I think *RU-vid* is being rather ridiculous and going overboard with this whole erasing comments mess. Like for instance deleting comments on a video just because some random little kid walked by the camera; and was never seen again while their parent was filming and talking about some thing else, and doing it to kids cartoons such as *Arthur* and the *The Chipmunks* . I just wish that it would go back to the way it was before. : /

For some reason, kids can be smart and not give away their name, address, or phone number.

How about this, let parents parent their kids and let them be liable for any harm that comes to their children because they use electronic devices to babysit?

The entire issue sprouted from kids not staying on RU-vid Kids where they should be, and lying to get on the real site, thus subjecting them to ads, marketing etc.

I have two kids and is my responsibility to manage what my kids watching or doing on the internet. Not YT or anyone else.

I have a child. And she told me she saw inappropriate videos. I never once went to RU-vid and complained. We had some talk and what is healthy and what isn’t. It’s my problem. I am the parent and monitoring my daughter is my responsibility.

Coppa has destroyed my RU-vid Kids toy channel WD Toys. Revenue is down more than 50% from Last Year. This is my full time job and I support my 6 kids ages 3-12 with my channel. Now I don't know how I am going to pay my bills.

Good job with marketing the petition! Good to know there is something we can do. Didn't know these changes were that bad I can I already think of some REALLY popular kids content channels that this will affect. I was contemplating uploading storytime videos of me reading children's books, but I have to probably start a separate channel for that if I still really want to upload (still contemplating the reason for that since your last point about kids content creators making virtually no money from kids content anymore)

2019: No more adult content allowed 2020: No more children's videos allowed 2021: RU-vid shuts down, complete chaos begins 2022: Millions of RU-vidrs lose their ad revenue and end up homeless, riots all over the internet, and so on... Everything just leads to something worse. This entire situation is completely insane.

This is the same type of thing that killed Saturday morning cartoons.

I was taught what predators were at twelve. I was taught not to trust anyone on the internet at twelve. I was told not to enter my personal information in a shady sight at *twelve.* The parents need to ban their kids off the internet if they are gullible. They need to teach them stuff if they want to be on the internet. They need to monitor them on the internet if they are under 12/13. We are NOT their baby sitters.

I already read COPPA rules in ftc.gov, often. In FAQ page there's a question, "Am I responsible to kids users who lied about their ages?". And the answer is "NO." Where's ur brain, YT?

If this passes, imagine how many people will be arrested for not paying the fine because they don’t have the money for it...

I do animation on an alternate account, and sometimes its "safe for kids" and definately not (may have violence/gore etc.) The characters I use may attract kids I do this as a hobby and dont plan to make money off it. I have marked my channel as not for kids but do not restrict.. will I be ok?

RU-vid literally says to get monetized that you need to have videos friendly to people 13 or under. Then right next to that it says to avoid coppa by not making videos that appeal to people 13 and under.

FTC needs to revise what "for kids" is because yes.... Hentai, animations, anime rap, gaming.... Not for all kids.

This change has inhibited me from making playlists of each subject (examples: One letter of the alphabet, Sign Language, or potty training songs) that HELP me to EDUCATE my child. I am not able to do this with RU-vid Kids. If these channels made for my child can no longer make revenue for their hard work, then SO MANY CHILDREN will lose the ability to learn in fun ways! :( Personalized ads (for toys, games, etc.) towards MY child (who has MY permission to watch content on MY channel) is MUCH BETTER than the MATURE ads that I'd prefer her NOT to see. This "protection act" is NOT protecting my child. I'm having to protect my child from the unpersonalized MATURE ads that are now being exposed to her as a result of this change! I feel stripped of my right to parent my own child. Let me (the actual parent) determine what I let MY child watch. I hope you receive this well.

