I'm an Indonesian and what I can say is, Philippines is an amazing country. That's because its people. I went there once for exchange, it was 2 months but felt so fast because I really felt like home. The people are sooo welcoming. They don't need no level. The younger, the Elder, they respect each other equally. Oops, not just respect, they LOVE everyone and treat everyone the best they can.. i love filipino huhu

In the Philippines, if you live alone and no one to talk to, you can go to a store and buy a snack or anything or maybe go to a salon then start to talk to someone and you will notice that you will be exchanging thoughts for hours already. You will not be lonely in the Philippines even if you are alone.

although i am from the US and have only been to the philippines three times so far in my 24 yrs, i agree with all the points but esp the first one! a vivid memory of mine is actually of my mom (who is filipino) and we were in a mall here in america and a lady (who is a complete stranger) comes up to my mom because she heard her accent while talking to me, and we learn she just moved here from the philippines and had no friends, and by the end of their impromptu convo in the mall they already had plans to hang out and talked as if they knew each other for years, and have been friends ever since (this was probably around 5 or 6 years ago)

Transportation in the PH is really good, only traffic that sucks. But, I'd rather endure the traffic jam than paying so much for transportation. In the PH you can save a lot for transpo expenses because there's jeepny, multicab, single motor, sidecar, etc. In Hong Kong & Malaysia there's only bus, taxi, grab. Everyday we go to work by grab with a minimum fare per day of 150 pesos, bus stops is far from home. So if you are really frugal you have to walk at least 1km to go to bus stops or walk farther to your job site. At least in the PH if your house & workplace is only 2km away you can use jeepny, in here you really need to take grab. MRT/LRT here in other country also get congested during rash hour, people just endure it, but Filipinos always complain about it.
@rock5smnc

@@1dharries232 yeah, truly makes sense. Just realized it. About the mrt/lrt, maybe the complaints are coming from how others see japan/korea's subway progress..?

I'm willing to pay a little extra as long as we can fix the traffic problem though. I commute daily 3hrs to and 3hrs from work for a total of 6hrs everyday. One of the problems here is that there are no proper pick up and drop off points. I hope we can be organized like Korea, just as Mr. Bulbul said.

Maybe because of diversity. Our country have a lot of dialects and languages. I myself for example is not that effective and confident in Tagalog. Second, is the influence. There are parts of the country where there are heavy traces of foreign influences. Take Cordillera for example, it is heavily influenced by West American culture. Traces of Spanish influence can be also seen in the language called Chavacano. Maybe thats why.

Both India and the Philippines had the same language issues while creating their countries' constitutions - 1) many languages, 2) many people who would be angered if a native language they did not speak was made the official language, 3) a history of wealthy people and the government using English. Both India and the Philippines decided on nearly identical solutions - English would be made the language of the government until the government could find a better solution. Both India and the Philippines have not yet found better solutions and likely will keep using English as it is a very useful tool in today's interconnected world. The future of the world is everybody speaking their own native language and also speaking English as a second language.

This is quite refreshing to see an “honest point of view” about the differences of both cultures. Due to the Philippines’ economic struggles, they are certainly an underrated country. Many Koreans in Korea are quite ignorant to the rest of the world with very little understanding of their own social issues that’s actually quite toxic. A good friend of mine who is Korean, born and raised in Korea became a nurse in the US once said that when she returns to Korea, she sadly feels more at “home” in the US. This speaks in volumes. I think that Koreans(or anyone else for that matter) are in no position to degrade other races, despite of their socioeconomic status. We’re ALL immigrants of the world.

When you're narrating the life in Korea back in the old days I can't help but think the fortunes of our country have reversed. After WW2 the Philippines became prosperous along side Japan, on the other hand Korea after WW2 was devastated by civil war, poverty, etc. - we're very much ahead of you Koreans. But by the 70s and 80s we're practically at the same level but the difference is Korea is starting to rise and the Philippines is starting to slip. By the 90s S. Korea managed to become an economic powerhouse in Asia while we continued to slide down, surpassed even by our neighbors Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

To be fair, the Philippines was also devastated after WW2. Almost all the cities were destroyed, which required rebuilding everything. Manila, especially, went from being a beautiful city that was often compared to Paris with tons of historic buildings, to shanty towns and concrete box buildings overnight. We may have had a brief period of prosperity in the 60s, but we lost a lot of our culture when Japan destroyed our historical architecture. It's the reason why our cities today lack "identity", almost all the colonial-era architecture are gone. Then Marcos came, and the cronies sucked up everything good in the country, instituting a system of corruption and blind nationalism that still pervades today.

I wont mind seeing top 10 things I dont like in the Philippines. Why? That's a different person's perspective and a point of reference to improve. I have to agree with Mr. Bulbul's perspective about transportation. With English proficiency, the country's level has gone down, but still better than most SEA countries. Job opportunities? I worked as a call center agent with a high salary rate compared to newbies, but it's not easy to find a good paying company that wont enslave you. For how bad the economic situation is, that high salary is nothing. Food prices have gone up, transportation is "loco." We slowly forget the fact that farmers and fishermen feed us, and this capitalism is slowly killing this beautiful country. 😑 sorry, this feels like a rant. 😂
