I love that, no matter how many times I've seen someone play Xenoblade for the first time, there's that sense of "huh, I can't start the game yet. I want to experience this title screen."

I first played Xenoblade Chronicles only recently. Technically I started it like in November or something, but I only finished it at the beginning of the month. EVERY time I booted up the game, I let the title theme play out completely, and refused to do anything until it was finished. So when I finished the game, and heard the title theme again with the changed image, I am not ashamed to say I shed some tears.

Also for future xenoblade fans since the franchise is growing faster than any other, his videos can probably be the reference for a lot of people who want to get into these amazing stories (Which currently are not too many games). Also I cant wait for him to react to future xenoblade games announced.

Tips that I wish I had known: Accept Every Quest: It should be the first thing you do when you enter a new area. This will mark the quests on your map, so you can do some on your way to the next story objective. Side quests completely replace grinding in this game, they’ll get you tons of xp. There’s no reason to say no to one, you can accept infinitely many at once. Quests are also different between day and night, so change the time to get more quests. Basically, side quests are the easiest way to make the game easier. If you’re stuck on a boss, don’t be afraid to back off and do more quests to level up rather than butting your head against a wall. Tension: Look at the character portraits on the left side of the screen. The characters’ emotions represent their tension level. High tension buffs characters a ton, so you always want it. If the character looks sad in the portrait, then they have low tension, which nerfs them so hard that they are practically useless. If they have low tension, run up to them and press B to encourage them, as it gives them a huge tension boost. Also, doing the quick-time events that occasionally appear gives you a huge boost in tension. It’s important to always nail those (it’s always the B button). Familiarity with Arts: Read up on what each art does in the menu. Shulk has arts that do extra damage from the back or sides of enemies, and these effects are extremely strong. Always use these positional arts. (Shulk’s backslash is one of the most damaging arts in the game when used from behind, it deals several times the damage when used from behind). Furthermore, you should try setting each of the different characters as party leader, and experimenting with each’s moveset. The best way to learn their arts is by trying them out yourself! It’s nice to be familiar with what your party members are capable of, so you can play around that. Aggro: This was actually one of the first tutorials, but it’s easy to overlook, as aggro typically isn’t that important in most games. All attacks of yours generate aggro, and the party member with the most aggro is the one that enemies will target. Aggro is marked by a red ring around the party member who has it. Reyn is a tank, while Shulk is more of a glass cannon. Thus, you don’t want to just spam arts as Shulk, otherwise he’ll steal all the aggro and get mowed down by enemies. You want to balance using enough arts to deal significant damage with avoiding enemy aggro, which you likely will get used to over time. (Keep in mind, the party member with the most aggro will also be the most likely to lose tension if enemy attacks are too strong). Break->Topple->Daze: Pink arts inflict break, green arts topple, and brownish-yellow arts daze. Topple requires break, and daze requires topple. This combo can be used to stun enemies and drastically increase damage done to them. Always aim to do it (though you kind of have to hope the AI sets you up for it). The break topple daze status can be seen at the top of the screen. Agility: Long story short, it’s one of the most important stats in the game. It serves as both your dodge and accuracy stats, meaning that whether you or the enemy have a higher agility stat often determine who wins. Chain-Attacks: The strongest attack in the game. Every subsequent attack in the chain attack deals more damage. Use the same color of art multiple times in a row to multiply the damage. The higher the tension and bond between your party members, the longer the chain attack will be. This is what you should always be working towards in battle. Conclusion: I hope this all helped, but isn’t too overly wordy/confusing. I played this game for the first time last year, and it quickly became one of my favorites. These are just some things I wish I knew early on, so that I didn’t die so much in the beginning, and so that I could really understand what makes this game so great. If you take away anything from this, let it be the sidequesting. Always get every quest as soon as you enter a new area. You’ll find yourself accidentally earning a lot of exp. Once again, I really hoped that this helped, and that you continue to enjoy this great game!
@joshuabean7805
@joshuabean7805 3 года назад
One small correction, there are arts on characters that can force topple or daze bypassing the normal prerequisites which is very handy when you run into enemies that are immune to break. Also an enemy normally immune to break may be able to have the status applied to it if done during a Chain attack. There are situations in which you do NOT want to inflict topple but he's a long way away from any of those right now.

