When Is It Time For A New Battery In Your BMW ??? 

It’s June 2024 and I’ve just resolved my battery issues on my 2016 BMW Z4 E89. The age of the battery is stamped on the negative terminal. My Z4 had the original factory fitted battery and was about 8 years old. I suggest you buy the AGM battery. I bought mine from BMW dealer at a cost of £228 Although the battery is easy to fit, it will need to be registered. This requires a specialist machine. I used a garage to install and register at a cost of £40 which was well worth it because they cleared lots of faults associated with the flat battery. BMW wanted a crazy price to do this work. I have now bought a Topdon JS3000 Jump Starter to deal with future battery issues. I carry it at all times. I go several days without using my car so I now trickle charge my battery. I bought a CTEK charger. Remember - if you don’t use your car on a regular basis, then the battery will go flat.

Determining battery state of charge using a digital voltmeter, 12.6 volts = 100% charged battery, 12.4 volts = 75% charge, 12.2 volts = 25%, 11.9 = dead battery. The battery must be quiesced for at least 4 hours before measuring voltage

I just changed one in an x6....Jan 07 on battery...so 12 yrs old....can't complain. My advice pay the extra for a good battery.

Same happened to me with my 2000 540i wagon. Dead battery after 8 months of my purchase. Cost me $130 from Battery R Us. I wished Walmart had my battery.

These cars ship from the factory with AGM batteries because AGM batteries have a very low self discharge rate and they have twice the cold cranking amps compared to the wet lead acid battery of the same size, spend the little extra money and get the AGM you will be happy you did, they last 7 to 8 years easily.

Bought a used ‘08 528i a year ago off some guy that lives far from me and the car is not starting. Have to jump start it every time as of recent. It has an original BMW battery in it. I called the BMW he got it from and they said it’s the original one from ‘08. That’s a pretty good life! 11 years. Now going to get a new one from Walmart. $123 and free install. Not bad!

I bought 2 of the big BMW batteries one for my son's girlfriends 98 540i and the other for a 99 740il...after 6 months the 740il battery was gone and BiMart here in Oregon replaced it....now 6 months later...the other one is toast. 99.00 each...I'll be headed to check out WallyWorld !

my bmw battery voltage is like at 11.7 in morning then when warmed up the car and turn it off voltage jumps down to 12.20. i have a e36 but can you tell me the name for the 50$ battery or a link to it because the only battery i found their matching the size of my battery was like 117

I have a F82 2015 BMW M4 that uses a lithium ion battery. Every time I start the car I get “increased battery discharge” I contacted my local BMW dealer and some tuner shops and they all tried to charge me $1900+ for the new lithium ion battery. That is just crazy stupid... I am wondering if I can put in a normal battery that matches all the specs to my oem battery in the car. Please help me out
