All wet belts are from hell, and need to go back there. Ask anyone in the industry with a modicum of intelligence, if running a rubber belt in oil is a good idea, the answer will be a resounding NO!! What were the engineers thinking, or more to the point, what were they smoking.
Unbelievable work as usual. I can’t understand how Ford would both design a belt that would degrade, eventually fail and lunch the engine, whilst at the same time making it so bloody awkward to change. Anyway looks like you got to that one just in time.
Great work, Baz. Thanks for sharing all those tips. I'll get my Fiesta aircon bolt greased up this weekend. Belt is not due, but that will save lots of time when it is 👍👍
Thanks for this one Baz 👍 although similar to others it showed how the various bolts can rust up so when I do the next service and future services on my 2019 ecosport I’m going to grease them air con bolts and WD40 other various bolts to hopefully make it easier for you when I need the wet belts replacing 👍
I had a 2019 Ford eco sport come in last week, turbo under boost fault.turbo failing, pulled out the vacuum pump and checked the filter.Full of cambelt rubber,69000 miles on it ! customer couldn’t afford the major repairs it needed,ie full wet belt change and new turbo ect.Its just madness the crap engineering nowadays! Will keep with my 20year old volvo!
Top content Baz, I’m a bit past self mechanics these days, but I find your videos captivating. Common sense approach, think before you act! I remember many a Sunday afternoon trying to fix my motors ready for work on Monday- then disaster struck!😳🙄😎
Your videos on this were invaluable when i did this job on my daughters car, tough job with only jack stands on the drive, took about 3 days but got it done. The tip with the cardboard was a life saver!
Done my first wet belt on a transit at the start of the week and your trick of using an air chisel to loosen the big nut on the fan worked a treat baz saved any hassle
There's no wonder mechanics are leaving the trade, manufacturers are making the job a nightmare! It's as if they don't want to make automotive repairs easy for some reason, like they want cars off the road perhaps? 🤔
Thanks for making these videos Baz 👍 You honestly make the tasks look easy. Plus you don’t shy away from the camera. Great work. But have you ever worked on a Ford Mondeo mk4 2.2 tdci (Q4BA)? The EGR/Cooler in particular?
i have the air hammer ,but that socket attachment looks good ,i have seen them advertised some time ago ,but not seen in use before.good video as always
The air con bolt is a common failure. Ford has known this for ten years and has made zero effort to fix the problem. I.E. anti seize, grease even custard may help.....
I worked at Rover for 5 years and later Aston Martin for 5 years. We had so many issues building these cars but getting anyone to look into them (never saw an engineer )was impossible. It was all about quantity, build targets etc 😡
The fact that Ford fitted the MK7 Fiesta diesels WITH an undertray and both the pre and post facelift MK7 petrols without also blow my mind. Imagine what all the water, dirt, salt etc does to all the bolts as it's been sprayed all over the engine bay.
Man, I am replacing the wet belt of my focus 1.0 now, and Jesus Christ what a job to do it! I would lile to get the Ford's engineering team to do it and tell them "look the sh*t all of ya did"
Repent to Jesus Christ! Luke 5:32 King James Version 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 13:3 King James Version 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
I repair vehicles (mechanical/electrical) but I also do loads of rust repairs - I have one customer who deals in Landcruisers, lots of 'em. He sends his rust issues to me. Lots of 'em, lol. Same vehicles, "same" issues with rust - however repair times can vary hugely depending on how far the grot has crept. 1cm further than usual can lead to absolute hours of extra work - which then leads to "How does it take so much longer/cost more than the last ones?" conversations.
Fecked off and bought a posher air hammer just there btw - not your Pickler as I am stingy & tight - but a more powerful than the one I use all day one. I'm gonna cheat, bang a 1/2" drive spanner to socket adaptor onto whatever socket needs rattling, rattle that with the hammer & turn the socket with a ratchet spanner.. which will do the same thing only cheapier. I ain't made of money like you Baz, mainly as I'm a good deal thicker. But not too thick to know a good idea when I see one.
Hi Baz, there's also a mesh strainer in the "Oil Pressure Control Solenoid" that can block with wet belt debris. This solenoid is on rear of engine block beside plug where crank timing pin screws in. There's a Dayco training video on RU-vid "Garage Wire" Channel showing this Solenoid being removed to check and clean the mesh strainer.
Great Video - I work for a Ford service dealer and we do a fair few of these “eco boom” wet belts - every single one presents a new challenge I’d love to know where to get one of those Pichler gun sets from, what an amazing tool Did a bit of googling but to no joy Any links / pointers would be an awesome help 😊
I was watching this and laughing at how much you enjoy using the vibro gun, then my wife asked what on earth I was watching when she heard all the noise. When I said it's Baz's vibro gun she wasn't impressed and accused me of watching porn! 😂 Great job as usual, good to see a proper technician at work with pride in the job, trying to make it easier for others to do the job from hell.
learning so much everytime you do one of these wet belts baz. 1 question tho, when you took the vacuum pump off to clean the filter does the engine have to be in the timmed position. i didnt clean mine when i did my belt and would like to now that ive seen this. thanks
Blimey that's alot of work it's must be 2k plus to do I have 2019 same engine it's coming up to 19,000 miles & changed the oil & filter myself 4 times now always putting quality castrol in ( recommended by ford) abit OTT I know but playing safe 😀 Anyone else doing similar 🤔. So much for German made engineering
Great video, Baz. Only one small comment, at 19:44 your voice is almost non-existent. Have you thought of getting a wireless lavaliere mic. They help your sound stay so much more consistent. Thanks for sharing.
Eactly the same issue the other day with an ecoboost sump. Aircon compressor bolts fully seized, ended up cutting them off and welding 17mm's to them off the vehicle. Worked well but not for the weak hearted.
What mileage would you recommend a wet belt change on a Ford transit eco blue engine I’ve heard of some of them snapping well before their 100,000 recommendation
I'm assuming its the 2.0 diesel with the filter above the driveshaft. Fold up a piece of cardboard and use it like a funnel going to whatever you're draining it in to. Saves you covering the driveshaft and sub-frame in oil and spending ages cleaning up the mess. Hope this helps
@@aadil-ahmedshaikh5692 The old Ford 1.8 TDCi has a similar issue (I'm speaking from experience), it's very difficult to avoid the contents of the old filter pouring out all over the driveshaft due to its location and horizontal orientation.
It's scary how the brake vacuum pump fills with the failling cam belt rubber particles a very serious accident ready to happen as in the state's, the worst ford engine design in 40 years, had a vauxhall van 150,000 miles 10 years old no corrosion, one clutch, sold for a bargain price to a transport firm as bought a ford ranger for my bee work & now wished I waited 3 year's for a Toyota as having the oil change every 7000 miles a because someone decided to put a rubber belt in the engine crank case 😂, someone please please bringing out a timing chain conversion for the belts cam,oil pump will never go back too a ford or European engine with the wet belts system again until they bin the design it's going backwards not forward on environmental issues to save using vital earth's resources.
