been able to get a straight answer. Cheers!
The 'non-stacking' is my biggest complaint about my several thousand dollar hand-wired boutique amp. It only does the amp sound and it doesn't have built-in delay, flanger, chorus, and many other effects that I like. I've had to resort to using pedals to do these things. I wonder if ... maybe I could ... is it possible ... could I use the Tonex like an amp? I wonder if anyone else has tried this?
Most people are using this in conjunction with another multi effects unit. This is no secret. There are tons of youtube videos that are clear as day regarding the lack of effects included with tonex.
sold my Kemper and bought a tonex as I have a bunch of cool pedals still for delays etc. this was a no brainer for the size and space for touring with,
This will replace my Randall 1/2 stack and fit on my pedal board. This thing kicks ass. We all already have flooe effects and an amp so all this does is allow you to leave your amp home and sound killer anywherewhile taking up a small footprint.
The Tonex is by far on the top of my list of potential modelers to buy. I understand that it's not for people who use all kinds of different effects, but that's what I like about it. I like the simple "just the amp" approach. I have a tuner, booster and maybe a delay pedal on the board and that's it. I'd use it like a normal amp. Buying a QC or Kemper would be overkill for me. No added benefit, only headaches and higher costs. By the way, I do not think they are misleading buyers about the capturing process. It's just your assumption that you should be able to capture amps with the pedal. IK Multimedia never claimed this. And you do not need the Tonex interface either. You need the software and can use any interface and a reamp box. And they tell you this on the website of the software. Any cheap interface + reamp box is still way cheaper than comparable capturing units anyway. And you can use the captures in the plugin. So really the Tonex Pedal has nothing to do with making the captures.
Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can shed some light on: 1) What really is the difference between an amp modeler vs an effects pedal. Both tries to get sounds from different amps and we can customise effects on it. Is NUX MG 300 an amp modeler? 2) What is difficult on tone capturing? Isn't the process to download it from the site and load it within the pedal?
You’re absolutely right. You inspired me to finally post a video telling everyone what they don’t tell you about the boss sd-1. It doesn’t do reverb, or delay. Like not at all. They don’t say that on the box. The manual, or the marketing material. You have to buy a bunch of other pedals. Booo boss
I was able to capture my pedals and amp with my Behringer interface. You just need to have two inputs and follow the instructions in the app. Also, there are the other pedals that cover distortion, delays and modulation.
Very cool. I tried with my zoom Livetrak L-8 and my Focusrite Scarlett Solo and no dice. I am ordering the KH Multimedia one soon and gonna give it another go.
@@theguitarrabbi7173 When you open the ToneX Modeler section there is a link to the minimum requirements. There it states that you need an audio interface with at least 2 inputs and 2 out, preferable 3: L/R monitor + 1 send to your rig. The Livetrak L-8 should be more than enough to do the trick. I hate to see you buy something you don't really need.
You actually only have to download the manager. Then download the Tonex software. You only need those two things. The other stuff is just for buying the pedal.
Hi! I have a question and hardly can get an answer, please help :) The TONEX pedal doesn't have an AUX input, so is it possible to play along with some backing track? I mean to have the guitar sound and backing track sound together on pedal output?
The issue is you are wanting it to do something it is not made for. If you wanna play with a backing track you can do so in your DAW with the pedal and headphones. Or you can by putting the pedal to an amp with an Aux input at the same time. The ToneX isn’t the kind of device you are thinking it is it seems.
The person who answered your question couldn’t be more wrong. You absolutely can play along with backing tracks. Number one you can run amplitude import your track amplitude, and play along and record in there. Number two, you can set your input device as the X and your output device as your computers default output, and play along both ways This is also a audio interface which this person doesn’t seem to know or understand It’s got a setting you can switch it to audio interface mode or live mode. Good luck.
No offence dude and I don’t mean this in a bad way thank you for putting your video up but like you should really at minimum know your product if you’re going to do a review on it. like it doesn’t make any sense to me, but thanks again.
Sold my quad cortex. The effects and overdrives etc were not up to standard. I now have a tone x with my real amp captures and real pedals. It takes pedals the same as real amps
Thanks for sharing your insight. I have not used a Quad Cortex but I do have the NeuralDSP plug-ins and I think they are pretty good. Would you say the sounds from the Quad Cortex are a lower quality than the plug-ins? Now I can say, the ToneX masters the Dumble and the 5150 sounds. I need to explore more however.