I have a simple solution. First, we each have a conscience, and therefore, how would you act around children while the parents are around; especially when you don't know the parents? Use that as your measuring stick. Second, read a couple children's books that is geared towards children thirteen and under, then one or two that are geared toward teens above thirteen, and you can use that as a measuring stick as well. Third, watch a children's movie from back in the 1990's or earlier that has a "G" rating, another with a "PG" rating, another with a "PG-13" rating, and finally one with an "R" rating. (I suggest the last bit there because stuff back then was a little more safe for children for a "PG" or under rating than it is now most of the time. My own mother cannot believe what they now think is suitable for children these days and allow and air on CTNW and Nick. As she said, and I quote her on this, "They would have never of allowed that or showed that in my day as for children." And she said that while the show was airing around just the time when children were getting out of school.) Anyway, while doing that, look up all such ratings mentioned, and also learn of how they decide what is suitable for children and not. Fourth, all movies and television series that are not suitable for children on television, start with the proper warnings; like for example, "Parental Advisory Warning: The subject matter may not be suitable for children under 'such and such' an age." Basically this throws it back into the hands of the parents, forcing them to take responsibility, as it should be; and the content creator of whatever platform, whether it would be for simply buying a DVD with an "R" rating or watching it on television, no longer worries about it. We as content creators here on RU-vid can do nearly the same thing. When all research is complete, you can begin to put a warning label at the beginning of your videos. For my channel, of which I just started back in November, I came up with a Color Coding System as soon as I heard about this whole ordeal with RU-vid, the FTC and the COPPA Act about a week ago. I don't really see at it as a means to try and get rid of freedom of speech and the like. I do think, however, that people have forgotten what morals are, and they think that everything is just relative. But also in saying all of this, there is a balance that needs to be stuck. If they hit RU-vid for targeting children with ads, then CTNW and Nick need to be hit with it well, and any other station or platform that has ads that are targeting children under thirteen whatsoever. And then, let's find out how fast the FTC and the Government get sued, because those companies are not able to market there products properly. McDonalds and BK need to be hit with it as well, because they have ads that are directed at children. And ect... There needs to be a balance where everyone can get along as a nice big happy family, and everyone still makes a little revenue. Point blank, period... If content creators don't start being responsible, then acts like this from the FTC and the Government will always feel like it's taking away people's rights. The lesson to be learned here is, don't make them take action and there won't be any problems.

So let me get this straight: I want my kids to be able to watch safe, child friendly content online. Content requires money to the people who make content, otherwise they will have no time because they need to have a job elsewhere. Result: Nobody is going to make child friendly content as a job, and 80% of kids who watch RU-vid on a regular basis is just going to, what, settle for the narrowest selection of content made by volunteers on their day off? No! They're going to go watch inappropriate content with personalized ads targeted at them in a few years. Which is like a million times worse than watching child friendly content with ads targeted at them now. And what even are adult targeted ads anyway? Shaving cream? Dildos? Because I guarantee that 90% of ads out there includes products that can both be enjoyed by children and adults. You think a 12 year old is not interested in that new brand of milk? They're not interested in action/romance movies?

When you hear a politician say "Let's do it for the children" watch your rights and your wallet because they are after one, the other, or both.

This all seems like a massive first amendment violation.

I feel betrayed by RU-vid... I really do. I LOVE watching RU-vid videos, and seeing RU-vid's new COPPA compliant policies almost made me quit watching RU-vid videos for good. I HATE it... I really hate it. What's even worse is that the fine that you have to pay for breaking the law is just inconsiderate, ESPECIALLY for those who are poor. I feel humiliated and disgusted by RU-vid's new rules. First, I need to get this out of the way... Mario is NOT just for kids. Sonic the Hedgehog is NOT just for kids (it never was, actually...). Most importantly, Kirby is DEFINITELY NOT just for kids despite having bright colors and cheerful looks; therefore, looks can be deceiving, as there are MANY dark moments in the video game franchise. I also need to point out that LEGO is NOT just for kids either. Heck, I've been collecting LEGO for nearly 15 years, and I still collect them. I watch LEGO videos on RU-vid to gain ideas on what to build. I have no idea why most LEGO RU-vidrs marked their channels as "made for kids" when really, LEGO is specifically made for everyone, NOT just kids. The new policy created by RU-vid to comply with COPPA really gets under my skin. I really wish RU-vid made a better strategy to comply with COPPA so that we don't get in trouble, but sadly, this is what we get, and now I'm ticked off. Yeah, it's been 6 months ever since it was put into effect, and I am still incredibly bitter about it. I still talk about it in anger and disgust, and man... I really wish we can go back in time and fix this issue, but since this is real-life, we can't and will have to live with it... :(

One of the things that bugs me the most about this is how it isnt under parental controls and there is no option to shut this off. So it is forcing every person on the planet into child restrictions regardless of how old they are. This policy also prevents these videos from playing on the miniplayer, what in the world does having a miniature screen to watch while browsing other videos have to do with privacy.

I really hate how the government has to be the parent in all of this and not, well, ACTUAL parents.

"Unfair" and "inappropriate" are nebulous terms that don't belong in the law. "Fraud" does. If the FTC protected us simply from fraud, I'd be fine. "Unfair and inappropriate" is just big brother protecting parents from themselves.

Coming back to this video in 2021, I remember that with all of this going on in late 2019 and early 2020, 2020 was supposed to be THE WORST year for RU-vidrs (according to the RU-vid community). However, looking back, 2020 actually ended up being one of, if not, the BEST year for RU-vidrs. Just ask any RU-vidr whose channel has really grown in 2020.
