When being shunned, sometimes you need a cleansing breath!

I feel you! I am in-active and I was shunned by someone I have known for forty years. Initially I was offended, but if that is the price I must pay for freedom, so be it. I am not going back.

I'm newly out, a 4th generation jw. I faded because I have a grand baby in. But I could never comprehend shunning anyone. I was devastated when my son and his wife left, but because I could never shun them, they helped my husband and I wake up. He was the coordinator for many years, and in since he was a boy. I get upset when I hear this, because you don't deserve this treatment, but I honestly think those who accept this policy of shunning need to take some responsibility. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I love your videos.

Stay strong Eric. They all are a bunch of haters. I told my parents " You are not shunning me, I am shunning you all. Talk to me when you all leave the cult and by the way if one of you die, don't call me to tell me, if you don't want to see me in life why would I care to know when you die"

I live in a small town in PR, so I'm shunned almost every week. Right now I really don't care! I don't look at them so I say I'm shunning them!!! Hahahaha! But in the hospital while my sister was having surgery I bumped into a brother that I love dearly, first I said good morning he responded in a very low tone, later we saw each other in the surgery waiting room, and the only empty seat was beside me, that gave me the opportunity to talk to him, tell him everything I know and showed him my disassociation letter, he was in tears I was in tears too! I told him about the children sexual abuse, obviously he didn't know anything! Now he does! I told him about the United Nation and Watch Tower ,etc etc! Now he knows, so I'm crossing my fingers!

So happy about that you are celebrating 4 years of freedom. It is 2 for us. We have reversed shunned JW's. We don't speak to them unless they speak to us. It has helped me a lot! Hope you can undo their influence over you, we are still working on it also. We are rooting for you and everyone else that has had the good sense to get out. God and Jesus are so different from the way Watchtower paints them.

Thank you, I needed this. My Dad expressed last night he might go back to meetings after being out over 50yrs. His cousins are taking advantage of his emotions with his brother approaching death. I tried to express facts about JWs and why I couldn't ever go back, but didn't express myself well. After my Uncle died I'll give him written info. I was angry and sad last night, now I feel drained. I will never go back, and that's an understatement. I'm going to allow myself a little anger and resentment toward my stupid JW relatives this morning and then "brush the dirt off my feet" and continue my happy life. Thank you, again!

I've been out 27 years too...in those days there wasn't the net and all its info and support. I wasn't brought up in the corporation but still hard to get it out my head. Social media really makes a difference... Seems to me you're reacting healthily. ;)

I'm shunned about 5 times a day. I know how it feels.

It use to frustrate me to no end in the beginning. It's been 11 yrs now. My family & friends have become strangers to me, of their own accord! I use to hold my head down & run away , but now I give a big hug & am cordial, as I would be to any stranger! I did nothing wrong but attend a nondenominational church, so I refuse to let them make me feel bad! Plus I really don't want a relationship with them until they get in a healthier place, so I remind them to research every time I run into them!! I want them to see how happy & grateful I am that I chose to do the research & I let them know that ( in a kind way) then I move on.. I'm sure by now, when they see me, they are the ones feeling bad! I've been out 20 yrs now.. It gets easier !

Dear Brother in Christ, Thank you for all your continued efforts to reach the hearts of others as it seems that you have indeed been giving the spirit of the One True Lord and Almighty King (Jesus Christ) and turned around not only your own view of these people but, now you been given a chance to help change the perspectives of others who still wonder why there is so much evil and hate in them if they truly are God's Chosen people who LOVE ALL!!! Again thank you for reiterating what my husband and I have both been saying about them and how they only do what makes them look good in other's eyes. The sad truth is that I believe that many of would not be a bad choice to do God's work in knowing all that they do for their own religion and its status. I was shunned multiple times at my christian church without my pastor's knowing by older saints until they realized that I wasn't budging and didn't care. Then they stopped. One girl even ran behind me trying to give me candy when I walked off. Ignoring the silent treatment works wonders.

I was never a jw myself but my family is and because I have a different belief I am being shunned. So I feel your pain and I think all those who have been shunned should get together and party! It's like dodging a bullet, just be grateful you're not one of them.

To be honest I live in towns that are very close together, I never see anyone , I would be hard pressed to bump into a witness. Maybe they’ve all left !

