I know! Poor Thomas the only contestant that knew it gets Bankrupt then Lose A Turn! I was dying! He probably never thought he would get a 3rd shot at it!
@@ambermeanswell To me, the worst part of this show is hardly discussed. The guy who went bankrupt knew the answer, and was with inches of getting a million dollars. It was one notch away from bankrupt. Him winding up with only $1,000 instead of million is also hard to take.
In all my years of watching Wheel, I've never seen such a display of pure cluelessness in one contestant on one puzzle. Each time she attempted to solve it, I laughed more and more until I couldn't breathe after she said "map".
@@dnddetective yeah, now that I think about it, I wonder if any of them really knew what it was until the 'p' showed up. Why risk spinning the wheel if you know the answer. Sometimes greed gets the better of us though...
I looked for this on RU-vid because I watched it live on TV. This was absolutely one of the funniest and at the same time saddest things I have ever seen. 😂 😟
If I worked with this woman every time she did something right, I'd casually say, "While that's another feather in your cap" and continue talking as though I didn't know it was eating her up every time she heard this phrase.
Maybe you shouldn't be too quick to judge when you can't even get "Well, that's another feather in your cap". You don't know the difference between well and while?? That's just as bad as these contestants!
I want to say, that as a former contestant (S39E69), it is more difficult than you think once you are there. While I ended up doing well, on the first puzzle I couldn't guess a crossword with only 2 letters missing (and they were the same letter). People were probably screaming at me too! So enjoy the moment, but be easy on Laura (and Christopher) as Pat Sajak is right that unless you have been there, you don't realize the pressure.
@honeydippedmami Yes it is true. If the puzzle is considered 12 o'clock, then at about 10:30 (above and to the left) are the letter boards. There are 3 lines of letters. The first 2 lines are consonants. They are black on a white background. When a letter is guessed, it disappears, so if you look and the letter is not there, is HAS been guessed. The 3rd separate line is vowels. Black letters on a red background. Same idea, they disappear when guessed. Contestants should be planning ahead as to what they would guess next. But that is easier spoken than done. When I made my bad guess, I don't remember planning ahead, but then the excitement, pressure and speed of the game can be hard to deal with.
@honeydippedmami And, regarding the audience, there is no audience. The only people sitting in the "audience" section are the contestants (as they shoot 1 weeks worth of shows in a day) and some production people.
@@honesteagle98 There is this year, but in season 39 & 38 there was no audience, so you must have gone this year or several years ago. My wife and I went to a taping this year (season 40 and we were in the audience. But the season I taped (39) and the prior season (maybe 2--during covid) there was no audience, so it depends on what season you are talking about.
@honeydippedmami "I'd like to point out the Used Letter Board that our home audience can't see; be sure not to reuse your letters or you lose your turn." - Chuck Woolery on almost every episode he hosted In the old days, it was a chalkboard that also had the totals on it; in many old episodes you can hear the chalk clacking on the board during the Speed-Up round. Later it went to dry erase, now it's a monitor in the rafters.
@@Thomas-rk4rl The minimum prize per round is $1000, so if Thomas actually knew it, he could have solved it right away instead of spinning each time. He would have ended up with the same amount. He didn't know it either until he got the whole final word.
I love how when the guy finally solves it, Pat is like "Yeah, well, there ya go..." and you can almost hear him finish the thought in his head: "...ya f---ing idiots."
Kudos to Pat and Vanna for keeping straight faces. This lady is never gonna live this down. Don’t even wanna know where she got feather in your lap from. And did Christopher think the feather was at the Gap? Ahhh, another fine performance by graduates of the American public school system.
I randomly saw this video and was shocked to see Chris (I went to high school and college with him). He is not a dumb person, not remembering some antiquated phrase isn’t really indicative of intelligence
I rarely ever watch this show, but last night I decided to put it on since Jeopardy was right after it, and I'm glad I did. I couldn't believe what I was watching.
@@honesteagle98 so? He had no money. Why would you solve with no money? Sure you get $1000 bucks if you have less and solve, but the point is to win and get to the bonus round. No one goes on wheel of fortune to get 1000 bucks.
@@ImTheRealJake I’ll take 1,000 over letting others have the opportunity to solve, then again that lady was horrid…. And she lost 6,000+. Good God, how do you live with yourself after losing 6k when you’re that close and guessed 3 times. I understand it’s worth the gamble, but only once.
@@honesteagle98 after taxes and travel expenses, you're basically not winning anything. Unless solving secures your place in the bonus round, it's a remarkably stupid decision to try to solve with nothing.
@@ImTheRealJake I agree, which is why they need to increase the 1,000 given to the contestant’s if they don’t win anything. That hasn’t been updated in at least 15 years, if not longer. Even jeopardy gives 2nd place 2,000
The only possible explanation for this is that those other two contestants are aliens going undercover to study Earth culture, and they accidentally got on the show on their first day.
I just can't believe this is real. What planet are Laura and Christopher from? This was just an unfortunate sequence of events all around and then poor Thomas, bankrupt then miss a turn...WUT the?!
This is a VERY well known expression. To have never heard it in your life is beyond my belief. I guess some people are just never destined to be intelligent. Even Pat was wondering how 3 people in a row could be so ignorant.
