New fans! Beware of book spoilers in the comments! Book readers: Please be careful about spoilers in the comments! Let's see if I can get to 20k subs before the show ends! Please share! And thanks for watching!
This Episode: Unraveled series you’re doing is hands down the best of its kind on RU-vid. It’s entertaining as a long time book reader, and for all my non-reader friends whom are fans of the show, too. In fact, you’ve been excellent not only at keeping them mostly spoiler-free, but hyping up all the possibilities for who the Dragon Reborn could be. If they haven’t already, I’m really hoping the official Twitter and Instagram pages for the show will highlight and link to these particular videos of yours. I feel there are so many non-reader fans of the show out there w/o book fans like us to guide them to such places. Your non-spoiler info videos on certain topics, which you mention in this video, are also really great.
Aaaaaaa sooo glad to see this!!! I had never thought the lil girl was a hallucination. But that does makes sense with how she only interacts with Mat. This series is more and more exciting. The spirit or spine of the books are very visible!!!
***Potential spoilers for episode 5*** Don’t Mat and Rand discuss the young girl being killed in the next episode? If I remember correctly Rand does his best to convince Mat that he had nothing to do with the little girl dying and that it had to be the fade. As much as I like the idea of her being a hallucination, I think the show made it clear that isn’t the case. I may be misremembering however, they might have been talking about the family as a whole but I’m reasonably certain it was specifically about the little girl. Matt was definitely most upset about that aspect of the night because she reminded him so much of his own sisters.
Lauren, your stuff is usually so good, but this time… this time you’ve outdone yourself. This video is stunningly stellar. As always, your editing and effects are spot on, but this one goes above and beyond in the quality of the content and the blend of exposition and foreshadowing against avoiding spoilers. I have been recommending your channel as the absolute best for non-readers who are enjoying the show. Kudos boss. You generate A+ material.
I like how you kept this pretty much spoiler-free, keeping all options open, compared to the books, where we know early-on who the Dragon is. Good job!
The man who can’t forget is Lews Therin and the “I can still hear…” l verses you pointed out at the end make me think of the dragon reborn hearing Lews Therin in their head.
Really love it. She only appeared after he vomits the black venom onto the ground which appears to be alive. Who cares if the little girl's name is Else or Hilda? We need to know if Mat's own senses have been turned against him.
@@balazskiss9252 well, did only Mat see Logain's crazy laugh? That was an odd moment in the show as the final cut of Logain in the cage had him slumped down in the back corner again.
I think it's implied that the second part is just imagined. But Rand mentioned the little girl, so unless we go Inception where we do not what's real anymore, my guess is that the girl was real.
@@balazskiss9252 yeah. Its a shame though. There could be wiggle room as Rand never said anything directly about the girl more just about tye family as a whole, while trying to comfort his mentally breaking friend - so I don't know if he would've even corrected Mat to say "there wasn't a girl, just a boy." Further, unless the Brigette doll is a manifestation of the Shadar logoth venom, it wouldn't have made sense to see it on the ground as they rode away unless the girl was real. Wow, look at me saying a whole lot of nothing here...
As always, no matter how much I enjoy other creators' content out there, when I get to your videos I'm continuously blown away by how you're playing in a different league. I've said it so many times in the past, but your channel deserves to blow up with the influx of new fans. Keep doing what you're doing. I hope that the success of the TV series will be mirrored here, as more and more eyes are put onto the content you put out.
As a book reader who loved the books and was totally disappointed in the show, I appreciate your channel beyond words. I don’t know how you make the show make sense and actually sheds light enough for the readers and non-readers alike. I enjoy the show by watching your channel instead of just watching the show which i borderline hated the writing (does that make sense?-it does to me lol). The way you’re able explain without spoilers is just awesome and the way the video was made is epic. -a brand new subscriber here.
Great analysis of a stellar episode, and just in time before the next installment! I appreciate how you maintain a (mostly) spoiler-free approach, as they’ve been a superb supplement for my show-only father, who is thoroughly enjoying the series, but admits to needing a little extra help understanding the lore and complexities of the setting. Subbed, and keep up the good work!
Fantastic video! As someone who hasn't read the books, this was VERY helpful. Just signed up to support you and get early access to your videos. Thank you.
