I just bought two brand new Arrma Vorteks. We lost a wheel on one of them on its maiden voyage before we got through the first battery charge. Very disappointing to spend so much money to have it break down on the first use. Your video is super helpful. Now I know how to remedy this. Looks like it's going to be a process I will get really good at by the time I finish thread locking all four tires on both vehicles. Arrma needs to remedy this during production. Thanks again for your video. I'm now a subscriber to your channel brother. I appreciate you.
Thank you! It is unfortunate that there isn't threadlock from the factory. Let me guess, it was your driver's side rear wheel? That is the one that most often has the issues due to the directional torque. I haven't had any others come off since, so you may only need to do the one wheel, but doing all of them will be the best plan, if you have the time. Thanks for watching!
@@rcleesd It was actually the front right tire that came off. However, the left rear was really lose on disassembly so it was close to coming off. I literally just finished taking all four tires off of both vehicles and putting loctite all the way around. Hopefully, thanks to your video, I have remedied any further issue with this particular problem. Thanks again brother.
Thank you for this informational vid! Just got my Granite in the mail a few days ago. First run for it still has yet to happen, but I went ahead and did this to it first to have peace of mind.
Thank you! I just had a wheel come off. Have not had great luck with this RC Truck. I've only used it 3x and had the steering servo die, and now this. I haven't even been that hard on it. Just running it on grass!
That's a bummer, luckily this one is an easy and cheap fix! Give Horizon a call if you have any issues with the motor bearings, if they fail and you can't fix it, Horizon will replace the part for free.
A friend and I both bought Granites and the hub screws had loctite on them and they were OK out of the box, but both our trucks had loose hex grub screws. I took off two of them without any tools! All of them on my truck were loose, and 3 out of four on my friends. Other than that, everything was tight and nothing seems to need attention until we break something. So far, the only breakage has been on the body of my friend's truck, he did no reinforcement and the rear area where the body mounts come through cracked. We put packing tape on the outside, and did some shoe goop on the inside and it seems to be holding up.
Thank you! This got me to the hidden screw that I still don't see on the exploded view. I knew something had to hold it in. Fixed my Big Rock in about 5 min after this video.
My granite tire screw is like that as well it just turns with the same tire your fixing now. I need thread lock because my truck is getting on my nerves. I had just went to home Depot yesterday to buy tools to put the tire back on and now it's that tiny freaking screw inside the bearing that's loose so my tire keeps popping off. I'm a go back and see what size screw driver you used to put in the bearing to tighten the it to the tire. I'm a new RC owner and yes having tour tire fall off while driving it is absolutely embarrassing and super annoying when that's the only thing wrong with it. Thanks for the video. I really learned a lot and your video is the only video I come to for my RC Granite needs and to learn. Thanks for taking time out your day to show your viewers what to do and what to use and how to fix this common problem with this truck. Have a great day & stay safe always.
Good morning! I hope all is well. I've been going thru some things, but to keep my mind busy I've been trying to fix my wheel problem. I bought all the tools needed, permanent thread lock and the bolt or whatever it's called that goes over the screw on tire doesn't want to tighten and keeps coming loose when driving it. I'm irritated and back at it again now trying to figure out what the problem is. Do you have any suggestions and if so please help if you can. I'm fed up and about to ready to sell this truck as is. It cost me a lot, the battery I picked for it wasn't cheap either. Thanks in advance if you can help. I know hearing about it & seeing it is different, but I need any help I can get as to why this tire won't stay on even with the permanent thread lock.
Dude thank you so much! Was able to fix my granite and have it running within the hr with going to the store for locktight. I did red I said fuck it. I'm doing it once hopefully lol... also my little screw that hold the silver pin in tighten up nicely. They don't keep spinning just fyi. Thanks again dude
Just got a new senton and I "tried" doing this. The screw was really tight. After breaking the screw loose, I still was able able to pull the wheel off! What am I doing wrong? I didn't want to muscle it and break something. So I just screwed it back on and called it a day.
Huh. Same truck, no problem. Maybe quality control made a mistake and did mine right. I've destroyed one of those bearings inside the hub, but all 4 wheels stay on no problem. I can't tell you how many packs I've run cuz i don't count them, but here's a hint: i just replaced my front diff with a metal one, and my rear diff has been replaced with the metal one for 2 weeks or so. My servo took a shit in its bed and got replaced 10 days ago, and I've replaced the slipper clutch too. Thanks for the how-to in case my wheels start falling off, but my only current issue is steering slop. Wide stance kit arrives tomorrow, and that'll be the best $30 I've spent. Best $40 I've spent are on the Amain Hobbies Upgrade RC brand Dirt Claw tires. Those things are only about 100 times better and more durable than the dboots Fortress tires, and the tread is half an inch deep. Grip for days, almost too much grip, hence the wide track\stance (whater you call it) kit.
