Nobody could accuse you of not being genuine mate. I don't know you but, just by watching your videos I would trust you on a job of mine. The fact its upset you so much just proves how sincere you are. Keep up the good work pal 👍🏼

I always used brass screws in bathrooms especially in cisterns, but I used Tap washers instead of clips to hold the cistern in place. Sorry to hear about the customer who didn't pay, it's not the loss of money that gets you, it is when you do your best for them and they do not respect that, that's the hurful part.

Thanks for the support mate, I always try to do an honest job at a fair price, sometimes I get taken advantage of, I would have been more than happy to go back and resolve any issue with the boiler had there been one, if I'm honest I don't think there was ever another issue and the customer just didn't want to pay

Man I charge double and you're a great plumber. Work smart, charge smart and you won't work as hard and stress about it. Then when you do have bad experiences, you're covered because the pay is your compensation. The pay is your appreciation. Them paying you less doesn't make them respect you, it just means people will take advantage more to benefit from you

Thanks for the support mate, I'm happy for the small local jobs to be charged at a lower rate just because I know how tough it can be for people to afford a plumber, some people will always take advantage of this and it is a tough pill to swallow at times but providing a good honest service has always been my aim in life

Thanks for the support Nathan, it sometimes hard to let go but overall, it would probably cost me more in time and stress chasing a small dept than the job was worth. It's better to look forward rather than backwards

For the skill and experience you have you should be charging more. You are underselling yourself. Some customers will always be out to knock you whatever you do. We get them now and then and we usually see the signs funnily enough. When it happens and it isn't for much money I just move on and tell other plumbers around the area to avoid the customer. I find this is better for my mental health than the stress of recovery action.

Sorry to hear you had a customer that did not want to pay. I honestly think you should take them to a small claims court. Your video speak volumes about the quality of your good work. Very few people understand the reality of a small heating/gas/plumbing business. It's hard unglamorous work. We have to go out of our way to solve someone else's problem at the drop of a hat and then chase the appropriate payment/invoice. I now try to make it as clear as possible that a call out fee is applicable for any visit payable by card or cash onsite. The hours I have wasted doing/attending a fault or fault finding, for someone to then take your findings and get someone else to do it using your price as a bargaining tool is very common.
@PlumbLikeTom

I know exactly what you mean mate, running a business is extremely expensive with training, equipment, insurance, the list goes on. Customers don't see any of that, to not be paid for our time is extremely frustrating. I often get asked by customers for a free quote, but you can tell their more just asking for advise or wanting me to spec the job for others to quote. Luckily the majority of my customers are brilliant and this doesn't happen to often, thanks for the support mate 👍

I have been plumbing etc since 86 and I'm genuinely impressed to see someone who knows whats what, shows genuine concern for how things work, look and look out for the next tradesman who will come along in the future and then on top of that real customer service...good on you and thankyou. I completely understand your points about not being payed and this particular situation. Having worked for myself for over 10 years and then knocked it on the head because of the stress (inc not getting payed, amongst other things) remember you are very skilled with a lot of knowledge and providing a spot on service...never forget it bro and don't let people take advantage. You should be charging double that!! Suspicious as f#%k, why wouldn’t the homeowner call the plumber that would be obliged to fix it for free?? You’d be better off with “payment on completion” (same as Pimlico) then if there’s an issue there’s no risk the homeowner would call anyone else! People may take advantage of your kind nature. Not being funny,but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to be a plumber,granted ones who work on gas should charge more, but I know a lot of non gas plumbers charging £40 a hour, that equates to 60k+ a year, a decent diyer can do most plumbing jobs.

You don't charge enough for how highly skilled you are.. you could email him and explain you document all your work with videos and photos. You could explain the head falling off is impossible for them types zone valves unless it was a manufacturer defect and that he could have called you and you would have gone straight out... I know its a small amount and not worth chasing but you could get your point across and just explain that you did everything right and 'if he can't afford to pay' then you could set up a payment plan.. make out that he can't afford to pay and it will be a slight dig and he might pay you just to show you he can afford it lol.... I've had people not pay me for over a year it was £100 bill and I found a solicitor online who sends a letter for £2 and eventually he paid.. I really really get annoyed at none payers because most of us want to do a TOP job! And it really annoys me that I've spent time helping them for nothing when I could have been spending that time with my family! You should go shut there water off and pour postcrete in the stop tap! The way I see it is you wouldnt walk into tescos for a pint of milk and loaf of bread then relise you cant afford it and haggle to staff for a discount, you either have the money or you dont. So why do we get treated like this. Not sure what part of the country your form but your hour rate is way too cheap for a registered gas engineer and oftec person.
