People these days see too much of the good side of sports and life in general. There's always good with bad. Right with wrong. Yin with Yang. Everyone can go out sad. The biggest underdog fight I can remember is Foreman vs. Moorer. Hands down. I was 8 years old. I even remember my pastor saying, "George is gonna need a miracle." And the last round... BOOM BABY. It was a moment in time.
He didn't need a miracle, because Foreman knew the Lord was with him the whole journey there. That comeback (and the fact that he's from Texas) is what makes him my favorite boxer of all time. Big George was experienced enough to know not to scare Moorer from trading shots in exchanges during the opening rounds. Moorer not realizing the danger he was in until it was too late was all from Foreman's brilliant strategy. That picture perfect 1-2 is one of the most beautiful knockouts to happen in the ring
Biggest underdog pick for me was Hopkins vs Pavlik. It felt like Hopkins and I were the only people who thought he would win, and everyone else was ready to write a eulogy. Felt amazing to see Bhop once again defy father time.
What happened with Joe Louis vs. Rocky Marciano still makes me teary eyed to this day. Louis deserved a hero's reward for all those years as the champ and for sticking up for black soldiers in WW2, and for the US using him as a prop all throughout the war for being the world champion. Rocky didn't wanna put a hurt on Joe, and even in interviews he never seemed proud of that victory. I hope Joe's resting in peace, you deserved a lot better than you got.
It was heartbreaking what happened to Joe Louis. Rocky crying in the locker room afterwards made me tear up. Both of them are "a man among men". I feel like there are very few who can live up to the standard they represent.
To answer your question at 10:48, the most recent fight I can think of was Alexa Grasso vs Valentina Shevchenko. I was super hyped to see Grasso win and I really hope she’s able to keep her title for a long time
Fonfara vs Chavez Jr… LOL Funny ass fight. I wasn’t surprised though. Chavez acted crazy asf in the posfight interview like he usually does. He said some funny shit. He quit, he knew he was about to get knocked out 😂😂
The fight that I will always remember is George Kambosos Jr. vs Teofimo Lopez, from when the bout was mandated by the IBF I said that Kambosos was gonna win, and he did it.
To me the sadest one is definetly Ali......knowing how great he was in his prime and then seeing him taking a beating because he was a shell of himself that was really heartbreaking to watch for me
but it was his own doing too no? what if he didn't spend all his prior earnings? what if he retired when he slowed down instead of asking his sparring partners to hit him constantly to get more punch resistance. what if he realized he's not himself and retired before.
This is the same for most boxers tho, it’s the circle of life for ‘champs’. The young champ beats the old champ, then becomes the old champ beaten by the young champ.
My underdog story: Bellator 106: "King Mo" Muhammed Lawal vs Emanuel Newton - I was rooting for Newton because I have weird favourite fighters. The fight ending spinning back fist KO was picture perfect and had me jumping out of my seat. My favourite memory from watching a live broadcasted event.
Great video! Best boxing content on RU-vid. Sounds like a cheap answer, but the the fans of boxing win this weekend. So nice to see two boxers putting it on the line when it counts. When so many aren’t nowadays.
Mcgregor vs Poirier 2 is the one I pick everyone thought mcgregor was going to knockout poirier easily but poirier showed how much he’s evolved as a fighter and it also showed how much the sport evolved leaving conor behind.
We the fans are the winners. Let's hope this is the start of many fights we need to see like Spence Vs. Crawford and Fury Vs. Usyk. But I think Ryan gets his first L.
I have more sympathy for the journeymen fighters who fight for small money, sometimes on short notice, sometimes in mismatches. And no one seems to care when they get screwed on a seriously bad decision. The big name fighters who are financially comfortable but can't bring themselves to stay retired can only blame themselves. The bad boy, big mouth, & cheating fighters shouldn't be shocked when people want to see them beaten, bruised, & bleeding. Situations where fighters past their prime have a real financial need to keep fighting are truly sad.
I hear you man morales is definitely my favourite it was a privilege to follow his whole career.great guy inside and outside the ring never showed any arrogance a true warrior.he was in so many great fights always coming forward.
Morales made a mistake coming to fight the best at 140 In such rush. He could’ve have taken some easy fights before that. He had potential to win against Maidana and García IMO by the minimum.
I was rooting for Holly Holm when she fought Rousey. Ronda’s coach was talking so much about how good Ronda’s boxing is, but I guess he forgot who Holly Holm is.
Boxrec has rated Holm as the P4P greatest female boxer ever. How the hell did Ronda's team not know who they going up against??? Ronda had never been a striker. Her punches were a distraction to help her get inside for the takedown. But she tried to box Holly. Madness.