Very nice, thanks for the info. I ran about 10 packs through mine until it finally came off at the skatepark. Fortunately, I was only going about 5 mph so no big deal. I had read about this problem so figured nothing was broken. Now to do all four so another session is not interrupted!
You make it a lot easier to understand and see what’s going on. Thank you, you do a great job. I’m sure I’ll have more issues with my Senton 3S. Tools are on the way for that wheel fix now the esc is crazy, blinking red. Unreal! Yeah these main issues if you could make some vids that would be outstanding! No pressure! Please! 😂! Be safe!
Thank you I was going mad trying to figure out how to fix it I'm new to the RC world. We got the same car and the same wheel fell off of mine but I improvised and used nail polish as thread lock works great again
Same problem. Happened twice. Threadlocked it and it happened again smh haha. Guess I’ll be doing this repair again. 3s batteries really spin those wheels
Don't own a Granite, but a Senton. This has happened 3 times in the past 2 days, all on different wheels. Sadly out of threadlock. Glad it's not just me with wheels falling off on a 3s Arrma.
Alot of people think that they have to buy a new axle to fix it but all u need to do is saw the end of a alen wrench off a litte bit and get a crackhead screwdriver/persicion screwdriver and put it in that after u get the screwdriver end out and screw it back on there because it's the same for the screw but the alen wrench is too short to get down in there and u want to tighten it up u could also lock tight it but if the axle snaps in half and u need to replace it u would have to buy a entire new assembly instead of just the axle as u couldn't unscrew it as its basically glued in there
As soon as I got my granite I threadlocked all those screws and even on the motor mount, those screws I heard were not holding well so I loctited everything and some had loctice some didn't. On the motor mount I put washers on those 2 screws and did my mesh. Then I gorilla taped my body nicely. And finally it was done for the day and wasn't going to drive it that day to give the loctice time to dry. I have not had that problem yet. But yesterday after daily driving it all the time, I striped a diff input gear. Eventually that will happen to you. I did have spare becuase I have a senton to so I put that on and done. The shaft even after loctiting it was a bit loose. But that was fine becuase I had to take it off the diff and put it back on anyways. By the way my diff had very little greace when I opened it up for the first time. So after my diff fix I put white lithium greace in and all set. You should probably check the amount of greace in your diffs.
The same tire just came off my son truck and he's sad because he can't play with it. First time this has happened. I was pissed, but he do be driving it up/ down hills and jumping it. It was just a matter of time.
@@rcleesd I will. I'm going to buy the threadlock tomorrow. Is that the best one to buy? I never heard of it. I'm new to owning a RC Truck. Do u know where I can buy bodies for the truck. My son is a huge NASCAR fan.
@@rcleesd I'm watching your video now and took off what you did, but noticed that I don't see the screw inside the thing that attaches to the tire or there's no silver circle on that part either. I don't know what to do now. I want to take the other tire off to see if it's the same way, but I don't know.
@@rcleesd Hi, do i need hex key or philliphead to fix this? Sorry i am kinda new to this . I got this truck. Dont have this issue yet but just wanna make sure i am ready just incase.
So much power that it breaks and the high rpms can rattle it out evan if it's so tight that u need something to get leverage on your screwdriver or whatever to get it out
Can't remember if I mentioned this in another video, but I have the big rock v3 and my wheel came off on the first run. I used lock tight and it hasn't came off since.
hey lee thanks for video i just had the same issue but it is my front tire and i just bought mine one day ago and not even running it hard dont even know how to fix it lol
Hey RC Lee, is there a particular type of blue thread lock I should buy. I want to do this with my granite cause on of my wheels has this issue. Happens to be the rear right tire lol. I’m looking on Amazon and there are different numbers like m-242 and m-243? Thanks for any help you can give.
Hey Jamie, thanks for watching! I would go with the 243 loctite. 242 was an earlier version. They made 243 to be more resistant to oil. In this new type, a bit of oil or grease on a screw or bolt won't interfere with the loctite setting properly. Use 243, don't put too much, just a thin strip down the threads is plenty....then be sure to let it set overnight! Let me know how it goes!!
Did you have any luck? I always throw out the tools that come with the trucks as they tend to be low quality and strip metal surfaces. We're you able to make it work?
@@rcleesd hahaha hell no. I go harder because 1 I know it usually takes it in stride and 2 worst case scenario is I'm out the same cost as dinner for replacement parts.
@@brutallyaverage8293 So funny, I was just talking to another guy about that same thing...8th and 5th scale is fun, but 3s is almost as fast (just not as stable) and a heck of a lot lighter and cheaper to fix!
Yo my wheel keeps coming off. The wheel nut backs off and the hex and pin comes off. Wheel bearing and cvd never come off. It happens often. Should I loctite the lug nut onto the axle? I got blue threadlocker I use for firearm related things. Thanks.
