When Hope Takes on Flesh | John

John opens his Gospel with a declaration that hope has arrived, but, scandalously, it has arrived in human flesh! John roots his claim about Jesus in the Hebrew Scriptures, weaving together the themes of Torah to showcase Jesus as the fulfillment of original Creation and the launch of New Creation.
What ideas from the Bible feel scandalous to you?

The is no modern day bible historian, prophet or teacher of God's word (Word) who speaks more directly to the heart of the Christian faith - who tells the story of Jesus - from Genesis 1 through Revelation 21 - so simply, yet profoundly - and so full of hope, joy and zealous anticipation of "that day!" -- than Reverend Tom Wright :) It's is life-giving and life-sharing!

So good... "john's gospel is all about creation and new creation the creation which is fulfilled in jesus and then the new creation which emerges as he dies to defeat the power of all the hostile anti-god and anti-creation forces *and to launch god's new creation in his own resurrection body*" "if the tabernacle was a small working model of new creation against the day when it would actually happen *jesus in himself is the beginning of that new creation*"

So much to say, once John explodes his Gospel, which is so different from the previous 3 so called "synoptics" which establish the story through the mouths of 2 or 3 witnesses. Matthew proclaims the rightful kingship of the Messiah, "son of David, son of Abraham," and this from verse one of the New Testament. Mark's Gospel is the most simple and things tend to happen "immediately." Luke presents us with the Son of Man, "in every tempted as we are..." but John's Christ is something else on another level, yet the same: the pre-existent Logos, the cosmic Christ, the light than enlightens, even every man, and the first inference that through Him we are set free from the Mosaic law--"truly the law came through Moses, grace and truth through Jesus Christ." Thanks again for Bishop Wright for hewing to a line, lest we build a crookedness into our Church, one that is hard to correct.

New REC/ACNA Anglican here Mr. N. T. Wright. We are enjoying so much of the rich tradition of the church it is overwhelming. Lord willing my wife and I will be confirmed by our Bishop on the 4th day of December. Wife and I were Baptists before so a lot of changes but it’s God’s journey and I’m part of it by his grace. Just recently ran across you and your teachings and I love them. I dabbled in the Messianic faith and learned about the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua in English Jesus as you know. Sir you are filled with God’s grace and gifts and my hope and prayer is that we would imitate you as you are an imitator of Christ our Lord. God bless you sir and your family and may God give you many more years in your young age truly! Amen

In addition to his arguments, Mr. Wright adds that taking flesh also entails humiliating himself before the men present (pitching the Tabernacle). It is the consequence of getting rid of his glory for a few moments, because if one or some saw the face of YHVH, the consequence would be the imminent death of those present. This was not the intention of course. The apostles saw the glory of Jesus the Anointed as he ascended to God the Father. And before the resurrection only three apostles saw him glorified together with Moses and Elijah. Were they privileged? In that aspect, yes. Although those are happy who, without having seen, believe.

Yesterday I was so caught up with the Queen I did not seem ready to engage with the weekly reading, today I am ready! Wow, every time I read your theology or listen to you speak and teach I am caught up with the challenge of living this Christian life. The challenge of living a tabernacled life where God's glory is somehow, through the spirit and our baptism, embodied with in us - me - is overwhelming. I must shamefully admit that I am probably not the best example of a follower of Christ who lives out this covenant within myself - but then none of us really are, are we? So today, I look around at my life, the world we inhabit and simply ask - How am I being called to be God's presence in the here and now? Looking for an answer. Thank you for a beautiful teaching this week.

THE DIFFERENCE 1 John 3:9-10 9 whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. Ezekiel 18:26 26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. Luke 12:45-47 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. Revelation 3:5 5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD. 1 Children Of GOD 2 children of the devil WHICH ONE ARE YOU? As you can see clearly from these scriptures and more than several other scriptures in The Bible, that once saved always saved is false doctrine. We CANNOT die in ANY SIN or any UNFORGIVENESS OF OTHERS. Before we leave this earth, before we die, or before the Lord calls us home, we must confess and forsake ALL SIN. NO SIN enters Heaven. We will ALL be before the Judgment Seat of Christ to give an account of our lives. BEFORE we die or the Lord calls us home, We MUST be without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. We must use God’s Holy Spirit through His Son Jesus and live a life of True Holiness. We through the Grace that God has given us through His Son Jesus Christ through His Holy Spirit must live in HOLINESS without which NO ONE shall see God. All the pastors teaching this once saved always saved doctrine should REPENT for leading all those in their congregations astray. The Word of God says WOE to those pastors who lead my sheep astray. To all those who still believe in this false doctrine should be led of the Holy Spirit and read The Bible for themselves not just listen to their pastors. Amen 🙏

Here's a quick question that jumps into my head - God chose the Jews, before and over Gentiles (non-Jew). Why were the Gentiles left out of God's plan for such a long time period?
@NTWrightOnline
@NTWrightOnline Год назад
Good question, and one perhaps many wonder about. One way of looking at it might be that God chose a people for himself for the world as part of his larger plan or 'project'. The people who were carriers of God's promise were to recall that they were once 'strangers' in Egypt, and thus, also meant to love those who were 'outsiders' as themselves. Yet, it seems again and again that they failed (as we often do) in their vocation to reflect God into the world. What do others think?

Acts 5:1-11 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias heard these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of three hours later, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10 Then she fell down straightaway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
