Whats The Differences Between SPT 1 And SPT 2?
There is only one thing that separates SPT1 and SPT2 and that is the thickness of the coating on the wire. Both SPT 1 and SPT 2 wires are 18 gauge. This means that both wires can only carry 10 amps less than 50 feet. We try not to go over 8 amps on either wire. The difference in the two wire is the thickness of the insulation around the wires.
SPT1 has a thickness of .030 around the 18 gauge wire
SPT2 has a thickness of .045 around the 18 gauge wire.

I've been a journeyman electrician for more than 25 years and after watching this video I got a headache! I give this guy credit for trying!

Why do you have a headache? Do you need Midol?

@JP-uu2rw; You're right about this gentleman! As us electricians say, "he's NOT the brightest light bulb in the box"! I'll give him credit for trying.

Can someone *_please_* tell me the difference between SPT-1/SPT-2 and PWXT wire??? I can't seem to find the answer on the Internet; I only seem to find advertisements for PWXT wire!

that was painful to listen to. So besides spt-2 having .015 more insulation whats the difference? Why have 2 choices if they carry the same load? There has to be a reason the companies would waste time and money making two different wires when they both do the same thing.

are commercially made desk and floor lamps normally made with spt1 or spt2?
@Robert-bz6ox
@Robert-bz6ox 4 месяца назад
That would depend on what country the cord was made and used in.

Do you use lights with 6" spacing or 12"? Thank you for all the knowledge you've shared.

So how do you use this cord all the way around a house? Do you just have multiple plugs?
@ChristmasLightsCommunity

You can get away with one plug. SPT one will be fine. You can run up to 7 A on SPt 1

Quick question I want to run a 300’ run using 0.5 watt bulbs at 12” spacing. Will this work on 1 outlet. Any suggestions would be grateful. Thx, SB

Howdy I’m an electrician in Texas and run a Christmas light business on the side. The number of outlets does not matter if they’re on the same circuit. Typically a circuit of outlets is on 20 amps. You will be completely fine on one outlet unless you have something that draws a lot of power on that circuit.

Quick question for you do you think SP2 would be better for me next year when I start making my own lights and chords you inspired me to do so on my personal house down here in Florida even in November December and January the sun's rays are still high and my current extension cords just in one month start to fade so do you think that sb2 the thicker thickness of the cord would be more practical for my application keep up the good videos glad I found your Channel happy holidays....👍👍👍👍

Even if you do SPT2 its still gonna fade with the sun
