The 80s was a tremendous decade for watching NBA basketball especially on Sunday afternoons on CBS. Boston,Philly,and Milwaukee were loaded with talent for 7 of those 10 years. Atlanta and Detroit were also on the rise in the eastern conference. Good defense and not so much traveling going on all the time. None of this 135-133 scores either. Set plays and physical defense were the norm along with great effort. Miss the good old days.

@threerings1345
@threerings1345 Год назад
People assume Larry Bird always lacked athleticism, but early in Larry's career he ran hard and fast, regularly beating opponents down court for layups and open looks. Unfortunately, as he was entering his prime injuries began to hinder Bird's quickness. He compensated by improving from superior to lethal from the perimeter, and keeping a step ahead through his unmatched basketball IQ.

The thumbnail for this video was not from this game. In the game from the thumbnail, Larry Bird was embarrassing Dr. J. It was something like Bird had 30 points, and Erving had 6. Erving bridged Bird, Larry fell on his back, and Erving walked away without trying to help him up, or even apologize. No one knows what was said, but next thing you know, Erving had Larry in a chokehold, then was throwing two right crosses at his face (while his teammate, I think it was Moses Malone, had Larry in a headlock). It was the most surreal thing I ever saw in the NBA, because Julius Erving was the face of the NBA, and was always a true gentleman on and off the court. It had to be one of his most embarrassing moments on the court. He and Bird have put it behind them, and have never publicly discussed it since.

I didn't know Archibald got hurt with a minute to go. ML Carr made some great plays down the stretch. I was happy to see Archibald go back in, Carr stayed in and Bird was really Amazing. It's Ironic, because Dave Cowens was unbelievable when he played with the Celtics in his days. I love Basketball. I've been following it since I was a Boy. I watched Lew Alcindor win it four years in a row with UCLA. Now I'm hoping the Bruins do it again because of Coach Cronin who was with my Cincinnati Bearcats. What's not to love about the old Great Games with Great players. I moved to Miami in 2006 to see the Heat win it all. That was beautiful. this was back before selfie-ball. quick and decisive. Larry Bird was the best winner, and did it shaming his opponents, rofl.

I was thinking the same thing while watching the video. How many stars make the extra pass like Bird? How many stars can pass the ball like Bird? I'm not saying Bird was the best in any context, but man was he a great player.

IDK...maybe it was just a working man's game back than, wonderful hardass games even in the regular season. Don't watch anymore as it's just not exciting, the nuances of the game aren't appreciated anymore

The league was far tougher in this era! I truly believe this present era couldn’t hang-these players today would wine and cry so much you couldn’t keep the floor dry enough to play. This Celtic team would destroy any of todays teams. Physically tougher as well as mentally tougher!

That goaltending call on Doc blocking Ford. Compare that to LeBron's high above the rim block ( big debate that was definitely goaltending) on AI in 2015 Finals. WOW!!

Bird was an assassin. These punks today can't play.