@@truthfactreality6814 I can agree. I love the Tone King Imperial plug-in from Neural. But the vintage tube amps on the ToneX are next level. But with the neural I have the drive pedals and the chorus which I love and the delay and reverb.
I agree. My QC is gonna up for sale very soon, this ToneX just has a thickness that compares to my Fractal AX8 which I LOVE. I used Kemper for 10 years untill I got the AX8 from a mate. I must say, the Ruby from UA sounds amazing and on the same level of not better that the AX 8 , I’m sure I will find some Vox captures on Tonenet or some third party guys . Great video
The ToneX pedal is capture player, unlike the QC or the Kemper and now the Headrush Prime you can’t capture/clone an amp on the pedal. You need a decent computer with a DAW and the IK software etc. plus imo if your cloning a good valve amp costing a $1000 plus are you really going to use a cheap audio interface ! This is why the ToneX is cheaper than QC, Kemper etc. I’m sure as an amp profile player that goes on your pedalboard it does a good job, but it’s not the same as the bigger more functional profilers 🙂
I have pedals and kinda prefer that. Some stuff gets into the ballpark but there is a difference in the tone and feel. So I only needed something that captured well. Was thinking about QC until this came out. It objectively captures the amps more accurately. That’s all I need it for. The fact that it has a good reverb, eq, gate, and compressor is a plus. Never expected this $400 item to be a multi fx unit that competes with things, in the fx regards, that cost 4 times as much.
@@DavidAnthonyFlores Sounds like you got what you were looking for, my point was that you can’t capture amps on the ToneX directly you need other equipment and software.
Do they sound good threw a lina array pa system. I have a multy effect board. And sounds terrible threw a pa. But of cause sounds great threw a valve amp
Firstly, the Tonex pedal sounds great. You could use this by itself running into the power amp in jack on your amp or into and effects loop. Now the bad, the Librarian tab was working on my computers, the next day did not connect to either. Support ticket with IK multimedia is useless they referred me back to where I purchased the pedal (Sweetwater). The tonex pedal is a great idea, which is fairly well executed, but support is very lacking.
I used to hate program managers, but they are actually really nice. I didnt understand till I got a new machine, and had to transfer licenses. Its much easier with a manager installed.
Could someone please give me some advice comma I have a tone x pedal ... I use audacity as my DAW .. The pedal will send a guitar stereo signal through the USB to the studio. To record, I am not able to hear it through my monitors while recording the guitar parts. Only after playback .. What do I need to adjust? To be able to hear the ToneX through my studio monitor w/ usb imput .. Thx
Really really late i know, and im not an audacity user (FL & studio one), but id have to bet using the “Virtual Audio Cable” software you could route your tonex output to both sources correctly (audacity and your monitors). It sounds like its hitting audacity (which id guess does not have monitoring since you can still hear it after recording). use the software, split the output from tonex before audacity and bounce to wherever for your monitors + record
I’m not yet sold on the TONEX pedal. I have considered it as a back up for my axe fx, by taking captures of the amp models I use, which are modified from the stock ones inside the Axe FX. If you are using it to either back up your own tones or take them on the road from the studio TONEX makes a lot of sense, but using other people’s captures is something that doesn’t interest me. Personally I would have to build a pedal board around it using a switcher or a multi effects unit like HX effects that has ideally 2 effects loops. One for the Tonex and one for analogue pedals. My view at present is that I’m not sure it’s worth the time and money just for a back up, but for some people it will be a great solution.