Another excellent video and I had a thought while working this morning. The Grinwells, and how Mat is standing there watching the Fade.... Maybe it was another party present who scribbled on the wall, one that also has an overwhelming desire for the knife in question. (Yes this is cryptic, for spoilers but wanting to keep the new fans wondering.)
Wow, this is so good! I love how well it all flows when you point out all those details, theories and various thematic connections. It's both informative (even for a devoted book reader) and soothing.
I love how you just stick to what we know from the series. I want new people to experience this in a way I can not since this is not my first time. And the series gives me new content. :D
Lauren!!!!!!!!!! How do your videos get better and better?!?! I have goosebumps listening to you talk, and I’ve read all the books MANY times and I know what’s going to happen! This is a fantastic video for new watchers who haven’t read the books
First off. I would like to say that you done a great job. It must be hard been a book reader and knowing all this but you have to put it as in the point of just a show viewer. Second I love how you add the amazon xray short videos. Will you be doing more about them in the future?
This is another great video, Lauren. There's so much to dig in and think about how things compare between the books and the show. You do an excellent job of highlighting interesting points. I have a couple of observations on the subject of shields. First, to my knowledge, once the shield is settled on a channeller, there is no way for this person to channel at all unless the shield is removed. Yet we see in this episode that Logain channels when attacked by Stepin, which IMO should not happen. Second, Stepin axe blades seem to slow down when touching the shield and penetrate slowly towards Logain. This doesn't make much sense to me as the shield is a psychic barrier for the channeller and should not be a physical barrier to external forces. IMO, Stepin blades should cut cleanly though the shield and hit Logain, or alternatively, the blades should bounce back if the shield is meant to block physical attacks. So the blades slowly creeping in doesn't make much sense although I understand that it is more cinematographic. As far as I remember this situation is not explicit in the books in any detail so I don't think there is a 'canon' for this. So it is possible that this is a side effect of shielding that is not fully explored in the lore, as there is very little/nothing on the interaction between psychic/magic forces and physical forces.
Thank you! Great comment. I think that they have definitely taken creative liberties with showing channeling. My head canon is that they were putting a shield of Spirit and of Air on him, and Stepin broke through the Air. Also, I think that Logain was not fully shielded (meaning, it hadn't fully settled yet) which is why he was able to push back and I think Stepin was a helpful distraction that gave Logain "access" to the outside of the shield bubble. I really do think it was a mini version of how the Dark One was able to touch our world through Lews Therin and the Hundred Companions' channeling to taint Saidin.
You do an awesome job of speculating and asking hypothetical questions from the point of view of someone who is approaching the series for the first time! That must be tough for a long-time fan! I love the little clips you put in to illustrate the subject matter. Captain America had me weak. Keep up the good work!
Blood ashenly brilliant as usual. To echo so many other comments, you strike the perfect balance between explanation and speculation vs spoiler and this is now the must-watch guide for non-readers, like my friend Jurgen who finds your work epic (but asks that you slow down for a breath just a tad to allow a moment for the info to sink in).
Haha, I edit out all of my breaths to try and keep it moving. I hate to make a 25 minute video! I'm going to try to simplify my scripts a bit in the future and try to give everything a little more time to... breathe!
Fantastic review thanks Lauren. A wonderful way to use the episodes to explain the law and to point out a few things that people might have missed. Loved it, well done!
Thank you for pointing out that the man at the beginning of episode 1 is not Logain. So many tubers talk of him like he was Logain, don't they have eyes to see he's a different man..
Didn't Rafe make a mistake when Logain mentioned hearing ALL the previous dragons talkingto him? Lews Theron was THE DRAGON. The world has been waiting for his rebirth. Hence Dragon REBORN. I enjoyed this breakdown and look forward to your future ones
No, this wasn't a mistake, this was Logain's madness. I'm sure he believed the voices he was hearing... the problem is, it was just insanity from channeling the corrupted male half of the One Power. Those past voices were not telling him the truth.
Probably has been mentioned but I had heard from others that she may have also been producing actual light (as the cave lit up when that hadn't happened previously with channeling) as sort of a by product of doing that all by instinct, Logain shielded his eyes because he has been inside a dimly lit cave for a long time and wasn't able to see her weaves but the actual light.
