The sponsor cares about the draw of the driver. Quitting isn't bringing people in, and it's poor sportsmanship. Even in the context of a video game, if an eSports athlete did the same, the sponsor would drop them too. The sponsor needs money. Money is not gained through quitting.
That sponsor paid a bunch of money to have their logos on his car and then he quits shortly after it begins so nobody can see his car. Pretty obvious why they dropped him.

Oh he wouldn’t have actually freaked out. He and his team knew exactly what they were doing, especially with regard to what was going on across the country at the time. And they still completely ran with it and milked it for all it was worth. Even got a pony show and parade in his honor out of it for their trouble and audacity. Typical opportunistic narcissism.

I mean, they were paying him thousands of dollars, just like a real race. I think the fact that the sponsor felt shortchanged when it wasn’t treated like a serious race by the guy they were paying full price to is understandable. The culture clash between iRacing and NASCAR at the time was real.

This is one of the most underrated bag fumbles a sponsor has done in NASCAR. They dropped someone who would’ve become one of the sport’s most talked about driver over a video game. Whether you like Bubba or not you can’t deny that since 2020 he’s been one of the most talked about drivers. Blue Emu had a chance to become one of the most talked about sponsors in the sport and instead fizzled out.
That's a dumb way of looking at it, especially considering that it was a mascar sanctioned event.... it would be like working from home and them shutting your computer down after 5 min and them acting confused when you get fired for not doing your work.... he didn't fulfill his contract to them so they dropped him. Simple as that, if you were blue emu paying him that money for advertising and he didn't follow thru, would you keep giving him money, honestly?
I feel like driving 200 mph and playing a game that simulates Nascar are two total different things. No risk factor when your playing a video game. In my opinion you should have shut down Nascar for a lil while. You don't see other sports like UFC or NFL playing xbox for there championship or super bowl. It just doesn't work like that lol.
