I've never done onions, especially big ones, but I pay a lot of attention to these videos because I'd like to grow and harvest them properly. I only learned recently that onions should be "cured". I not only didn't know that, I would never have known to ask. Thanks for all this information, Gary. Not just for today's topic, but for all the videos on your channel. I always cut the green tops off halfway through the growing and use them or dry them for later use and this allows the onion top to not flop over for a longer time so you get a bigger bulb

Gary, great video, love the short ones to the point! When times suits you, can you show your drying rack for the onions? I have only grown bunching onions but plan to grow a bigger variety next year. Interested to see how you hang them up or what you use to hang them up in. Thanks.

great video! If I were to pickle red onions in red wine vinegar, do I need to cure the red onions first or can i harvest them and immediately process them for water bath canning? thanks in advance for your reply.

I grew elephant garlic last fall and when it was going to be -20 I cut the greens off one to eat. Figured I might as well eat it instead of letting the frost have them all. When spring came it was a month behind the others. Don’t know if it ever caught up.

First time messing with onions. I grew mine from forgotten onions in my pantry so I didn't know the timeframe for that. I started them in Jan/Feb and just Harvest like, three days ago. The seem soft or hollow. I don't know. Gonna go through the drying process and see what I have.

Hi Gary ... OMG I'm so happy you did this video.. I have never grown onions before. In a corner in the backyard there's a plant that looks just like an onion plant . Kinda smells like one to. Its been growing there for about 10 summers . Every year it grows back. Since I don't see it everyday, I've never dug it up. I've thought about digging it ,but I keep forgetting to. The leaves look just like yours. But mine are straight up with big white pom pom balls on the tops of the leaves . The pom poms are starting to die. It looks like there is little black seeds in the pom poms, but the plant isn't multiplying . After all these years of thinking it was a onion plant, obviously it's not 🤣🤣 Can you tell me what you think it could be ? And what to do with it lol

QUESTION I have a boatload of onions and garlic that have cured in my shed but the August heat is pretty intense we don’t have a root cellar and our basement and garage is too hot for long-term storage (they won’t be cool for a few months). Do you have any advice for long-term storage? We have an air-conditioned area that may work but can we pile the onions on top of each other in a wire basket, same for garlic, or do they need space to breathe?
