If you are try to not think of something, that obviously imply the fact that you are thinking of not thinking of that thing, which means you are thinking about it. Kinda like “dont desire” and you end up desiring not to desire. Just because you add negation to the “thought “ ( or rather the word which is a thought ) it doesnt negate the thought. The example about kids is so true- whenever the little girls I babysit don’t want to eat their dinner, I grab a piece and say “I’m going to steal it away” and then they immediately say “no! I want it!” and then eat their food.

As for the warning labels on cigarette packages they may be far more harmful than most would suspect. If you show your mind pictures of cancer you can train yourself to expect it. You will put energy in to negative visualizations of yourself developing cancer. I don't know if this can actually cause or worsen cancer but it sure can't help.

Thinking potatoes are poisonous is not really a nutty idea. They ARE part of the nightshade family. The plants contain toxic compounds present in the leaves, flowers, sprouts, and fruits. But not in the tubers (or in low amounts).