Initiate all side quests. You don’t have to complete them but more often than not, you will naturally complete the quest just by exploring the world and playing the story OR will have actually already completed what the NPC is asking for and will, in that case, just get some free EXP.

Xenoblade is one of those magical games in which playing it is almost a right of passage. Also positioning is really important in battle. You have to be close enough to auto attack, otherwise just running around leaves you wide open. Your team will usually consist of a Tank that draws the attention of enemies, a DPS that focuses on dealing damage, and a Support that focuses on buffs and healing. Understanding this trio is essential to mastering the combat system. Anyway next episode please I can’t wait to see someone experience Xenoblade for the first time

Since you were having trouble with the game's combat, I'm going to be giving a few tips and help with the controls, while explaining the game's combat to make your life on Bionis WAY easier. This is a lot, so please take your time to process this info as Xenoblade is a complex game that takes time getting used to and is extremely fun when it all clicks in your head. 1.You auto-attack and use Arts when fighting. Think back to FF7 and how you would manually select the "Attack" command. Xenoblade doesn't do that and think of auto-attacking as the game spamming the "Attack" command for you while you're free to use Arts. Arts do not consume MP or any resource like MP because it doesn't exist in Xenoblade. You have cool-downs that are time based like when you use Back Slash for example, you have to wait a few seconds before you can use it again. Then there's Talent Arts which is the gray circle in the middle of your regular Arts. Talent Arts DO NOT recharge with time, instead they recharge by auto-attacking and an example would be using Shulk's Turn Strike (and later Activate Monado for various Monado Arts). So Arts like Slit Edge, Back Slash, Light Heal, etc. wait for those to recharge. Using the Monado requires auto-attacking. In short, Auto-Attack to fill up your Talent Art, Use normal Arts and wait them to cool down, and use your Arts when they have a blue "!" on the icon like when using Back Slash when behind an enemy or on the side with Slit Edge to be very effective. 2.Party members. Since you're using mainly using Shulk like I did, I'll tell you how he works. So Shulk isn't like Cloud Strife where Cloud can take a few hits with no problem as Shulk pretty much has a body made of glass. He's really sharp and painful to the enemies and cuts through them easily, but he can be easily shattered. Reyn is the opposite as he's the tank of the group. He is built to take damage and distract the enemy while Shulk shreds them apart. I also heavily advise switching to playing as Reyn and later party members to spice up the combat and keep it from going stale. You can go through with Shulk all the way like I did, but it's up to you how you want the party to be like. After all, you can have fun with whoever you like best in battle and stick with them. 3.Break, Topple, and Daze. So there's this important mechanic known as Breaking your enemy. Break is a status effect much like in FF7 when you would cast BIo and poison the enemy. Now, when you Break an enemy it opens the door (Kingdom Hearts reference.) to Toppling and Dazing your Opponent. Break on it's own does nothing, but why it's SO important is because of what you can do with it which is Toppling and Dazing. What Topple does is that it knocks an enemy down for a short period of time and they can't attack you. You can extend this by Dazing them and there's an infamous strategy known as "Topple Locking" and there's a reason why it's well-known in the Xenoblade community. HOW to inflict Break and later Topple and Daze is with certain Arts. Shulk's old Talent Art Turn Strike infilcts Break and the door is open for Reyn to use Wild Down which inflicts Topple. Don't worry, even when you have the Monado you can inflict Break later on and even Daze. In short, use Arts that are pink to inflict Break and Green Arts to Topple and yellow Arts to Daze. 4.The Party Gauge and Chain Attacks. So the bar in the Top Left section of the screen is The Part Gauge and you can revive party members as they can with you and initiate a chain attack. The Party Gauge fills up by landing a critical hit, killing enemies, using Arts properly like Slit Edge on an enemy's side etc., and Burst Affinities (The QTE of pressing B during battle I'll explain those later). The Party Gauge as a whole is made of 3 blocks. When a party member or you reach 0 HP, you can revive them by spending 1 block of the party gauge. When you die and there isn't a block filled out in The Party Gauge, you lose the fight and have to start over. Now comes the REAL fun with this gauge as it's more than a Revive button. When your Party Gauge is full with 3 blocks, you can initiate a Chain Attack and to do this, you must go to the Talent Art and press up on the D-Pad. You will see the icon to Chain Attack and when you do, time stops and you can use any Art of your choice free of charge. Back Slash on cool down? Start a Chain Attack and you can use it