We're proud to have worked on this project for Wheeling, WV City Government's HGTV Hometown Takeover submission, and we're proud to keep telling the stories of our community, both past and present. We aim to help preserve, and to continue building on the things that make Wheeling so extraordinary. The Nelson Jordan Center is an important part of East Wheeling, and we're thankful to all those who shared their stories with us.

I may be visiting Wheeling in the foreseeable future; this mall town possesses tremendous potential! I can envision investing in the youth center, and the Blue Building as a creative Arts Venue.

I was born here; grew up here but had to move away many years ago. Where my roots are and where my heart will always be. So much beauty beneath ages of neglect in so many of these Victorian homes. Time, money and effort--- if only...

Great video. Looks like a beautiful town. Hopefully lots of those buildings can be restored and saved. Some lovely people represented in the video too, hope they are all getting their needs met in Wheeling, and not being pushed out by gentrification.

It used to be a beautiful town 60/70 years ago. Sadly not much more than a ghost town now.

I have been following Betsy Sweeny's journey. She sparked my interest in purchasing and rebuilding in Wheeling. I am very interested in this town. I am so happy to see diversity in Wheeling. I already saved a house to my Zillow. I am thinking about a visit now. this is cool to see a diverse community. I am very use to diversity in Houston. I am very impressed.

@@ChristyCallahantake a trip here before you decide anything... it is NOT what y'all think here... lived here all my life... people born & raised here can't even afford to pay rent let alone make it any better... crackheads EVERYWHERE... I live in sec 8/HUD & have for 15 years... if we had the money for a home & money to help run a sanctuary or help the city we would... the last 20 years have NOT been kind to anyone here... we're struggling & by that I mean EVERYONE who lives here... let alone revitalize anything... this city has been causing homelessness left & right... people born & raised here would love to make it welcoming... but the city needs to help those here first before we can be something of value to anyone else... 🙏🏼🕊️🙏🏼 GBY

My grandparents lived at 625 Main St in North Wheeling. I lived on the Island. My other Grandma lived in the Grove. I know when I told people that I worked with that I grew up on the Island they asked me if our mail came by way of coconuts. Had a hard time convincing them. Stay safe. Sandi Norman

Have you’ve seen the old Wheeling, WV Elks Lodge building? A attorney own it’s it now. You should see the old lodge room in that past Elks lodge!

Wheeling needs new leadership with a vision for the city. It need a theme to rebuild and revitalization. Wheeling could become the Nashville of WV with taverns and breweries. Possibly have outlet shops. Every street needs repaved and take back what it once was. I was born in Wheeling, loved it but also sad to see what it has become.

Am building something like this in my country. I have been getting inspiration for such architecture for a while now. Even though the road ahead looks challenging, I do it at all costs. Just a small town/village at least with such character.

I love this city's geography, history, architecture and urban infrastructure. It has the potential to be a great city again. I live in Philly and if Philadelphia can do it I believe that Wheeling can also.

Job pay is stagnant cost of living keeps rising and don't get started on the rent the prices are out of control compared to what people are making not to mention drug addiction is running rampant and there's not nearly enough focus on rehabilitation.

Jed, you’re right. I’ve seen this as I’ve applied for positions in WV. I’m in NM by our southern border, as a social worker I see what having a weak administration does to our community. Not to get too political- but it appears ole Jim Justice is a RINO and doesn’t have y’all’s interest at heart. Appears that he keeps talking about taxes and doesn’t realize that higher wages, infrastructure, industry and trades need to be expanded and funded. The starting pay for a social worker in WV is $13 an hour a 3 bedroom house is about $1200 in Charleston and the rental company expects you to earn 3X the rent. I wanted to come over and help folks struggling with addiction, but the wages are just too low.

I will keep Wheeling WV and her citizens in my prayers. Wouldn’t it be great if one of the Elon Musk’s of the world invested some time and money into this town. Our Country is losing its skilled craftsmen - maybe just maybe it can be created in Wheeling - providing skilled artisans and craftsmen who who can make some of the beautiful creations this country used to make like furniture; moldings, etc. Now what we get is junk we import from China 🤦‍♀️

I was amazed by other state's roads down in the deep South about 37 years ago, but now all the infrastructure is wearing out everywhere, especially in areas that are not in a city limit or taken care of by the counties.
