As a newish player who doesnt pvm much this has been a great help. I can be lazy and stockpile ovls for a majority of the content i'll be doing, and when im interested in doing things like magister i'll make elders
I had suspected based on my own experimentation that the main difference on whether to use the significantly cheaper holy overloads vs elder ovls was when I needed the extra accuracy due to seeing myself splash, but it's good to see more hard evidence. This'll be good to think about once we get Necromancy and I'm back to training combat stats again for the first time in ages.

i use always use salve overload cuz i do big high enrage boss give me like 1min - 30 sec faster but with out it i can't use saradomin brew potion and that is something must do for some bossing use it sometime and not even use food or adrenaline for u hp up, great video by the way.
Am i crazy for this but i love the versitility and usefulness of elder overload salves, i use them for everything right down to abyssal demons up to kerapac. i dont skimp on things that cost me nothing when i grind over 2k of each herb it's not really a problem anymore lol but i do see how i 100% dont need them for abyssal demons kekw
I really enjoy videos like this. I’m mainly a WoW / Diablo player but have played RuneScape on and off since middle school (I’m 32). Mostly off since eoc. Lately I’ve been giving RuneScape more of a shot because I can afk stuff while I program on my computer. Something you can’t do with WoW or Diablo. But when I can focus I’ve been doing pvm. So I really like this insight. I’d like to see these tests again with jellyfish rather than sharks. It doesn’t use adrenaline which removes another variable.
Thank you! Ive been in a similar boat where most of my progress has to be AFK, so I'm glad to hear this helps. For these tests I made sure not to eat during any kills. Wherever food is missing in my inv, I ate between kills to not affect adrenaline.
If the question is purely from the lens of faster kill times than I’d agree mostly with what you said but making ovl to elder you gain 2 extra doses. As an Ironman you can appreciate that
Totally true, but in some cases I have trouble reconciling this. For example I'm going to mage a boss or Slayer task. I make holy overloads to get an extra 2 doses of ovl and prayer renewal, but for each dose I'm also wasting a dose of attack, str, range, that im not making use of, and even Def pot if I don't care or just use Excalibur lol. That being said I use holy ovls and holy aggroverloads for especially Melee because you do get +2 of many doses that way and waste relatively few.
Extrapolate that to Elder ovl salves and I feel like I'm wasting a ton of pots that are irritating to make in most cases as an Iron lol. But one reason to do this anyway eventually, I will say is whenever I start to care about leveling Herblore faster because this is just recycling pots for more exp.
if you want an easy way of getting extra doses, just make searing overloads, for the cost of a super-antifire(4) which is super easy to get a lot of, you get 2 extra doses per overload :)
When taking into account that you get 2 extra doses for upgrading to supremes plus the bonus from using the 120 cape to batch make there is no excuse to not use elders regardless if its worth it or not.
I want to agree, and I know a lot of players do, but I'd be much more inclined if there were just Holy Elder Ovl and Holy Elder Aggroverload options, instead of just the salve. Whether I'm on an Iron or not, I don't want to make/take extra time to mix two types of antifire and an antipoison that I won't need 95% of the time. Making Supremes gives you 2 extra Ovl doses, but so does making Holy Ovl and Holy Aggrovl. And that way I also get an extra 2 doses of prayer renewal and/or aggro pot. I don't gain any extra doses by making Supremes/Elders and then having to use up my prayer renewal & aggro pots faster. For me, the renewal & aggros are really important but I realize this doesn't apply to everyone.
Why are you talking about elder ovl salves? Salves are annoying for sure, and honestly I rarely use them. But not using elder at all at any content past gwd2 is kinda throwing for no reason
IMO - EO are used more for people who are learning bosses or who just basically suck at pvm over high lever players but maybe that's just my opinion. They are well worth it to me.
I would wager to say that your tests don't actually suggest that elder ovlds are better. Sure 5% DPS is pretty huge, but if that only equates to 3 seconds, how is that time being used effectively? Over the course of an hour w/ 1 min kill times that nets you 3 kills, before respawn timers and banking which probably eats at least one of those kills. 62>60 at the cost of double ovld supplies. Great vid! I hate having to take the super sweaty pvm gigachads at their word. Seeing actual test data so the rest of us can make informed decisions is great, keep it up!
Thank you! That's why I want to make vids like this. I agree that I don't care to spend the extra supplies to shave a few sec per kill. But other players are just starting a long grind to 120 Slayer, or boss logs, or Leng cores, etc. Over the course of 1000s of kills then is it worth it? Everyone can decide for themselves, I just show the data.
Those three extra kills make a huge difference in the long run of camping a boss, hell even if it manages to get you one extra kill per hr at a high level boss is insane profit in the long term. If you're an ironman its definitely a lot harder and less worthwhile to make elders but for mains the actual cost per dose of elders is a couple of k higher than making base overloads and you get quite a bit out of it as a result.
As 10 kills give a rough estimated on statistics, they in some cases lack some accuracy other than that, for anyone wanting to go for ovls, keep in mind, its always better to make a combination ovl instead of regular ovl as that will essentially double your ovls.
Kind of a silly video, the cost is negligible for almost every boss making elders always the best choice even if its barely any increase in kill speed. Only way to make an argument for regular overloads vs elders on bosses is very niche setups that want to take more damage to proc blood reaver or dharoks fury for increased damage. But, then almost always just a slightly worse piece of armor or the black crystal is the way to go. Maybe before the herb update you could make an argument that the time investment for the extra supplies to make isn't worth it for ironmen but now you can get over 300 herbs a run and seeds are easy to get. All of this to say, always elders if you have them unlocked. I wouldn't worry about unlocking them tho unless you plan on doing high enrage or very difficult boss encounters (solo vorago etc) as regular overloads will be enough. Some argue overloads are better for slayer. Yet again, not true but the margins are closer so for iron I could at least understand the argument.
It is silly in the context of recent herb updates. I admittedly am l more against grinding potions than most players, and the extra effort of making overloads to supremes into elders is just bleh for me. Part of the reason for making this vid was for me to see how much time I'd save per boss kill (or per Slayer task) using each type of Ovl, and if that's worth the time it takes to make Elders. It's looking like the answer is probably yes, lol, some Iron considerations aside.
@@jasper_72 Your video is good timing. I tend to stick to elder overloads and started to question that decision as I have been staring at herblore on my iron for +1 month now. Have 1k elder overloads ingredients, 1k poison+++ and other stuff, etc... All from scratch. Making all these potions and keeping track of each mix and actually do the potions is a right pain in the ass.
