This is grreat guys, I been really feeling it this week in my back and abs. I was really surprised how hard I found lifting it up in front of me and it got my heart pumping, and I realised I was really working my core muscles. I never realised I could. Been in the chair 18 years.... I guess you live and learn. Cheers.
trying my best to do these with my limited range of motion is a real workout! i'm pretty severely disabled and if anything i want to be doing this for my mental health. losing weight, if i do at all, is just a bonus. i'm not able to use any traditional means of mental healthcare so i'm doing what i can. this is the first wheelchair workout i've found where the coach specifically says its ok to do it with whatever range of motion you have and not to push yourself. it's such a small thing but it really makes me feel comfortable if i can't do these big motions, such as lifting something above my head.
I’m glad I found this on 44 years old with muscular dystrophy and part time in a wheelchair I can walk but with assistance of holding onto things due to falling and breaking my ankle in five spots and doing some major nerve damage and lost a lot of mobility and strength this exercise in a few others that I’ve watched in your videos will help me a lot and help me gain a lot of strength even though it’s been 10 Years in a chair this will help me
I’ve been wheelchair bound for around a year, sadly the medications I’m on have made me put a LOT of weight on which is making me extremely depressed, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for, thank you guys ever so much,I’m absolutely stoked to try these exercises but I’m kinda worried because the reason I’m wheelchair bound is due to such a silly little fall, but it left me with chronic sciatica with impinged nerves and superior migration of the disc which has cause narrowing of my conus, plus scheuermanns disease,so I have immense agony in both the top and bottom to mid of my spine so I’m worried that I’d hurt myself doing these exercises,do you by any chance have a video that would suit my injuries but still help me to trim my size down especially on tummy, butt and thigh areas if possible please,if so please please reply with a link so I can check it out please. Also, please continue with these kinds of videos as you help so many people who would otherwise be overlooked and neglected in this respect so I think you guys are absolutely awesome, you most definitely have a new subscriber in me! May god bless yall
I had the same thing happen with medications!! I gained so much weight and after 4 years I’m sick of it!!! I want it gone, but I barely have any motivation and I’m hoping to continue with this!!
I understand the feeling. I became paralyzed in 2011. I’m 6’2” and was 200lbs before the accident and 2 years later I was 300lbs. It was one of the hardest things to overcome. My depression stemmed from me thinking I wasn’t enough for a woman and my lack of understanding. I started reading up on my paralysis and started weight lifting. I’m down to 190lbs and My upper body is in a better shape than it was before the accident. The best thing I can suggest is do as much physical activities you can do, pushing yourself past the limits you think you have.
Take everything really really easy and slow. Have you ever tried keto, AKA Atkins, AKA low carb diet , you lose weight like crazy and you don't crave food
These workouts are great, ive been working out from the chair for years and figured most of it out already, but I wish i had this when I was like 15! good work :)
I’m a part time wheelchair user, usually for longer days/walks and in flare ups of my condition. It’s nice to find realistic exercises as high intensity workouts trigger my flares and severe fatigue. I used to run daily before things progressed and I miss exercise badly and having confidence about my body
Nice I really like these! I had broken hip surgery a month ago and was looking for ab work to do from my wheelchair. Can't exactly do crunches right now and I'm feeling pretty pudgy. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for doing this! I am paralyzed from the waist down and this is at the top of what I can do. A change I make if my back is hurting is I scoot out then lean back. That way it's still a good workout but I don't annoy my arthiritis.
i do believe high paras and quads have some stomach muscles as I have done some recents SCI studies, even found out i had some working pelvic floor muscles, Had I known this back in 1985 when i was injured i would of worked on this. It's not too late though, when i do try to work core muscles i also do some visualization, picture all the core muscles working, you should or could do this for all muscle groups, i do believe it helps. really am enjoying your workout videos during this pandemic thanks alot Ben
These exercises have really helped my core! But my Phisio would like me to stretch my ecentric quads to assist in my follow through in my walking training. I have a problem between T10 & T12. Thank you for any exercise recommendations and please keep the videos coming they really help! Helen
These look like ideal exercise to even do at home - huge thanks for making the vids! One question that I have, is: are there any tips you have for keeping a flat back? I have a kyphotic deformity (because I didn’t have fixation surgery following breaking my back, which in turn has meant that I’ve developed lordosis/anterior pelvic tilt, thins I’d like to keep my eye on/reverse if possible...but; I do have to be careful with my back. For reference I am in the region of T10 complete.