immediately. Not only can you use Shulk's Arts, but you can manually use Reyn's as well and eventually the 3rd party member. Don't be too panicked when using your other Party Member's Arts as you have plenty of time to select an Art. Chain Attacks are VITAL and can really deal a massive amount of damage as you progress and especially the late game. In short, let the battle happen and use 1 block if someone dies, use 3 to nuke your opponent by going to the center of your menu in battle and press up and select the icon. 5. Burst Affinity. This is basically a QTE that randomly happens in battle when you land a critical hit, and dodge or miss an attack. I noticed that you were mashing B and not waiting to time the button press. The circle you see has 2 layers, the outer and inner. The outer layer has a white outline that is your main objective to time your press. If you press B while the ring closing in (Your time to hit the button) matches up with the white layer, you did the QTE perfectly and succeeded in Burst Affinity. If you press B in the inner blue layer of the circle, then it's considered decent timing. If you don't hit B or mash it wildly, then you fail the Burst Affinity and won't get any Affinity. It's okay if you don't hit the white layer, just know to expect Burst Affinity when it happens and press B at the right time. In short, press B when you get the QTE and and you can get Affinity which means more Heart-to-Hearts and spending time learning about the characters. 6.Tension. Remember how there's portraits of your party members during battle? That actually shows your Tension in battle. What Tension is is it's basically morale and how much there is determines how well your party does in battle. You always start a battle at neutral Tension and it goes up or down depending on how the fight is going. If you're not doing so well, then your character portraits will be gloomy and sad looking, which is Low Tension. If you're characters are looking more determined in their portraits while fight is going well, then you're at High Tension and if there's a fiery background while your character portraits look determined, the you're at Max Tension which means Max Morale and you can have a better time slaughtering anything in your way. You can restore your Tension when it's low by having a party member automatically encouraging you and you can do the same with pressing B near a party member who isn't really feeling it. This restores Tension and guess what? More Affinity! In short, pay attention to the character portraits and not just HP and press B to get things going and have your party members encourage you to be a killing machine and have more Heart-to-Hearts for down time. (Also, succeeding in Burst Affinity raises Tension too.) 7.Aggro. "What the hell is Aggro?" Well, it's an enemy's feelings of animosity towards a party member and it's signified by a red ring around the character during battle. What this means is that an enemy will be angry at a party member and ONLY focus on killing that one party member. As with the case of playing as Shulk, it is VERY BAD to have a red ring around him as his body is basically made glass. Having the red ring (The Aggro) around Reyn is great because he can take some hits. Aggro can change between party members and some advice as Shulk, spamming Arts will make the enemy target Shulk more then Reyn, which is why you should space your Art usage between Auto-Attacks. In short, red ring=Aggro which is whoever is making the enemy the most angry and keep it off Shulk and have it stay on Reyn. 8.You don't have to grind. The game literally hands you free EXP for exploring and finding skip travel points and doing sidequests along with unique monsters. (You'll meet you the ape a.k.a. know you-know-who you-know-where soon.) You can grind, but the game is designed for leveling up via sidequests and exploration along with a few fights. Also, there's the Skill Trees that each character has and Skills which are passive effects and not manual attacks like Arts. You select a Tree that a character has and they learn the skills automatically on that Tree by gaining SP. You gain SP (Skill points) from fights and AP (Art Points) which are used to level up Arts. Arts at the start of the game can go up to LV. 4 and you have to buy an Art Book from a Shop to be able to get it to a higher LV. For example, if you get Back Slash up to LV.4 and want it to be stronger, buy the Art Book (Which would be an item called "Back Slash" in this case) from certain shops. 9.Controls. Pressing + brings up the menu to save. Pressing X brings up the menu to change equipment, level up Arts, check Skill Trees, and look at the map and skip travel. 10. Enjoy yourself. I know I spouted a crap ton of information, but take your time learning these mechanics and it's okay if you still don't completely understand. I just wanted to help you grasp the battle system a little better and everything will click when you piece it all together and practice. Please enjoy the combat system, the music, the world, the characters, exploring to your heart's content, and the mind-blowing story. Keep being awesome Deebeegeek and I hope you enjoy this game as much I and everyone else watching does.