I totally feel your anger. I can through days weeks and sometimes if I'm lucky a month or so without paying any mind to my getting out of the org and feeling free and living my life, then BOOM! all of sudden it could be anything that triggers my rage, sadness, frustration etc..and then that can go on for days at a time, sick off work, don't really want to engage with anyone and all of my mental energy goes into getting past those thoughts. All of this BS after 11 years out...WTF... but its real, i am a woman who has struggled with this for longer than 11 years, doing what i felt was right for my sons and myself and i know it was right. It just pisses me off that I carry this with me...

I can attest to the SHUNNING of JW's. A family member that I have was first of all, disfellowshipped for a made up offence and NO ONE has spoken to her since 1978 and that INCLUDES ,,,both FRIENDS AND FAMILY. What kind of caring is that? 38 years... too bad that they have NO COMPASSION,,, and NO MERCY like Jesus had in John 8:1-11 with the woman taken in adultery......Oh,, oooops,,, I forgot, they left that one out of their BIBLE.... Keep them coming, you are doing a great work. Not only a great work, but a much NEEDED work, and you WILL save some..

Looks like I'm being shunned by my callers; they've not been in touch since eary July. I've been out 16 years now; 'faded' not disfellowshipped, but during that time I was still shunned by some. Thanks again Eric. I had a funny incident happen last week when I went to the grocery store. I faded out over 3 years so some JW's will speak to me but most will not. As I was getting out of my car I noticed an elder getting out of his car also. I had just a few items to grab so I was hoofing it to get in and get out. I headed for the produce section to get a bag of potatoes. I looked up and there he was getting potatoes also. Just as I started to grab a bag, my list flew out of my hand and sailed over to him just like a paper airplane and landed at his feet. Darn I thought. I calmly walked over and picked up my list. He never looked at me or said a word and neither did I say anything. I try to avoid JW's as much as possible.

Venting is healthy, as long as it's kept in check. I've been unofficially out for almost 3 years and I still get upset when I see those stupid Witness carts. I live in NYC and they're everywhere!!! You were burned bad, so you have a right to be angry. Keep up the good work. Congrats on being out 4 years.

That shunning sucks I can also attest to; I haven't talked to my parents for over two years. I live in a part of Denver where I am not known by many Witnesses, but I thought I may have accidentally run into my JW aunt at a Walmart Supermarket (this woman gave me that nastiest look from about a 100 feet away.) Until now I haven't run into any other Witnesses, but I do drive for UBER and Lyft and occasionally pass through my old stomping grounds in Arvada, CO and it brings back a lot of memories.

I was a JW from 1987 to 2012. During those years i explored the evangelical, Pentecostal and catholic religions in secret. On 2013 i decided to leave. Never been shunned, just realized that Jehovah and Jesus are too great to be encased in a religion concept. I don't have that anger/bitterness that most people express towards them after they leave (maybe because i didn't went through a shunning process), but i do feel dissapointed. There are many great people in there that really want to do gods will, and i'm sure that Jehovah will guide them to the light.

On saying that try not to worry they are ignorant and sorry to say arse holes.......oh I have done nearly 40 years when you have lost family it doesn't get any easier you just have to live with it even though it breaks my heart I need support .....still ...

Maybe for your anniversary you could do a live stream with chat. We could all have some drinks together and celebrate our freedom!

You have a right to your feelings. No one should tell you to simply forgive or get over it since being able to do that takes time to even digest the thought. If the JW's truly wanted peace with you they would apologize for their active shunning, and so time wouldn't be needed to heal. But JW's are taught to be selfish in their beliefs even if it means hurting those they once said they cared about or loved deeply. Love doesn't seek its own intrest, but they do the opposite. Their interest is you must be a JW to have their love. Such a sad way of living with love holding many restrictions to doctrines of men. The golden rule is forgotten along with the Son whom gave it. Hang in there man. You have many people here hugging you from afar. Take care, and much love. :)

I celebrated my first year May 18, 2017! At first it hurt me a lot! I saw a sister in a Walmart store and loved her dearly, so I went to her and hug and kiss her! She stayed like a zombie, arms down and looking to the front with her eyes like "frozen fish". I left the store and cried a lot! Well now I shun them, if they look at me, I maintain my eyes looking at them to the point that they need to look to other place! I showed angry 😡 in my face, Actually I did it Yesterday to a ministerial servant, who was talking to one of my neighbors! He looked at me, that was his mistake! He faced my angry look and couldn't sustain the eyes at me!