Great video, as always! I love the Helga as a hallucination theory, Way of the Leaf as MLM scheme, and the parallels you drew between pairs of story elements - the first pair being Thom's song and the events surrounding the previous Dragon, with the second pair being what happened to Logain and the content of Moraine's episode 1 monologue. Your eye for this stuff is incredible and you explain it so well - giving me even greater appreciation for the incredible storytelling that Rafe and his team are doing. Thank you!!!
If they're implying that Moiraine or Logain think that being the true Dragon implies remembering his past life, I don't like where this is going at all. It's completely undermining a major point and mystery of the story. Remembering past lives is believed to be an impossibility, and normally it is; no one has any conception of the Rand-LTT connection. And even at the end it's not clear whether anyone really believes it, except maybe Nynaeve - and she views it as fundamentally illegitimate and has no grasp of its critical importance. It's only the Forsaken who seem to entertain any idea of it. (Why is that? Interesting....).
This approach to ep4 is amazing. As someone who is currently reading the books (on book 8) I love all the hypothesis you throw out there for non book readers. Really great insight. I’ve shared this video to all my friends who are new to WOT and are watching the show.
Loved your videos! it Shows you clearly put effort into it, You could be the Alt Shift X for Wheel of time!. Just a friendly little SEO tip you might want to put something like "Wheel of time [Season x, Episode x, Episode name] Explained" or something to that effect so that people who might be new to the show and not part of the established community might find your videos. I don't know if the wider show audience will get the reference "of Unraveled" in terms of Knowing the wheel spins the Pattern and that determines actions of the age. Ant that your titles reference unraveling it to understand the episode.
Hey, I bet they reused the two rivers cave for logain's cave. They would only have to drain and fill the pond, rearrange the rocks, film from a different angle so that the holes would be in different positions
Highest quality content, I love the theory your friend had about Helga grinwell. Only half a day wait for EP. 5 - I hope it's gonna be as awesome as EP. 4 :D
I love seeing that subscriber list grow. Plus more Patreons! I'm rooting for you to get enough to be able to make videos full time! You make the best WoT videos on the Internet. I was blown away by the possibility of Matt's hallucinations of the little girl! Ep. 4 is the best one yet. I can't wait for Ep. 5!
"Another bond that's featured is the connection between those who lived and the ones they have lost", I did not expect to shed a tear on a WoT review! Great script!
This was hands down my favorite episode so far. Seeing Alvaro Morte as Logain was so amazing because I’m a huge fan of Money Heist & he stole every scene.
Are you going Live after the show tonight? Great Video as usual. Your job should give you paid leave during these last 3- 4 weeks. I'll talk to them for you, OK.
This post will contain a potential MASSIVE spoiler for the show, so any non-reader that has been enjoying the show and doesn’t want the current biggest mystery of the show revealed, please consider this the point where you stop reading this comment. This is your final warning, folks. Duck out now if you don’t want things spoiled. I will say that there is one possible too-spoilery part in this video, shortly before the 2-minute mark. I’ll leave it at that, except to say one of the characters might be a bit too recognizable, especially against the backdrop used in the shot and in light of one of the characteristics you mention later in the video. I did just have one of my non-reader friends text me and ask me about it, and whether this person depicted was the Dragon Reborn. I admit I love playing the, “Watch and find out” game. But if she picked up on it it’s possible others have, too.
I absolutely loved the last episodes. Definitely the best one yet. All this bits and pieces we viewers got to further understand the concepts. And even though the whole Logain story never openly happens in the books (at least from what I can remember?) it was a very good fit for the series to make people aware of certain things. Also the Nyneave scene was great. Again, totally off from the books, but from a series standpoint it made a lot of sense. Almost got me thinking it was a dream or they all died for some reason lol. Which is actually nice to not continuously know what is going to happen in the show. Getting more excited with each episodes and I think I finally managed to throw all my comparisons out of the window and really just enjoy the series as a series. Btw, are you planning anything along the lines of "this is how it went in the books" or similar for people that want to know more?
Spoiler ahead........................................... I wonder if Liandrin isn't black ajah yet. The way she reacted to Kerene's death and nearly burning herself out suggests she's still loyal to the tower.