Oh shit here we goooooooo! Glad to see you're enjoying the game. And you're right, the game has quite a learning curve, so don't feel discouraged if you're not getting the hang of it right away. Friendly tip: You need to stop backing away from the enemies you're fighting. I know it's an instinctive response to put some distance between yourself and the thing kicking your ass (like those Ancient Machines that gave you such trouble), but the way combat works in this game means backing away is actually detrimental. If your character has enemy aggro (the little red circle around them), then backing away won't do a thing, since they'll just keep pressing you. If you don't have aggro, you typically won't take damage (except from AOE attacks), so backing away in this instance means you can't reach the enemy with auto-attack, thus severely weakening your party's damage output. The only reason you should be moving around at all in combat is if you're positioning yourself for an Art's bonus effect (e.g. the extra damage from Shulk's Back Slash when used behind an enemy)

Very excited about this one! Getting your butt kicked while trying to learn the battle system is a natural part of the experience for most players. Given a little time, you get a handle on how it works. A few things to keep note: Positioning is important to make effective use of your Arts. Strafing around your enemy only helps avoid specific AOE attacks, other than that, the enemy can effectively attack you from anywhere if you're aggro'd. Once you get a good handle on Shulk, I'd suggest getting used to playing as the other party members as that may make a huge difference in certain situations. Reyn's job in a fight is to maintain enemy aggro so that he can tank all the damage, which is helped if Shulk heals him whenever possible. It's important to keep an eye on the party's character portraits on the top left. They reflect the person's mood, and you'll want to assist them if they're suffering from status ailments or looking depressed. This is fixed by running close to them and pressing B.

Some tips :3 📜Side content📜 - you can (and should) accept every side mission you encounter, once accepted it’ll pass to your active quests list and you can set as active or just leave it there. - the side content is made to be organic with the gameplay so you don’t need to activate a mission to complete it, just accept it (mission objectives have a red ! over them [monsters, objects or people]) youll see how you end up completing like two or three missions while on the way to completing others just by picking the right object or killing the right enemy . 🏁Quality of life🏁 - you can, at all times, change the camera distance by holding L and moving the right joystick up or down (you can even play on first person) and the cross to change camera height. - if once you reach a new place you do a good amount of its side-quests before doing the main one (aka, as soon as you encounter them) you’ll never need to farm exp in this game 4 example, Doing the three or four side quests that you found on colony 9 would have made the final battle with the robots way easier. - in the attack ui the central bigger circle is your “special” also if you select that central circle and press down on the cross you have the option to flee. - being able to freely move in battle is a thing because some of your arts are more effective if you attack from the sides or the back of the enemy (in the battle ui, the art circle will have a small blue ! when its going to deal critic damage).