I started watching boxing in the early 90s and from there 2 fights come in mind that made me sad.. it was Chavez vs tzsyu and when Jones got ko by tarver . Those hurt man
hey man good videos. your attention to detail is flawless coming from a true die hard fan of the sport. you should make a video about the promoters and mangers and networks
Sad as it is, it’s the circle of life for the great ‘champs’ to loose to the next great champ. The young champ beats the old champ, then becomes the old champ beaten by the young champ. Eg, Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Chavez, DelaHoya, Mayweather etc…
Rodriguez vs Cuadras This was last year so it’s recent. Bam Rodriguez was a last minute replacement, jumped 2 weight classes and had never fought beyond 8 rounds before. Won by unanimous decision and became a new star overnight.
Every one of these are so sad! But not near as sad as those boxers who left the ring on stretchers and never woke up again. To me that’s the saddest part of boxing 🥊. But it’s still the greatest one on one sport as long as the corrupt management stays away.
10:43 The good old Ruiz-AJ 1 I saw Andy Ruiz fighting on Top Rank undercards and I thought it was Butterbean on steroids 🤣 After Miller was replaced, I didn't know Ruiz moved to PBC and jumped to Matchroom to fight AJ I had a feeling Ruiz can upset him but not in that fashion Good to see these prospects become champions
Amazing video like always! It's always an amazing video when you upload and I click asap every time I see you upload. I was thinking could you do a video just like this one but its when boxers go out great or happy or on top?
UFC 86: Rampage vs. Griffin That's the fight I remember vividly wherein Rampage was the overall odds favorite to win, with MMANews saying that he will run through Forrest to get that Rashad Evans fight. But BAM! Forrest Griffin School of leg kicks happen.
Chavez v Dela Hoya always gets me cos at 34, you could see that Chavez was a shadow of his former self, he’d been on a clear steady decline since the age of 30. On top of that, his life outside the ring was clearly effecting him personally and it just felt wrong to watch Chavez loose against a young prime Oscar when he was over the hill, to heavy, riddled with drug addiction and just no where near to what he was aged 22-28.
One underdog I was rooting for that ended up winning in MMA was Roxanne Modafferi when beat Macy Barber. Old beloved fighter that was put in there to lose to promote this young star but Roxanne won dominating Macy Barber
The boxer I rooted that he was the underdog and won was Orlando Salido vs JuanMa Lopez, I can still remember the joy I felt when Salido dropped Juanma in the 10TH round and the ref stopping the fight ❤ I can still remember it like it was yesterday, time flies by so fast
Yeah his knee was gone for a while n I know a thing about knee injuries fr but whatever Sergio el marvioso Martinez knee was shot even wen he fought in the rain in Argentina
How Bernard Hopkins ended his career still stings 2 this day 4 me. Though 2 answer your question the 1st fight between Nate Diaz & Conor McGregor will always be one of the happiest moments I've had as an MMA fan rooting for an underdog, as I was absolutely certain Nate was gonna win that fight the moment he was booked as the replacement for Rafael Dos Anjos backing out due to a foot injury, and was ecstatic when he won.
Penalosa vs Gonzalez. I thought Penalosa would loose until that body shot came in. I was in highschool at that time in my grandmas house. Good old days
To answer the mid video question. Nunez Vs Peña the 1st fight. Idk what it was about Peña but I always thought she would be the one to beat Nunez so when the moment happened I was beyond overjoyed.
Michael Bisping vs. Luke Rockhold, after Bisping took the fight on short notice. Rockhold was tearing up Middleweight, and held the title. Bisping was taking shots, but clipped Rockhold on the point of his jaw, rocking him. Bisping backed him up to the cage, and just wailed on Rockhold, who was sitting at this point, before the ref called it. I'll never forget that fight. I was with my GF in a bar watching the PPV, and i got to see Bisping finally get a title.
I recall that one well. Bisping actually had a plan. If you rewatch it look for the multiple shots he's as he trying to catch Rockhold either coming in his chin way up or retreating with almost no guard and chin still high. Bisping finally does it, but in a weird way. The finishing sequence is a hard right to the chest as Rockhold is bladed to Bisping and dancing back to range. Its that shot gives Bisping the range to know he's got Rockhold's head right there and no gaurd, like always. The right to Rockhold's chest is HARD, though. It's not some little shot. He nailed him with it. And then, before Luke can really feel that, Bisping's left comes down like the hand of God and cleanly cracks Rockhold's chin. The sequence was fast, chained up like Bisping'd rehearsed it a million times. I'm sure the right was to catch Rockhold's chin if he ducked and the left was in case he didn't or get his chin with a second shot. In the end it worked perfectly with the right to the sternum, well inside range, and the fast left, over Luke's shoulder and clean to the chin. I cheered when that happened.
