Thank you so much for this! I’ve been embarrassed by my car ever since my only parking spot at my home was right under a tree that loved to pour sap all over my car. I’ve tried so many products.... I’ve had family members send me articles on how to get rid of it (none of them worked), I’ve even taken my car in for an estimate (no less than $300 to clean!). Simple Green and a razor blade (and about 4 hours) worked for me. I’ve tried the razor blade with rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, hand sanitizer, and thousands of other “sap removal” products... I’ve never tried Simple Green before and that worked the best. Thank you so much for this video!

Brian, My girlfriend and I were about to drop off our car tomorrow to wet-sand off the caked on tree sap for an estimated quote of $250. I happened to run into your video and I wanted to personally thank you and let you know that Simple Green worked FAR better than 91% IPA and Goo Gone!

I operated a mobile automotive trim business for about 25 years. As such, I often had to remove old stripes and decals from automobiles, some of them being 10 or more years old. On the really older stuff, the heat gun would allow me to peel off the vinyl tape, but invariably the old, hardened, baked on glue would remain on the surface. I found that 3M Adhesive Remover worked best for softening the glue so I could remove it with a plastic scraper or a course rag. The trick is using the pointed pour spout that comes with it to apply lots of the stuff on the glue, keeping it wet, and BEING PATIENT! Give the chemical time to work like it was designed to. I found that this same product was also best for removing tree sap, using the same technique: Keeping it wet, lots of remover. after about 30-45 seconds, test the sap with your fingernail. If it's soft enough, wipe it off with a plastic Bondo applicator or better yet, a plastic razor blade, or your finger nail. Naptha based paint thinner for oil based paints worked also, but considerably slower. Watching you using a steel razor blade on that camper top sent chills down my spine. You could get away with it because, well, it was only a camper top. But when removing vinyl striping tape or tree sap from someone's prized Bentley or Vette, or classic Mustang or whatever, if I had allowed the angle of a razor blade to become too high for only a milli-second, and cut into the paint, I would have been shot, stabbed, drowned, suffocated, boiled in oil, cut up into little pieces, cremated, and had my ashes flushed down a toilet.

I know adhesive remover works immediately and so does Goof Off maybe All Purpose lacquer thinner too but would that also take off the clear coat and a small layer of paint?

All of the videos that came up first are for fresh, gooey sap. I have a BLACK '07 Forester that has been parked under white pine trees for years without even washing. This is the best I've found for the baked on spots. I had good success with the taped razor blade method (I used duct tape).

Gahhhhhh👏🏼😃 thank you, THANK YOU! My husband scored me a beautiful but neglected 2009 Cadillac SRX. It’s got baked on sap droppings all over and water stains like I’ve not ever seen. I was able to scrape the sap off the windows and some off the body with an old credit card but the remnant spots… The razor blade trick and simple green, omg I’m about to go to town😊

Krud kutter works wonders on sap. After cutting up pine trees I'll spray it on my hands as I wash them and it comes right off, I've used it on my caddys paint and vinyl top with no ill effects. It's nontoxic and easy to find at your local walmart in the paint section.

This is applicable for older cars but for brand new it will definitely scratch the paint due to the pressure being applied when running and also using the paper towel.

Use LA Totally Awesome Cleaner 3$ for 4lit tub. Just spray it on and leave it for a few min then just wipe the sap of. Or just power wash it you will find the sap has melted and will wash off easily.

You used a shop scraping blade. You can use an actual double edge razor blade, the ones used to shave. They’re a lot sharper and the corners are rounded to prevent cuts (scratches in paint). That way you won’t have to use the tape at the ends of the scraper blade.

I found the best time to remove old tree sap is right after a day of rain while the vehicle is still wet. I test with my finger (not nail) in the rain, if I can move the sap then it is time to wash it with either Simple green or Dawn dish washing liquid. No scratches?

I would get used carpet or mats from an auto breaker/ wrecking yard and replace it if possible. Otherwise you can experiment with various paint solvents. Check the Safety data sheet for the specific paint you have for removal procedure. Otherwise you can get non-expired 2-part paint and paint over it. That will sometimes cause the rest to catalyze and dry. Test any solvents on a small piece you cut from a spot to see if the solvent melts it and makes a bigger mess or not.

NO matter what you use, the area will have to be re-polished and waxed, so why not use something that will take it off effectively and easily? Tree sap needs to be dissolved and the only way to do that is with a solvent that won't take the paint off. NOT acetone!!! I had bottle of Everclear (75% ethanol) on hand so I tried that. Instantly came off with no damage to the surface.