I've been doing some resistance band workouts on my upper body in my recliner because I have to keep my legs elevated. I feel it working in my midsection. But I'd like your advice as to whether it's even beneficial
this is wonderful! I have spina bifida and I have struggled with keeping weight off and strengthening my core. I do have a question. How much does the ball weigh? How much resistance is the band?
@@AdaptToPerform are any of the products latex? I am deathly allergic to latex so I have to he SUPER careful with equipment like that :) thank you so much for your reply!!!!
I'm a T5 para, no way I can sit that straight and lift ball without falling over. It doesn't look like the guy performing the exercise is really paralyzed. Don't think this would work for most paras or quads.
Sam is a c5-c6 incomplete quad. i do videos for as many different people as possible and this one in particular was highly suggested to me and consistently being asked for more of the same. if theres anything you would like to see please let me know
No 2 disAbilities are truly alike. While I am able to do a lot, another with similar diagnosis & disAbility cannot, but don't call quits based off the cant's; focus on the "can". If it means sitting back in chair, with only 1 arm working, with or without weights, that's a first step, then other arm, soon you may be doing both arms, then scooting forward & so forth. The key is any activity, & looking for "how can we make this work". No success happens without try, & one shouldn't judge a person, or their abilities, by whether or not someone "looks" disAbled.
Not everyone who uses a wheelchair is paralyzed, and there is no one specific picture of "paralysis" that everyone fits into. Even if these exercises don't work for you, they're helpful for a lot of other people, and it looks like there are plenty of videos with various exercises and workouts that would be feasible for someone with your level of injury.
Thank you for this!! Question do you have an amputee friend that would do leg exercises as you teach it? I have a hemipelvectomy amputation and use a wheelchair 100% of my day, and looking for leg exercises to tone and strengthen.
I just found your page on Pinterest; this is very good content. Do you have lighter core exercises for over 60 folks who are mostly homebound and cannot make it to a gym?
+dukessl13 I'm c7 and neither do I. That's why I bought in my mate Sam here to help out. If you can do the movement but no balance try sitting back in the chair more
I was given an exercise for core strength by a neurophysio. Lie on your back and hold your arm up at 90°. You can hold a weight or do it without. Make circular motions with your arm. Do it with your arm at different degrees toward the ground/whatever you're lying on. I hope that makes sense.
@@aarikashaffer2712 hi Ben , I was Born with SPINA BIFIDA/ HYDROCEPHALUS only found your video's a few day's ago I HAVE'NT seen ALL of them , but as Aarika Shaffer just mentioned they are GOOD for your TUMMY just need help from the WASTE DOWN as I have VERY LITTLE FEELING now due to a BAD FALL back in 200/201 posting from the UK
I have a huge lumbar scoliosis that turns my body to the right forming a "C" Can I do this exercises after the surgery? I hear from other guys that the surgery is huge and not recommended
I'll be honest I'm not in a situation where I can give you advice here as I won't seeing your x-rays or understanding fully the extent of your operation. I suggest you talk to your surgeon to find out when you can exercise post injury
I need some help. I have been told to work out as much as you can. But I fear if I don't give myself a number of how times to do it in a day and hours, it's gonna be the whole I'll do it tomorrow shabang. How many times a day do you work out and for how long?
See i would love to do core workouts as i am in a wheelchair. But no matter what i try,it hurts my back. What am i doing wrong? I feel like my core is engaged
Ah I see! Well you can't target fat loss to a specific area just all.over. You'll have what is called quad/para belly. It's where your transverse abdominals are paralysed, they hold everything in but they can't now so it pushes out. Ill have a video on this in the near future to explain fully 👍
I am a quadriplegic. Peace. I am looking for quadriplegic exercise for belly tone. I believe talking about diet is a good topic too. I like helping everyone too. Unable to do most things I can see how others can get physically fit if they are willing. I am a Christian too. It is like preaching and teaching. As I help others I try to practice it as well. I find it most difficult when the diet is not healthy. Life is not easy nor health. I can't wait till Jesus returns, but as I wait I work out to keep my vitals strong.
When you are doing the movements don't focus on moving the arms. Use your trunk to move and your arms come for the ride. It takes a little getting used to. This workout is mainly for people who have a very weak core, so those with more normal function might not feel the benefit. I will put out more advanced ones in the future
So they do work the shoulders a little but try locking them still and only think about moving using your core muscles instead. It's easy to let your shoulders do the work 👍
I have core workouts on this RU-vid channel just for that! Some wheelchair users can use their legs still just like some wheelchair users can't use their arms so wouldn't be able to do most of my workouts