To be fair, I've always heard it as "another feather in your hat" as well, which was her first guess. After that failed though, considering the other available letters, I caught on pretty quickly that it was supposed to be "cap". The fact that they guessed "lap" and "map" before considering that as an option, never mind the guy throwing out a "g" as if that fit anywhere, is hilarious.
"'Another feather in your cap' is an English phrase derived from the custom in some cultures of a warrior adding a new feather to their head-gear for every enemy slain." Sheesh, who knew?!
As funny/bad as that was, I maintain that the WOF rules can be totally inane. ALL THE LETTERS were showing; what difference does it make how it’s pronounced? That stuff is for sister show “Jeopardy”. WOF is just a simple game; reveal letters. If I were Pat, after he said “Aitchless,” I’d have said, “It’s pronounced ‘a-kill-ees,’ but you win the round.”
please tell me this is a Saturday Night Live skit. if not this has to be the greatest troll in all history!! if this wasnt recorded... i would never believe it.
Pat Sajak on Twitter after this debacle: "It always pains me when nice people come on our show to play a game and win some money and maybe fulfill a lifelong dream, and are then subject to online ridicule when they make a mistake or something goes awry. Last night’s “Feather in your cap” puzzle was a case in point. Sitting at home, it seems incredible that they couldn’t solve it, but I knew in real time what was happening. The first attempted solve was “Feather in your hat” which, by the way, is how a lot of people say it. So all three players thought it was a good solve, and were stunned when I said it was wrong. Now imagine you’re on national TV, and you’re suddenly thrown a curve and you begin getting worried about looking stupid, and if the feather isn’t in your hat, where the heck can it be? *You start flailing away looking for alternatives rather than synonyms for “hat.”* And, of course, when it’s solved, you want to crawl in a hole. I’ve been praised online for “keeping it together” and not making fun of the players. Truth is, all I want to do is help to get them through it and convince them that those things happen even to very bright people. But mocking them online and calling them names? These are good people in a bad situation under a kind of stress that you can’t begin to appreciate from the comfort of your couch. Good-natured laughter is one thing. Heck, they laughed at themselves. But, hey, cut them some slack. Unless you’re there, you have no idea how different it is in the studio. I have fun with players and I tease them occasionally, but when things go wrong, I feel for them, and I try to salve the wounds on camera and off. So, yeah, it was an oddly entertaining puzzle and it’s okay to laugh at the situation. But have a little heart. After all, you may be there one day. And no one wants to be trending on Twitter"' I think his explanation makes sense. She was so sure it was "hat", and when that was wrong, she moved completely away from things-you-wear-on-your-head and had to guess new things. It's easy to look at someone make a really dumb mistake and choose the default explanation that they are a clueless idiot who can't function in society, but if you think about it logically, you can start to understand why people make dumb mistakes.
I am not very good at solving the puzzles. But this one I knew early on. I couldn't believe she said map and not cap! I would expect a child to give that answer. I laughed so hard! It was a nice birthday surprise.😅
Dr. Seuss would have loved this sequence. I solved it just looking at the beginning of the video before pressing play... but imagine not having heard that phrase growing up... and then having the pressure of being on TV.... you could really screw up too. What I don't understand is... what is the "G" about... feather in your bag I guess. Because that's where you put feathers after you pluck them from the map on your lap.
The funny thing is, Thomas probably knew what it was the whole time but he kept getting unlucky on the spins. When Laura got it wrong twice, he probably thought she was the dumbest person on the face of the planet.
These people are under a lot of stress. For those commenting, when you are live on the show, it is hard to comprehend certain things that normally one is accustomed to. Situational awareness is normally lost and to be ridiculed is beyond any common decency. It is normal because you just want to solve the puzzle and get money. So, for those of you commenting on the “embarrassment” and “disappoinment,” get your lazy asses of the couch and do something productive. Most of you couldn’t even come close to being a contestant on this show. And if you were, when subject to ridicule, you would run off stage instead of continuing to play. Everyone likes to talk about “decency” and how everyone should be treated with “respect” regardless of a simple mistake. Yet, when the time to apply it comes, people start acting all “wise” behind a phone or computer. The utmost level of cowardness.
Before calling the P she could've said ANOTHER FEATHER IN YOUR CAT for god sake. Heck earlier they could've gone even stupider by saying ANOTHER FEATHER IN YOUR DAD. This is just SNL on the real show.
To me the most profound thing in this whole video is Vanna White’s double take on the second wrong guess… She’s probably turned 1 million letters and has never done that once… It’s as if she knew there was no way she could get this wrong again… And then her reaction on the third guess with the head bob back …like OMG
Why family and I watched this last night and were yelling at the TV like are you kidding me. We were all laughing hard. I suspect its bc your on the spot.
0:50 Vanna starts moving in the assumption that her solve would be correct, then stops before they sound the buzzer, knowing it was wrong. And then that little head-turn when she says "map!"
THIS was the viral wheel of fortune moment where they couldn't guess the puzzle?!? I've seen waaay more awkward wheel of fortune moments and it didn't even seem crazy long