Yes! 2s is slowest/for small cars. 3s is faster, usually up to 1/10th scale...4s for bigger and faster 10th and 8th scale cars...then 6s and 8s for 1/8 and 1/6 scale huge and heavy rcs. Hope that helps!
@@rcleesd Looking to sell the Granite Mega already, as I bought this for my 6 year old son to use when I have my Losi Lasernut out. First thing the NiMh 8.4 hump pack took 11hours to charge for >15 minutes of play. So I switched it to a 2s lipo and it over heated within 10 minutes. Not sure if I want to stay with Arrma...
@@Saberhawk85 Man, that's not good. Those Mega brushed motors overheat due to not having a fan. I burned up two motors on them and then bought the brushless (comes with a fan for the esc and motor, stock) and haven't had any other issues overheating. The brushless, 3s version also has the ability to run on 50%, 75% and 100% so it would still be able to turn down for a 6 year old. Best of luck!
@@rcleesd I sold the brushed Granite, and will be purchasing the BLX V3 Granite this weekend if my local hobby shop has one in stock. Thanks for the conversation, I have Subbed to your channel.
I just one this past weekend and the front right keeps coming off. It comes off at least twice per charge. I've tried swapping everything from the left side to the right side and still have the same issue. I am taking it back this weekend to see what they say.
Did you use locktite? You have to let it set overnight or it won't work properly. Let me know if you have any other questions, maybe I can help if you haven't already returned it.
I think the screw broke off in the spline part on mine is it worth opening up that u joint to replace just the screw or should I order new drive shafts
If you can get the scree out I would definitely try it....worst case, you have to buy a new u joint or drive shaft. Let me know if you have any luck getting it out!
@@rcleesd thanks! Just found a fun high speed bashing spot. Carlsbad, Faraday and a small side street Camino Hills. If you are on El Camino and turn west on Faraday there a side street Camino Hills and a baseball field on the right. There's a dirt parking lot and then you can see a big field and trail that goes up a hill. Not many jumps but really cool wide-open space and elevation changes to really get some awesome speed going without worrying about hitting much
How is your body in that good of shape like mine has a bunch oh holes and dents in it from jumping 200 feet into the air and coming back down and landing wrong and what not
I definitely don't get close to 200 feet, maybe that's why, but definitely bash it hard...often 20 to 25 feet in the air and 40 to 60 feet long. I did replace the body once, as the previous one was trashed at the the rear of the truck.
All I need is a screw to attach the wheel to the black thing, then I can put it all back on. Do u know what size screw that is? If anybody know can u please let me know. Thank you!
@@rcleesd No. I can't get the tire off to push the rod thru.I don't have the right screw driver to take the screw from the tire to out the black thing in with the rod. I quit. I'm just going to take the truck to Home Depot and see if they can get the screw out and I'll put it back together there. I'm super frustrated. Your video is very helpful tho. I'll be watching it again once I get to Home Depot.
I recently bought a big rock and this just happend 20 minutes ago and it’s my first truck so I have my friend aka mechanic to fix things and he’s gone for a bit so I’m stuck here with nothing
@@rcleesd Now I can't get the tire off to put the black thing on to push the rod thru. I got irritated and quick. I don't have the right screw driver to take the screw out the tire and put the black thing in that way to push the rod thru. Lose, lose situation I feel I'm in.
@@rcleesd I have a Senton 3s so I’m not sure if the factory ARRMA tools are different. I followed your guide because you explained it so much better than any other vids I’ve watched but I finally found a tool set that should reach! Can’t wait to loctite these wheels down, ARRMA should slap some loctite from factory on anything brushless if you ask me... I didn’t have this issue until I threw on bigger tires. I expected the diff to go before watching my tire roll down the road😂 I lost my wheel a full speed lmao.. Just thankful I’m not the only one with this issue and that you have a vid that perfectly explains how to counter the problem! Thanks man 🤜🤛
@@rcleesd for sure bro! The senton is a beast but I’ve recently switched from traxxas so the entire ARRMA line seems beastly compared to my old rustler vxl! I finally quit babying the truck thinking I was gonna break something like I always did with the vxl. Had the senton for 6 months, bashed it like it was my last day living (I even jumped over my 10ft basketball goal onto flat pavement😂) and losing a wheel has been my only issue. These things are overbuilt but they forgot our damn loctite lmao! Looking forward to more vids man, subscribed ✌️Again, thanks for the help
I do have the same problem and i think its a poor design the hole wheel assembly is held by this tiniest screw ever that barely screw in a millimeter in...
Yeah, I think it may have been a quality control issue or torque that breaks it loose. Either way. A dab of loctite at assembly would solve the problem!!