No doubt it was Grasso vs Shevchenko. I was screaming and jumping my ass off when Grasso took Shev’s back and started squeezing with everything she had.
Jiri vs glover, jiri did the what ppl thought was impossible, his comeback against Jamal gone be some shit stay tuned although my boy Jamal ain’t not push over by any means I think Jiri got this hope this ages well lol
Tell me I’m wrong but the best fight trilogy ever !! Gatti vs ward. Just amazing those guys fought for peanuts and did it like no other two could . It’s a shame what happened to gatti ! We all know she killed his ass
Underdog fights: Boxing - I have to say that Foreman vs Moorer is the most improbable yet ultimately unsurprising underdog story. Like the Tortoise and the Hare. MMA - I think that when Nate Diaz submitted prime Conor, that was just special. That and Holly Holm vs Ronda Rousey, although having already seen Holly straight-on box I knew Ronda was in for a tough fight if she hadn't better developed her boxing. Spoiler alert: she never did.
Rip Tommy Morrison I know he didn’t make the list but hiv diagnoses was the worst thing that could happen to the one time wbo champion from getting his payday with Tyson
In my opinion Ali went 55-3-1 the 2 fights do not count at all. He was far far past his prime. He was mentally impaired and was suffering from brain damage and Parkinson’s.
Morales deserved that win against maidana. His eye was closed after the second round and morales boxed like nothing was wrong. Any other boxer woulda quit morales had the time of his life.
MMA Matt Serra vs George Saint Pierre 1 (First time ever winning more than a thousand dollars that night) Boxing Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua 1( was watching with my co workers and friends that night)
Poirier v McGregor 2. Poirier had no chance leading up to this one. He'd lost once already and didn't sound like he had better answers. The fight played out just like I thought initially. I had McGregor getting the best of him until one shot landed, a big right, that straightened and stanky legged McGregor for just a second as they both turned. No one seemed to notice it except Poirier. He suddenly found his fists landing, tagging McGregor with a clean left. That was it and you could see it coming. Poirier laid into him with lefts and right to the head that McGregor was weaving and ducking as best he could. He kept getting tagged, though. Not enough to put him away, not until the one square on the chin. A short hard whip of a right hand up into the chin and mouth and that did it. Best underdog moment I can recall in a long time.
I was bored on a Saturday night and I tune into whatever boxing right is going on right. Anthony Joshua fighting some Hispanic I’ve never heard of but me being the Hispanic let’s go for him. All of a sudden Andy Ruiz is knocking out the champion of the world and we going crazy 😂
Honorable Mentions (for Part 2): *Manny Pacquiao vs Yordenis Ugas, August 20, 2021 *Roy Jones Jr. *Felix Tito Trinidad *Roberto Duran *Riddick Bowe after being low blowed twice by Golota *Sugar Ray Leonard *Jake LaMotta *Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. *Arturo Gatti *Micky Ward *Ricky Hatton after being KOed by Pacquiao *Evander Holyfield *Tommy Morrison *Antonio Margarito a.k.a Miguel Cotto's sweet revenge *Razor Ruddock *Prince Naseem Hamed after a humiliating loss to Barrera *Meldrick Taylor after a controversial KO loss to Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
Underdog fight hmm, well I wouldn’t say biggest underdog but the one I remember the most was Gabe Flores vs Alberto “El Venado” Lopez. Completely shocking at the time how easy Lopez completely dismantled and destroyed Flores mentally and physically, I mean it wasn’t even close a complete sweep, and now he’s the champ at 126. Lopez was +500 and Flores was -900
Bernard "i never lose to a whyt boy" Hopkins. Last 2 defeats by white dudes, literally knocked out the ring. Yes. He was 1,000yrs old. But still, kinda funny given his quote.
Matt serra vs gsp all my friends were ragging serra cause he was short and I had met him and as a young kid I was rooting for him giving him props for doing some stuff like gsp. When serra clipped gsp I remember just standing up and everyone screaming at the TV lol serra tko George st Pierre and I couldn't say one word.
The underdog i believe was sergio Martinez vs paul Williams 2 n el marviosa sergio martinez gave a brutal ko in their 2nd fight but i might be mistaken if he was the udog in that fight but for sure it was chocolotito vs i don't wanna mess his name up it begins with an R he was from southeast Asia n whipped chocolotito ass twice n many others i cant remember the name n of course adrian broner vs el chino marcos maidana