Um, I'm pretty sure every single one of those effects can be added to an Amp capture when in Amplitube 5 and then just set as a preset on the ToneX. I'm really not seeing the issue that he is talking about. Sure its a little bit different work flow than say a Quad Cortex or Helix or Zoom, but in the end the result is the same. In fact a quick search on RU-vid shows you exactly how to get every effect you want on any custom amp captures or even stock ones and then put it into your pedal. So all the people out there reviewing this device saying "but what about delay, or what about this effect or that effect" all simply just don't know how to use the device with the included software. Here is an example of what I'm talking about ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I_7bUgFs3Js.htmlsi=UD9zWRfDaml3s1xI
Not the case, the toneX can only do fuzz and overdrive and amps and cabs. That is it. No chorus, no delay, no reverb, and we are talking about the ToneX pedal not Amplitube, which is not something you can use like a multi effect pedal because you cannot gig with Amplitube or use it in a live setting
Yeah my live rig I run a tube combo on top of a jazz chorus.. I do stereo too.. With tremolo and rotary and chorus even delays, I usually run them wet/dry thats my live rig. So thats why I have the Boss Core. I can do all of that.. But, this in combination with the Boss.. Thats a good rig eh? But still. Look at how much I spent just to sound like putting a mic in front of my amps!
It captures amp profile’s bro. No one is saying it is an all in one unit! It takes place of your amp! You have thousands of choices to load on the pedal! If you like stacking all these fx to get your sound you should send it back! I see you have the Sweetwater link in the description. Getting a kickback are we! People that have watched the RU-vid videos should know what to expect!
the downloading and setup was completely maddening!!! I was screaming at my screen. I still don't know what all the crap is they gave me. Love the sounds of the pedal though.
@@theguitarrabbi7173 yes, that is what I have figured out thanks to your info. For me, something like the boss unit would be better. I don’t record, capture ir’s etc..
It depends. If you are looking for something of a “in the ballpark sound” but not able to get the exact sound just something similar then the boss or the zoom of something like that will suffice. But if you want to play and have the actual sound of a Dumble, or a Klon, or a 5150, or whatever amp or pedal, then the ToneX is worth a lot more than what it is sold for.
@@mikewendeln5218 Ill probably never do a single capture with TONEX. There are so many great captures included and people like Tone Junkie and The Studio Rats make world class captures that you can buy CHEAP
Your heart is in the right place but i feel like a lot of this doesnt make 100 percent right. I do understand your saying though that your speaking to people who arent tech savy so i can understand that. I had no issue with downloading all the programs from Ik multimedia in like minutes.... Every youtube vid i watched describes it as an amp in a box. Not a multo fx pedal. I do wish the capturing process was easier, but for ghe technology and price, thats not an issue. Also, im happy with being able to grt whatver tones will come up eventually. You might have to dig around a bit, but youll easily get free uploads of really cool stuff for sure.
Hey everyone. Shalom. I bought one when it first came out and I’m not savvy with computers at all. I’m old as dirt and a plug and play moron. I ran it right into a Headrush FRFR12 and it sounded like ass. I returned it. I too finance as I’m dirt poor and disabled. I’m sure I did something wrong. I can put the Boss IR-2 straight into my powered speaker and It sounds great. Can anyone offer something helpful ? I appreciate it. Also, anyone run one of these with a Line6 HX Stomp ? Would that be compatible ? ✌️
Yeah Bro, too complicated for an old man with ADHD. What is a great sounding simpleton easy to use unit for under a grand ? Is the NUX Trident any good ? That’s my price range. Just watched that Ukrainian processor Amperium ? Sounded great to me…… a little expensive and I believe must be bought direct. So financing is out to my knowledge. I may be wrong. Thanks.
@@theguitarrabbi7173 no I have a studio and used to use some IK effects but the content updates and authorisations and glitches with products and multiple downloads via the account section and the IK management program is by far the worst ever . hence why I dumped all my IK stuff and just got the Tonex and accepted the whole nightmare would begin again,, haha
Not true that you can’t stack pedals or run extra delays and overdrives and fuzzes and reverbs with ToneX. Simply wrong. Of course one can. Still listened till about 11:35 (at 2x speed because the video features ultra-slow delivery), but then bowed out due to all the bickering.
Catholic guitarist just converted...! Thanks for all the forewarning on the ToneX. While I was thinking it would be cool to capture my amps, I do not want to buy more gear, as you explained. PS Do you like Eric Clapton's tone on She's Waiting?
Very cool. Maybe try the free version of the toneX software and listen to the tones you get from it and then decide if the pedal is for you. That Clapton tone is an interesting one for sure
But does this model. My Amp? Or only capture the tone I set on my Amp? Because if that the case I'll return it. Because. Well. I love it but I'm already frustrated with the learning curve. I haven't touched this kind of shit in 20 years since the digitech rp20 valve days hahahahaha. I went back to, Amp and pedals. But at my age I can't carry amps. Anymore.
