Wilkent joined me on the Butter Boat for a little offshore fishing. These were his first keeper Lingcod and Vermillion! www.fishermanslife.net Edited by northgate.enter...
@@user-wr3vt8uq4s I find it (vermilion) has a subtle sweeter taste (eaten raw) compared to other rockfish. and the texture is as firm as black and yellow, vs the tad softer black or blue rockfish.
Vermillion seem to just give more meat for the size of fish, and they tend to run large. Not a big rockfish eater, rather eat Ling or Cabezon. So pretty indifferent.
Matt I know you almost lost your phone a few vids ago so I really recommend getting a floating waterproof phone pouch especially for when you're out at sea.
Good idea. He did lose his phone in the water in a previous video awhile ago and it has all his kids baby pictures on it that weren't backed up and some amazing person found it and gave it back to him. Saved the day. Karma for Matt finding and giving back some dudes wallet in a previous video as well. :)
These vids with Wilkent are great. It's like you took a big kid fishing. He is hooked now, ain't no getting around it. Just make sure he doesn't go out and buy a whole bunch of gear right away. It's like gambling. If you win a few times, all of a sudden, you start spending more than should. Fishing can definitely become an addiction of sorts. This from an old guy with 40 plus rods and reels.
that lingcod catch was awesome. we caught one in a similar way up in alaska a few years back. it chased a rockfish up out of 100 feet of water and kept gnawing on him right at the side of the boat. deckhand grabbed a net and scooped him right up
Great Video, and Amazing Luck and snatch !! Next time I feel I get snagged, I'll think of of your friend and hope there is a fish at the end . Thanks for taking us along. 😍🎣🌟👍
The extender puts more strain on your hitch and overall subframe of your SUV. Dipping the backwheels in a bit of salt water isnt going to hurt your car. -I live in the rust belt in Canada. Great vid!
@@getchasome6230 We drive through salt water for 6 months out of the year. Our cars always have a white layer of salt on them during winter and they last forever
@@getchasome6230 Nothing lasts forever... if a vehicle rots out in 15+ years id consider that fine. The Hybrid system in his SUV is going to fail long before the thing rots out
That knocking sound means that the engine is not seated against the plate where it levels up. It's just barely touching and knocking every time the engine pistons move. You can fix this by raising the engine just a small amount a quarter inch away from the boat
It was pointed out to me that he may be doing it on purpose. But I have a 21-ft aluminum boat and I usually 15 horsepower kicker to do trolling. I have found that if that kicker isn't firmly seated against the backing plate and it knocks like what you can hear in this video it scares the crap out of the fish and that was my intention to share. However if he's doing it on purpose that's all the better. He's the master of his boat and if it works it works.
at 14:07 when you threw the swimbait back in with the tail messed up still, I yelled at my computer screen lmao. But its nice to see I'm not the only one who does that lmao
Most people do not know what a lingcod is. Besides a great catch it’s one of the best tasting fish the good Lord placed in our seas. Might want to mention , never try to hold the lingcod by mouth :-). I can even smell the ocean….nice day of fishing
I'm so dam happy 😁 you an one you're good friend is with had such a wonderful time day fishing 🎣☺️ getting so many good fish to eat 😋 later on . And continuing it was thee most wonderful 🎉🎂 video I've ever seen yet . Thank you God bless you you're family friends. Some day I'd would love hope pray God I'd get to meet you before I'd die pass away .
I am heading to that same spot this wknd and I thought I’d watch a video of urs to get some motivation and boom!!! Happened to be the same place I’m going. Haha. I’m excited and will be my 2nd time in the ocean on a kayak! 🤙🏼 love seeing so much action in this video btw that camping spot is also my favorite! 👨🏻👏🏼
Nice day fishing beats any day at work! Matt, when you set your rod down on the gunnel to net that ling, I yelled “Don’t do that,” because I lost a $400 rod-n-reel doing that while fishing Black Sea bass. My bait was barely dipping in the water with the swells and a bass jumped out of the water and grabbed my lure as I turned to see it disappear….
A month ago I caught a 28 inch Cabezon weighing 12 lbs. Now every time he says it's a bid cab and it's 18 inches long I get a good chuckle. Still 15+ inch cabs are nice catches.
Brought in a 16# ling just south of there last week. They are out here man. If you want to target ling& cab herring on a halibut rig drifting or slow trolling. Cabs like bora jigs from PBT, Still Swimbaits over jigs tho. See ya on the water someday Matt! Btw, about 100ft from that ramp at low tide there’s an occasional breaking wave, Surfed it in my 13ft aluminum a few months ago. & thanks for the rec. on Kaplan marine! Tight lines!
i get largies like that sometimes also. get a snag from shoreline. as i somehow get it free all a sudden feel the thud. nice ones from so close to shoreline. last time i went rockfishing we were 300 feet deep. but they were all around 10 pounders. sheepshead won the big fish. i got a couple keeper lings vermillion and some others i forgot the name almost look like largemouth but reddish. and some whitefish on the way in. before we could limit on whitefish some sea lions started taking our bait and so then we took off.
