Entombed Wolverine Blues is a masterpiece and blueprint for death n roll. Cheers mate

Good stuff. 'Subhuman Race' and 'Chaos A.D.' are both excellent albums to me. Seems that a lot of DM bands went in a more death 'n' roll direction in the mid-late 90s. I like 'Diatribes' too. 'Spheres' rules! :) 'Swansong' is really good too... there are so many catchy hard-rocking riffs on that album.

Great final part to your bands changing in the 90's series James! Gorefest and Napalm Death I haven't listened to, Dismember I do wanna check out. Especially that album, Massive killing capacity. I've heard a couple of tracks from Wolverine blues, need to check out the full album. From what I remember it was pretty cool. I need to check out more from Pestilence, I haven't heard Spheres. Swansong and the debut are the only Carcass albums I have left to listen to. So, I haven't really heard any of these, but I will. And im sure I would enjoy almost all of them, I do like the Death n roll style and I love the latest Pestilence album. Nice one, cheers James 😊🤘🏻🤘🏻

I'm fairly new to Gorefest myself Josh. Wolverine Blues is a beast from start to finish. I think the whole Death and Roll style is a good gateway style for people who want to get into Death Metal rather than throwing themselves in at the deep end with something like Cryptopsy's None So Vile 😂😂 Cheers mate as per usual 👍
@JoshKeech

@mrboulder9714 Ahh ok, that's fair enough man. I have heard a couple of tracks by them but not a lot, plus I always get them confused with Gorguts!! Yeah I've been meaning to check out Wolverine blues in full for some time, I have heard the first 2 Entombed albums and they're great! Yeah definitely, it's the perfect starting point for anyone looking to get into Death Metal. It still has the vocals but the songs and riffs are simpler and more palettable. Haha, yeah Cryptopsy probably isn't the place to start, no! 😂😂 You're welcome mate as always 🤘🏻🤘🏻😊

As a musician I’ve always had a lot of admiration for bands that want to experiment with their sound… regardless really of whether it works or not! You’ve got to do what makes you happy creatively haven’t yer! Liam nailed it when he described that ‘Gorefest’ album as sounding like the Death Metal equivalent of ‘Thin Lizzy’!🤘🏻

Another great video, really cool series! Enjoyed a lot, thank you! Saw Pestilence live back then, they were just awesome. Killer band. Also like Swansong a lot, really a great album. Perhaps missing here is Odium by MORGOTH from 1993 where they really changed their style (not as good as the classic stuff unfortunatly). Cheers from Switzerland

World Demise from Obituary deserves to be on that list too, they definitely tried to mix it up on that album. I saw them play London when they toured on that album, with support from Eyehategod and Pitch Shifter (back when it was a two word band name).

Nice dollop of death there, Mr B! I say, those CD boxes are a drop of good. I have the Benediction box - can highly recommend that one, it bangs like a shithouse door - & the Behemoth one. Gawd, they were a bit ropey early on. They got better, mind.

Great stuff hitting 2000 subs❤James, well deserved mate!! Love rhat Napalm Death era, deapite people moaning about experimentation. Wolverine Blues is a decent record too, killer stuff. Spheres get's a lot of shit, but I love when bands take a chance andcexperiment a bit. However, carcass took a step too far with Swansong. I don't really bother with Heartwork either, gimme Symphonies any day. Great video James, congrats again!!

Gorefest, especially "False" is still one of my all time faves. Their "comeback" albums La Muerte and Rise To Ruin are also really good. Haven't listen that much of Napalm Death since Utopia Banished, but I've listened all of their albums nonetheless. Wolverine Blues is just a banger. Though my fave is Clandestine and this was a bit of a shocker when it came out, but yeah, really great album. To me Pestilence haven't given really that much since Testimony Of The Ancients Swansong was also another "what the....." album, but it kinda grew on me over the time. Necrotisicm... is "THE" Carcass album for me.

I feel that Carcass' "Swan Song" has aged extremely well, at the time it wasn't appreciated for what it was, but from a modern ear it's not too shoddy at all. I do admit to hating it on release (hell, I wasn't too keen on the change of direction on Heartwork as I got into Carcass with the 1st 2 albums) but it's really grown on me over the years,

I knew Entombed and Carcass would get a mention. Interesting thing is I was watching Much Music back in 1991 and Entombed were on and they said "Thrash Metal is dead." As a thrash fan at the time I instantly thought "Wait, when did this happen?". This was the first I heard of it. They were right though. I love Entombed and Carcass. Interesting thing about Napalm Death is that Barney would get fed up with this direction and jump ship and do one album with Extreme Noize Terror, only to later return when they promised to go back to a more grindcore direction with Enemy of the Music Business. The bands I would add are Darkthrone, who famously abandoned the death metal style of their first album to the start of Black Metal on their second album. Morgoth completely abandoned Death Metal for their album Feel Sorry for the Fanatic, citing being exposed to new music and bands such as Ministry. Therion made the slow transition from Death Metal to pioneers of Symphonic Metal. I got into Therion with their symphonic stuff and went back and got their Death Metal albums.
@mrboulder9714
@mrboulder9714 7 месяцев назад
I didn't.know that about Barney being unhappy about the change in direction. Entombed and Carcass have to be here, 2 bands that changed and got it right. Thank you for watching and commenting on the video. Cheers

Im an old fart so was around in the golden age of DM and when bands started to change to blend in with the current trend. -some worked, some didnt ! Love that Dismember album - never done a bad one. Napalm are my favourite band of all time, so love all of their stuff. Entombed I thought was a massive let down after the AMAZING Clandestine, but have grown to like it since. Pestilence I enjoyed for its weirdness, but again a let down after Testimony.