The headrush is mainly made for people who turn their gain up to 65. So if that is not you or 99% of guitar players who don’t play slide metal then you will like the ToneX a lot better
If you only need an amp tone or a very basic setup then its a really cool unit. But If I was to build a whole heavy and expensive pedalboard with a thousand pedals again, with all the physical disadvantages, I would rather prefer a modern multi fx unit that is much lighter, cheaper and much more reliable than a pedalboard with a thousand cables, plugs and power supplies. Also a modern multi fx unit has a reliable sound signal chain and is predictable smooth concerning work flow and reliability on the road. Come on, are there any real live musicians out there? Good gear is when you can forget about it on stage.
I can go out and gig with NOTHING but Tonex. It's my amp, cab, mic, compressor, reverb, and dirt pedal.............and is the best sounding amp replacement I've ever heard.
This is so funny. It does say Aplidelay and amplichorus so why do none of these work. Amplirube flat out lied. It only does amp and cab profiles since you cannot sample a time based effect. In short they should just call it "Amplitube Tonex". I mean even volume on your guitar and amp level react like it is a tube amp. That is amazing. I put a boost in front of mine and a delay pedal after and any of my guitars sound freaking amazing. I can't believe how good it reacts like a tube amp. I have it plugged straight into a mixing board and MEsa Boogie is right there. So hey good folks at Amplitube lets thisnk about calling it what it really is. An amp and cab profiler. I had a Kemper mini onoprder but it is cancelled. I got the Blackstar MIDI pedal to control it all so I am in heaven.
Initially, I was very interested in the TONEX Pedal. As I researched further(mostly youtube videos) and saw the software manager/eco-system, which happens to be the same software manager as a Guitar Amp Plug-In I purchased for my DAW, I got kinda’ turned off to it. Software can be really cool until it’s not cool. When it starts adding layers upon layers of complexity & licensing, and it gets in the way of me enjoying my guitar … that’s definitely NOT COOL. I’m not getting a TONEX Pedal anytime soon. Maybe they will upgrade it based on user feedback. I’ll recheck it then
I didn’t know there were certain specs for headphones but that is interesting. I do know I was getting low output for a while the other day, and it was because I lowered the gain volume on the left of the pedal. I didn’t think that should adjust the output of the pedal but it was interesting to say the least I thought the volume button would do that. So it seems the pedal is really set like an amp
@@theguitarrabbi7173 Thanks for your reply. I asked IK and here is the specs. ToneX headphone output specs. Funny that they replied with dB on THD. 20mW of power is freaking low. I'm giggling with ya when you say you are sad that it doesn't have tons of pedal support and you like complicated setups and options with wet effects and yet you say repeatedly you're a simpleton who likes things simple. :) Just trolling ya in jest. :p
No, actually, everyone is talking about these very same points. Literally, everyone is talking about how this is not multi effects, but simply an amp in a box. Tonex gives you even better quality captures than Kemper, includes all the software with the pedal, and even if you have to buy another interface, you’re at 1/3 of the price of a Kemper and yet you’re acting IK is somehow bait and switching you 🙄🙄
Literally you are a moron. Because when it first came out everyone was saying it was a multi effects unit and the taglines were “time to ditch your quad cortex” and “time to ditch your helix”. So please know what you are talking about before attempting to make a drinker counterpoint
You sound a bit geriatric my friend. Not gonna lie. Every damned thing online has a download manager and you can cherry pick what you want. 5 minutes of research will tell you what you need. And its never taken me more than a few minutes. The thing about having a user based platform is youre gonna have to weed thru some shit to find the gems but i have never paid for anyone's captures from tonex.
Look at the thousands of videos that came out the week it dropped everyone said “get rid of your helix, get rid of your quad cortex, get rid of your multi-effects units.” Me and others have called people out for this. So stop being a moron
lol I think you meant to comment on someone else’s video. No one was crying or complaining here. Maybe your little snowflake mentality doesn’t realize criticism could be given without someone falling to pieces. You will learn this when you are an adult.
