When a BF-109 spared a B-17

December 20th 1943, a badly shot up B-17 struggled to stay in the air, at the controls Charlie Brown. Passing low over a German airfield, it was spotted by Franz Stigler who raced to intercept, just one victory away from receiving the Knight's Cross. What happened next would be called one of the most incredible acts of kindness between enemies.
Thanks to Adam Makos for allowing us to use the footage of the first meeting of Stigler and Brown. You should also read the full story in the book 'A Higher Call' by Adam Makos & Larry Alexander.
We received many requests to do this in our new style. We hope you like it.

I dint even think its fair to call him a Nazi, just a German pilot. The Nazis were the men who poured there brutal ideology into the hearts of the German people and cartied out Hitlers ideals, like the SS for example amd some of the Wehrmacht. But nit every German was a Nazi but a man fighting for his country.

Damn.. This story is so beautiful, and I had to wipe away some tears. See.. Not all Germans were bad, and definitely not all of them were Nazi's. Most of them were just the same as others, but were fighting on the wrong side. There are so much more beautiful stories like this one, and I keep explaining this to people, but unfortunately, most people won't listen, they ignore, and say they were all evil. Huge respect for this German fighter pilot!

Had he shot down the Pub and earned that Knight's Cross, Stigler would've been a mere footnote in history, only remembered by historians and the biggest history nerds. By sparing the Pub, he not only did the right thing and saved multiple lives, he cemented his place in history. He'll be remembered as an honorable man who did the right thing, against his training. He found a brother through it, too. RIP to both Brown and Stigler. I hope that the rest of the crew who lived long enough got to know who Stigler was. This story made me tear up.

it was because of this that I started to understand more deeper and emotionally that not of us who fought in the war were bad guys and that goes double for the Germans. I guess those who were not Nazis were the good guys fighting for survival for their nation like Stigler did and those who left the Nazis and joined a resisting force (like we saw in the battle of castle itter in 1945). Again this story with Sabaton "no bullets fly" is what made me understand that not all were villains.
@Rynigin

You got that right!!! I first got into Sabaton with the Bismark song. It's 80's rock and it's real history. One lucky shot took out the Bismark. I hate that a lot of people are afraid of history. I play video games and in all of the Call of Duty games the so called Germans. They won't call them Nazi's. They will just say Germans. Plus they will not use the Nazi Swastika Flag. They use World War One symbols. I wish somebody would make a period game without the lies. Most people don't know history simply because somebody doesn't want us to remember it or know about it.

I’ve done something similar to this in War Thunder, but it was just me and my friend, him being a bomber and I being the escort Bf-109. At first people didn’t get it once they saw it, but a few people recognized what were trying to shed light on. The fact that the German pilot spared the B-17 and later became the pilots friend warms my heart.