My Pop was once an elder and one of the Best of the Best just like you. One of my final days of my Pop being an elder, he was sick of it and gotten into it with one of the other veteran elders who was a know it all kind of guy and to make a long story short my Pop got into the elders face in the room where they were having some kind of meeting committee for whatever reason and my Pop just lashed at that son of a bitch elder (forgive my harshness) and was about to kick his ass and my Dad said "F**K it" and walked away forever. There was a lot of hell to pay of course with the elders saying my Pop couldn't just quit like that and walk away and this and that etc etc. but my Pop did in in fact just leave cold turkey and when one of the veteran elders tracked down my Pop and confronted my Pop, well let's just say my Dad just about kicked his ass and end of story. Sad Story but my Dad had enough. My Pop got sick of the bullshit and didn't take shit and he realized why I had left as well. My Pop just had enough and now he is happier, we hang out and work on the yard together and have some cold beers, and he even plays in a cover band for fun and things are happier now yet we still believe in a higher lord and live an honest life and do what's right. Thank You and sorry for the long comment. Just had to vent.

Everyone has their own situation and family issues with the witnesses. Some families shun some dont or there is casual shunning depending on who's looking. I think that shunning only works when you give them power over you. It always sucks but it sucks less when you take the wind out of their sails. I dont like people that much anyway. Im a bit of a loaner. So if I have to be shunned by my brother or his wife, good, I dont like them anyway. 2 people I never have to speak to again and they suffer for it not me. Im a good person and im ok by myself. Set boundaries and rules for yourself. If people (family or not) can not follow your rules and adhere to your boundaries, then you are better off without them and dont be afraid to tell them that. This is not the time to be passive-agressive.

Brother I understand been there done that. What I do when I get shunned I just greet them anyway, like good morning to you to, (in a very sarcastic way them I said) you see its not difficult to treat you like a human being, and then I keep walking. Believe they hated and instead of me been mad I piss them off.

I'm still trying to figure out how their shunning and the whole disfellowshipping thing would make anyone want to join this ridiculous cult, among many other reasons of course. the way they treat anyone who leaves is in no way painting a good image of what they are about. The ego of this cult is huge and is a blinder to the real truth. And if they in fact follow Jesus as they claim, they would know he was nothing about the ego they are so blinded by.

Thanks for your video. Know exactly how you feel, i let it get to me so many times and opened my mouth to jw in street or at the mall. Past four years since i moved i get shunned more, on average 3-5 times a week but of late the anger has subsided and it bugs me a lot less. i love it when i'm with someone and i let them know that i'm being shunned by a jw nearby, it's like throwing it back at them and not letting them get away with it.

Great video. Yes, shunning is silly, childish, inhumane and unChristian, and I'm sad to hear you had to go through all that garbage. But I bet you've got a better, kinder, more honest, more supportive bunch of friends now than you had four years ago. Never been a JW myself, but it's nice to see the strong community spirit amongst ex-JWs.

When I first started experiencing the shunning, it was very interesting to me how the Jdubs would react to me when out in public. I never cared about any of it from them as I never had any real friends in the org. I didn't miss any of them. A funny experience running into a brother at the grocery store. He saw me coming towards him and he nearly knocked over a display trying to get out of my eyesight. I can still remember the look on his face, it was like, "Oh Shit". I lived in a small community and would run into them all the time, usually when I was with a "worldly" friend (unmistakable by appearance and I looked the part too) or with my roommate's sister (no worries, I was outed as gay). No one ever said a word or looked me in the eye. But I could see the unmistakable look of disgust on their faces. I will always remember one sister we were friends with, running into her at Costco. I was with a "friend". But she looked at me and smiled warmly and asked how I was doing. It meant a lot to me. It was the only time that ever happened.

I too have had my share of shunning from the JW, I wasn't even a member but because a friend of 30 years got the brainwashing she felt I needed it too, mind you this gal in our early days was way less moral than I ever could be, she screwed nearly everything in sight as well as shoplifted ect.... but because she couldn't convert me I was no longer good enough to hang with, I greived over the freindship for quite some time but now realize I'm better off without her, I don't know if she is still with this stupid organization but either way I bet she is too embarrassed to approach me

Remember Luke 18:11-14, the pharisee prayed not to be like the tax collector. The tax collector prayed for God to have mercy on him. Jesus said "everyone who exalts himself will be humbled." By shunning, witnesses exalt themselves above others. They are exactly like the pharisees.
